Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: November 14, 1929 A thoughtful study of these words reveals these great truths: First, that it is possible that knowledge not previously possessed by man may come from God our Father to His children who are here upon earth. It is probably true that Peter himself did not under stand the direct source from which the impulse that prompted his answer had come, but this scripture makes it plain that it came from God our Father, who spoke to him through the influence, or whisperings of the Holy Ghost. Another important truth which this scripture reveals is that the means of communication between 01117 Father who is in heaven and His children who are here upon earth, is the Holy Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, communicated to us through the precious gift of revelation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to be built upon this principle of revelation. Another very important thing which is definitely implied by these words spoken by the Redeemer of the world is that the keys which were bestowed upon Peter, when in the possession of any other man, as they were in the possession of Peter, confer upon him the authority to bind upon earth and it shall be bound in heaven to loose upon earth and it shall be loosed in heaven. Questions which are of vital importance, and in which this principle or doctrine of revelation is directly involved, have come to the Church from the time of its organization until the present. They are constantly being introduced and discussed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: December 12, 1929 I would like to say to the mothers and fathers of boys and girls who are embarking upon the study of music, that there is nothing in the decent practice of the profession of music which will in any way interfere with a man's or a woman's becoming a con sistent Latter-day Saint and living a life that is acceptable to the Lord in the service of the Church, and I stand before you as a witness of this fact. So I say, I consider this call a tribute to my profession, and I believe it will be wholesome in its effect upon the Church. I am not so modest as to think that my going abroad as one of the senior musicians of the Church, but in the capacity of mission president, will not have its good effect. I can thus testify by my life and conduct that it is possible for a man to achieve renown, not only locally, but nationally and internationally - that it is possible for a man to represent the artistic ideals of this people and still live the life of a Latter-day Saint acceptable to the quorums and the councils admitting him to the house of God. My sincere desire and my one and constant effort will be to con tinne this type of living while I am away from you. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: July 4, 1929 The Apostle here mentions some of the officers necessary to the administration Of Church affairs, and then passes to a partial summary of the gifts of the Spirit as promised by the Christ and as actually present in the Church through the ministrations of the holy Priesthood. The obvious implication carried by Paul's question is that of a negative reply - no, not all members of the Church are Apostles, or prophets, or teachers not all are workers of miracles; true, some are endowed with the gift of healing, others with that of speaking in tongues, while yet others are inspired to interpret such ton gues - but not all possess all the gifts. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: July 25, 1929 No one can know God in the sense that Herbert Spencer sought to know Him, until he knows as much as God knows. But any pure-hearted, devout soul can obtain the simple, practical knowl edge of God that the Master speaks of as a prerequisite to eternal life. Indeed this intimate knowledge of God is the very foundation of morality, spirituality and religion. A man's idea of God colours all his thinking. Itis the impelling motive for his sublimest struggles. It is the very warp and woof of his noblest idealism. But what is God He is eternal energy, Herbert Spencer replies. Spencer's idea may be said to be a scientist's conception of the Deity. To the scientist God is the indwelling, immanent creative life of the universe. This definition is true. God is creative energy. But He is also something more than cosmic energy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: September 12, 1929 General Summary. Civilization has made it too easy to get wrong foods of all kinds, and difficult to get the foods we ought to eat. Natural foodstuffs form but a small part of the present day diet, because they have for convenience been replaced by less perishable foods. As we walk down any street of shops we are continually being tempted by displays of groceries, sweets and cakes. Whole shop fronts are dressed artistically with the foods we should not eat. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 96 written by Joseph F. Merrill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 96: January 11, 1934 It is obvious that these changed conditions should have little, if any, effect upon the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its members have always stood for temper ance, they still stand for temperance, and should unitedly use their influence for the enactment of rational laws which will hold the liquor traffic in proper restraint, that we may never return to the golden age of the bootlegger, or the intolerable conditions which preceded him. Without reserve we endorse the attitude of the President of the United States when he says: To take the life of a person without due process of law is murder. It has always been, and still continues to be a fundamental doctrine of the Church that: The murderer has not eternal life abiding in him. Notwithstanding the vexatious delays of the law, the 11n certainty of the verdict to be pronounced by judge or jury, by which violators of the law who are obviously guilty are too frequently acquitted and turned loose 011 the community, to again kill, kidnap, or rob, we admonish members of the Church to refrain from participation in acts of lawlessness, and to advise others to refrain from all association with mobs.
