Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 84: November 9, 1922 President Grant said it was a source of great satisfaction to him to see such a large attendance. He said he had no recollection of any opening of conference on a week day when some of those attending had to stand. He was grateful to see so many present, hoped all would be fed on the bread of life, and that whatever he said would be for the good of himself and the congregation. When the Opening prayer was made, he said, and a supplication went up to God that law and order might be upheld, he knew what the keynote should be. President Grant then read a selection from the Doctrine and Covenants to the effect that laws and rulers should be upheld and order maintained. That, he said, meant that men should be able to labor without running the risk of being killed by someone who objects to their doing such work. The President said he was convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is the duty of every Latter-day Saint to obey the law, to uphold the law and sustain the law. It is the duty of every man and woman in the Church to uphold the laws. This includes the prohibition law and the cigarette law. President Grant said that only those men who will agree to support the cigarette law and keep it on the statute books should be supported by the Latter-day Saints. The founder of this Church met the Father and the Son face to face, and his followers have been proclaiming that fact to the world since, said the President. He then read an account of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum; how the Prophet declared he was going like a lamb to the slaughter. The speaker said his mother had told him that a more God-fearing man than Hyrum Smith never lived. He declared he believes that Joseph and Hyrum are working on the other side for the advancement of the plan of salvation as they worked here, and that they have attained the highest degree of exaltation. Men can conspire and can work against the Church of God as established upon the earth, the speaker said, but no one can find a man since Jesus Christ who has done more for the salvation of mankind than Joseph Smith. Hundreds of thousands of persons, he said, have a testimony of the truth of this fact, and all the lies in the world cannot stop this work. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: April 8, 1909 It is the same with the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Latter-day Saints. It is the gospel of the Son of God, revealed anew in this last dispensation, that has made the name of that man immortal, and the saints the people that they are. Without it, in all proba bility the name of Joseph Smith would not have been known out side the locality in which he resided. Scarcely a day passes with out adding lustre to the name of the latter-day prophet, and as the years go by it will become more and more illustrious. It was the same with President Brigham Young. It was Mormonism, or the gospel of Jesus Christ, which made him the great and mighty man that he was. The-same may be said of all the succeeding presidents of the Church and also of the Latter-day Saints as a whole. In their lives the power of the gospel has been plainly made manifest. What a change the gospel of Christ has Wrought in the lives of tens of thousands of men and women in these latter days; through obedience to its holy principles they have been literally regenerated, born again, made new creatures in Christ Jesus, so that they are able to say with Paul, we are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation. How could we feel ashamed of that which has done so much for us? Well might the Savior say, He that is ashamed of me before men of him will I be ashamed before my Father and before the angels. What have we to be ashamed of, brethren and sisters? Nothing under the sun. On the contrary, we have much to -be proud of. IS the great revelation which the Father and the Son have given of themselves in this dispensation something, to be ashamed of? Verily, no. Think of the state of ignorance from which that glorious manifestation has delivered hundreds of thousands of the human family. What erroneous and absurd ideas we entertained concerning our Father in heaven before the glad tidings of that new revelation reached us. Before, we worshiped we knew not what; now we worship God intelligently, in Spirit and in truth. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 73 February 9 1911 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 73 February 9 1911 Classic Reprint written by Rudger Clawson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 73: February 9, 1911 Redeemer, His Son Jesus Christ. So there is but one plan of redemption and salvation for the human family. That being so, in the justice of God, who is the very embodiment of that eternal principle, all His children must, at some time and in some place, become acquainted with that gospel, learn what it is and have the opportunity of receiving it and obeying it, or of rejecting it if they will - for the principle of free agency 'is an eternal and abiding principle. It exists in all intelligent beings, the sons and the daughters of the great God who has given them that privilege to choose light or darkness, truth or error, good or evil, to take which course they prefer. Although there are, of course, many influences surrounding them, either for good or for evil, to which they may yield themselves, and to which they may become subject, yet in them, inherent, God-given, God-planted, is the principle of free agency, the power to receive or to reject the truth; to live accord ing to light, or to walk in darkness. So, at some period in the history of all the sons and daughters of Adam's race, there must come a time when they can hear that which God wants them to do, and take their choice. Whether they be in the body or out of the body, they are the same persons; people are not changed, simply because they shuffle of this mortal coil. They are the same persons as they were before they came into the body, and will be the same when they pass out of the body. Every indi vidual soul Will preserve its own identity, worlds without end. So, I say, there is a grand and glorious work to be performed, and I do not expect to cease my exertions and labors when the time comes for me to depart hence. I shall go, I presume, as I have done ever since I have been in the Church, where I am sent, and try to do the work allotted to me, and to do it with my might, to put my powers and energies into it, and to perform such duties as are incumbent upon me to the extent of my abilities. How wearily all the day The words unkind would trouble my mind That I said when you went away, I had been more careful, darling. Nor given you needless pain; But--we vex our own with look and tone We might never take hack again. For though in the quiet evening You may give me the kiss of peace, Yet it well might he that never for me The pain of the heart should cease! How many go forth in the morning Who never come home at night, And hearts have been broken for harsh words spoken That sorrow can ne'er set right. We have careful thought for the stranger, And smiles for the sometime guest, But oft for our own the bitter tone, Though we love our own the best. Ah, lip with the curve impatient. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 94: September 8, 1932 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege; let them worship how, where, or what they many. Had any progress been made? Do you perceive advancement there in the working out of the divine purpose? This latter declaration was made by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Thus solemn affirmation was made of the inherent right of every man to worship as he will, or, by implication, to abstain from worshiping at all if he will - and can. There are substantial grounds for questioning man's ability to become wholly devoid of the impelling spirit of worship, at least ac knowledging - in love or in fear - some supreme power or Deity. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 95: November 9, 1933 Precedent, a century Old, that found its beginning in a revela tion from God to the Prophet Joseph Smith at the organization Of the Church, has made conferences an established institution in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The great general semi-annual gatherings, and the mission and district gatherings as well, are as mileposts in the glorious journey of Church achievement and growth in this dispensation. Believers gather to receive instruction from their leaders, to renew Old friendships, to refresh their loyalty, to enlarge their under standing, to grow in the faith - and to thrill to the strength of fellowship that permeates the assembled saints, united by the same fraternal bond. Indeed, the secret of the great internal strength Of the Church lies, in part, in the great unifying power of such gatherings.
