This book was released on 2018-01-21 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 68: March 15, 1906 Let me say to our young men who are here studying different branches of learning: Hunt up your friends; associate with your brethren and sisters. DO not pull away from them; do not keep yourselves aloof from them. GO to their meetings. Go to the presiding authorities and talk with them. Say to them, Here I am. If you can use me for any good, do so. If I have talent and ability to do anything you want me to do to roll on the work of the Lord and to convince the honest in heart of the truth we have received, here I am, ready to be used for the accomplishment of God's purposes whenever it is possible for me to get away from my studies. Now, boys, do this. Remem ber the Old saying, that it is not all of life to live; nor is it all of death to die. There is something more in life than the mere living - eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die. Men will be held accountable before the great Judge Of the quick and the dead for the deeds done in the flesh. You cannot avoid that. You are not here by chance. You came here by the will of God, according to His design, to fulfil His purposes; and you came here without Seeking it yourself, so far as this world is concerned. You are entities; you have living souls within you; and you will be raised' from the dead just as sure as Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. As sure as by Adam you die. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 68: January 4, 1906 One striking evidence of the faith of the Saints is their fidelity in the pay ment of tithes, in their offerings for the poor, in the erection of substantial and elegant houses of worship, in the maintenance of missions, and the sup port given generally to all measures for the spread of the work of the Lord. Our people are gradually following the advice given to get out of debt. It is confidently hoped that the Church itself will, before long, be free from the bonded indebtedness which has been a burden upon it for some time. It will be glad tidings to us all, if by the next Christmas day we can declare, truth fully, that we owe no man anything, but to love one another. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 68: July 19, 1906 On the fact of the inspiration of the prophets and apostles of the Lord, the early fathers were unanimous, and they quoted copiously from their writings in support of their own teachings. But on the question of how God inspired them, they were not clear, and perhaps that is one reason why some of those excellent men fell into the absurd error of regarding the verses of the pagan sibyls as also divinely inspired. Though these sibyls were no better than our gipsy fortune tellers, Justin, Clement of Alexandria, Athenagoras, Theophilus of Antioch, Origin, Tertullian, and even Augustine, quote them so earnestly that the early Christians were derisively called sibyllists. Had they had a clearer appreciation of the nature of divine inspiration, they would perhaps not have fallen in this peculiar error. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 68: April 5, 1906 This week we present on our front page a picture of the conference house at Christiania, Norway. This house is of more than usual interest, as it is the first building of its kind which the Church owned in the European mission, and for many years the only one. The first building was erected in 1870-1. It was a three story structure, containing basement rooms, apartments to let on the first and second floors, and a large and commodious hall for meeting purposes on the third. There were also living rooms for the Elders on this floor. The building served the large and prosperous Christiania branch for about thirty years, when because of the sinking of some of the walls, it was thought best to tear it down and erect a new building. This new structure was dedicated on the 24th of July, 1903, by President Francis M. Lyman. At the services there were about one hundred and forty-five Elders from various parts of the European mission, and a most glorious time was had. Our cut represents this new building. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 66: November 10, 1904 One of the essentials, the leading essential, is the proper appreciation of the doctrines of the Gospel of J esus Christ. There is that which will bring life, and joy, and happiness forever. You should not esteem it lightly, nor deny its messengers a hearing. They stand ready at your doors to teach it you, freely and without cost. Despise them not, nor spurn their message. Though its adoption may bring you some annoyance, in the final review of your life it will act as a well of living water springing up unto everlasting life. You may think that the Latter-day Saints have not a message worth your while; you have more important things. I tell you that to fail to hear them, to avoid or refuse entertaining them, and to neglect to listen to and obey the message which they bear, is precious opportunity lost, which, one day, in the final, the home review of the experiences of your life, will bring you sorrow and regret. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 67 written by Herber J. Grant and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 67: November 23, 1905 Some who have been asked if willing to perform a mission have suggested that their call be postponed for a certain length of time in order to become better prepared. A number of such missionaries have been heard to admit that it would have been better for them if they had accepted the call at once; and some have, after asking for an extension of time, ' changed their minds and reported themselves ready to go without availing themselves of the time given for preparation, finding that the longer they remained the further they were from being ready. The late Apostle Parley P. Pratt, in his Autobiography, relates that upon one occasion he hesitated before starting upon a mission that had been as signed him. He was in debt, and was building a house, and desired to finish it before leaving. Before it was finished the house took fire and was burned. Elder Pratt then decided at once that he was ready to fulfill his mission. He looked upon his misfortune as a rebuke for not responding when first called. Upon deciding to go, his friends came to his assistance, his debts were can celled, and thus his way was made clear to perform his duty.
