Book The Lateral Response of Airplanes to Random Atmospheric Turbulence

Download or read book The Lateral Response of Airplanes to Random Atmospheric Turbulence written by John Marshall Eggleston and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: The report is separated into two parts. In the first part the theoretical basis for calculating the lateral motions of an airplane flying through continuous random atmospheric turbulence is presented. The lateral motions are derived in terms of (1) the transfer functions relating the motion in the various degrees of freedom to the yawing moment, rolling moment, and side force, (2) the statistical forces and moments at the center of gravity due to gust velocities acting on the lifting surfaces of the airplane, and (3) the power spectra of the three orthogonal components of gust velocity acting on the airplane along the flight path. The method takes into account the random variations of gust velocity across the span and along the fuselage. Solutions are given in the form of equations relating the power spectra of the angular motions of the airplane to the power spectra of the gust velocities.

Book Methods for Obtaining Desired Helicopter Stability Characteristics and Procedures for Stability Predictions

Download or read book Methods for Obtaining Desired Helicopter Stability Characteristics and Procedures for Stability Predictions written by F. B. Gustafson and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part 1 of this report presents a brief review of methods available to the helicopter designer for obtaining desired stability characteristics by modifications to the airframe design. The discussion is based on modifications made during the establishment of flying-qualities criteria and includes sample results of theoretical studies of additional methods. The conclusion is reached that it is now feasible to utilize combinations of methods whereby stability-parameter values are realized which in turn provide the desired stability characteristics. Part 2 reviews some of the methods of predicting rotor stability derivatives. The procedures by which these rotor derivatives are employed to estimate helicopter stability characteristics have been summarized.

Book Matrix Method for Obtaining Spanwise Moments and Deflections of Torsionally Rigid Rotor Blades with Arbitrary Loadings

Download or read book Matrix Method for Obtaining Spanwise Moments and Deflections of Torsionally Rigid Rotor Blades with Arbitrary Loadings written by Alton P. Mayo and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A matrix solution for the spanwise bending moments and deflections of a torsionally rigid rotor blade subjected to an arbitrary loading is presented. The method includes the cantilever, teetering, and hinged blades in hovering and in steady forward flight. The method is comparatively short, involves only standard matrix procedures, and does not require that the mode shapes or natural frequencies be known.

Book Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters

Download or read book Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters written by Edward Seckel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability and Control of Airplanes and Helicopters deals with aircraft flying qualities that determine the stability and control of airplanes and helicopters. It includes problems based on real aircraft, selected to represent the gamut from simple to complicated, and from conventional utility designs to futuristic research types. Many of these problems involve comparison of theory and experiment to demonstrate their mutual relationship. Comprised of 25 chapters, this book begins with a discussion on the aerodynamics of the component parts related to the lift and moment characteristics of an airplane, including wings and associated accessories; bodies such as fuselages, nacelles, and tip tanks; and control surfaces. The reader is then introduced to some mathematical techniques for linear differential equations; steady flight at different speeds; and stick force and control-free stability. Subsequent chapters focus on flaps and high-lift devices; power and compressibility effects; and the manner in which the aircraft responds to the application of control. Aeroelasticity and longitudinal equations of motion are also examined. This monograph is intended for undergraduate and graduate students taking modern engineering courses.

Book A Method for Estimating Some Longitudinal and Lateral Rigid body Responses of Airplanes to Continuous Atmospheric Turbulence

Download or read book A Method for Estimating Some Longitudinal and Lateral Rigid body Responses of Airplanes to Continuous Atmospheric Turbulence written by Ellwood L. Peele and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented for estimating some lateral and longitudinal rigid-body responses of airplanes to random atmospheric turbulence. Estimates of center-of-gravity load factors and motion responses can be made simply and easily through the use of parametric charts. Sample calculations are included to illustrate the method.
