Civilization has made it too easy to get wrong foods of all kinds, and difficult to get the foods we ought to eat. Natural foodstuffs form but a small part of the present day diet, because they have for convenience been replaced by less perishable foods. As we walk down any street of shops we are continually being tempted by displays of groceries, sweets and cakes. Whole shop fronts are dressed artistically with the foods we should not eat. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 91 written by John A. Widtsoe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 91: November 14, 1929 A thoughtful study of these words reveals these great truths: First, that it is possible that knowledge not previously possessed by man may come from God our Father to His children who are here upon earth. It is probably true that Peter himself did not under stand the direct source from which the impulse that prompted his answer had come, but this scripture makes it plain that it came from God our Father, who spoke to him through the influence, or whisperings of the Holy Ghost. Another important truth which this scripture reveals is that the means of communication between 01117 Father who is in heaven and His children who are here upon earth, is the Holy Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, communicated to us through the precious gift of revelation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to be built upon this principle of revelation. Another very important thing which is definitely implied by these words spoken by the Redeemer of the world is that the keys which were bestowed upon Peter, when in the possession of any other man, as they were in the possession of Peter, confer upon him the authority to bind upon earth and it shall be bound in heaven to loose upon earth and it shall be loosed in heaven. Questions which are of vital importance, and in which this principle or doctrine of revelation is directly involved, have come to the Church from the time of its organization until the present. They are constantly being introduced and discussed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 64: December 4, 1902 His will with respect to our actions, and His purposes with respect to our end. Can it be possible that theology embraces so much and a great part of the Christian world set forth as essential to salvation only a mere passive belief in the Lord Jesus? They are schooled from their infancy to the grave; and, if one were to im portune them in the last hours of their mortal probation for light and know ledge in regard to the plan of salvation, all the information one could obtain is, after so long a schooling, believe. If asked for something more specific, they would reply in the Mystery of the Trinity. One is led to say with Isaiah the prophet: From the uttermost part of the' earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! What can be the cause of this leanness? The lack of divine knowledge to the extent that they will grasp a small fraction of a principle and contend they have the entire plan. Let the word of God explain. Be astonished, 0 ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water (j er. 2: 12, Hence ye worship ye know not what, but the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
