Book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 91

Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 91 written by John A. Widtsoe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: November 14, 1929 A thoughtful study of these words reveals these great truths: First, that it is possible that knowledge not previously possessed by man may come from God our Father to His children who are here upon earth. It is probably true that Peter himself did not under stand the direct source from which the impulse that prompted his answer had come, but this scripture makes it plain that it came from God our Father, who spoke to him through the influence, or whisperings of the Holy Ghost. Another important truth which this scripture reveals is that the means of communication between 01117 Father who is in heaven and His children who are here upon earth, is the Holy Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, communicated to us through the precious gift of revelation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to be built upon this principle of revelation. Another very important thing which is definitely implied by these words spoken by the Redeemer of the world is that the keys which were bestowed upon Peter, when in the possession of any other man, as they were in the possession of Peter, confer upon him the authority to bind upon earth and it shall be bound in heaven to loose upon earth and it shall be loosed in heaven. Questions which are of vital importance, and in which this principle or doctrine of revelation is directly involved, have come to the Church from the time of its organization until the present. They are constantly being introduced and discussed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 101 written by Hugh B. Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-20 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 101: October 19, 1939 Now of course we know that some of our work here is related to the work there. The statement Jesus made, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God, (john 3: 5) expressed a truth that applies to all who enter the celestial kingdom. Baptism is essential to salvation. Even Jesus was baptized to_ fulfil all righteous ness. This being true, not a soul can enter into the kingdom of God unless he or she is a true believer in Jesus Christ, and has been born of the water and of the Spirit. But water is material, earthly substance. Immersion in it is an earthly ordinance and must be done here. Hence the plan provides for the baptism of the dead, vicariously administered - work now going on vigorously in all Latter-day Saint temples. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 75 written by Rudger Clawson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-20 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 75: May 22, 1913 Paul's whole life 18 a w01 thy example to keep in mind. It will add coals to the fire of faith already burning within us. It will add impetus to our zeal and determination to press on. Courage. Is a boon to every man. Courage carries us through storms of persecution and brings us out triumphant; or, as one writer puts it, Courage is naked Right put through the fire and brought out uncracked and unbroken. Christ was a glorious example of courage. Coming into an apostate world He meekly presents Himself as the Messiah - the Son of God. Nothing more blasphemous in the ears of the Jews could have been uttered, yet it was a solemn truth. He traveled about in humility and self-abasement, teaching doctrines appar ently contrary to the law of Moses, facing persecution on every hand, renouncing the pious Scribes and Pharisees, and calling sinners unto repentance. He knew that all this was contrary. To Jewish ideas; but He had come to revise those ideas. One of the crowning events of His earthly life was the beautiful example He set for us in the Garden of Gethsemane. In the intense affliction of His soul, He sought courage from God. He taught us the in fallible source from which we can draw comfort and courage when our hours of trial and despondency appear. Book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 84

Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 84 written by Orson F. Whitney and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-21 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 84: November 9, 1922 President Grant said it was a source of great satisfaction to him to see such a large attendance. He said he had no recollection of any opening of conference on a week day when some of those attending had to stand. He was grateful to see so many present, hoped all would be fed on the bread of life, and that whatever he said would be for the good of himself and the congregation. When the Opening prayer was made, he said, and a supplication went up to God that law and order might be upheld, he knew what the keynote should be. President Grant then read a selection from the Doctrine and Covenants to the effect that laws and rulers should be upheld and order maintained. That, he said, meant that men should be able to labor without running the risk of being killed by someone who objects to their doing such work. The President said he was convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is the duty of every Latter-day Saint to obey the law, to uphold the law and sustain the law. It is the duty of every man and woman in the Church to uphold the laws. This includes the prohibition law and the cigarette law. President Grant said that only those men who will agree to support the cigarette law and keep it on the statute books should be supported by the Latter-day Saints. The founder of this Church met the Father and the Son face to face, and his followers have been proclaiming that fact to the world since, said the President. He then read an account of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum; how the Prophet declared he was going like a lamb to the slaughter. The speaker said his mother had told him that a more God-fearing man than Hyrum Smith never lived. He declared he believes that Joseph and Hyrum are working on the other side for the advancement of the plan of salvation as they worked here, and that they have attained the highest degree of exaltation. Men can conspire and can work against the Church of God as established upon the earth, the speaker said, but no one can find a man since Jesus Christ who has done more for the salvation of mankind than Joseph Smith. Hundreds of thousands of persons, he said, have a testimony of the truth of this fact, and all the lies in the world cannot stop this work. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 69: May 30, 1907 I desire to impress this thought upon your minds, for I want you to understand that this is the meaning intended to be conveyed by the words, entering into the rest of God. Let me assure you that that man who is not thoroughly established in the doctrine of Christ, who has not yielded his whole soul unto the Lord, and to the Gospel He has taught to the world, has not yet entered into that rest. He is still at sea, so to speak, wandering, unstable, lacking firmness, lacking the faith that cannot be moved, ready to be overtaken by the cunning and craftiness of him who lies in wait to deceive and mislead into error and darkness. While he that has received the testimony of Jesus Christ in his heart, he that has yielded his all to the kingdom of God and to the will of the Father, is so established. His heart is fixed; his mind is made up; doubts have been dispelled; fears have all been removed; he knows in whom to trust; he is thoroughly established in his purposes and in his determination that, as for him and his house he will serve God, keep His commandments and walk, as far as it is possible for human creatures to walk, in purity of life, in honor, fidelity, and uprightness before the Lord. I thank my God that this spirit and feeling of unrest has been removed from my thoughts and mind with reference to the work in which we are engaged; and that the Lord has given me assur ance that is beyond all other things in relation to this matter. I rejoice in the Gospel; I rejoice in the testimony of the Spirit of God in my heart; I rejoice in the testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith; I rejoice in every principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we have become acquainted with, so far as my knowledge goes. I cannot ask for, I do not want anything better than the principles of life and salvation revealed in this great plan of re demption restored to the earth in the latter days. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 67: September 14, 1905 And in their triumph die; like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, consume: the sweetest honey Is loathsome in his own deliciousness, And in the taste confounds the appetite Therefore, love moderately; long love doth so Too swift arrives as tardy as-too slow. Where connubial differences occur, each Of the interested parties is likely to think the trouble lies wholly with the other and does not consider that in all probability the other has equally as much cause for complaint. Love that is blind before marriage has a remarkably keen vision afterward. If people contemplating such a union would learn to look at each other in their true light there would not be such a waste of affection before marriage nor such a famine for it later on. The spirit of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to be moderate in all things. N 0 one who properly understands the principles which the Savior taught can be an extremist. Such a one will not be too bold nor too retiring; not too violent in his love-making before the wedding nor too forgetful of his life's partner afterward. The Gospel, being the perfect law, is destined to make perfect people - people who will do everything exactly right. On the other hand.
