Book excerpt: The Language of Creation is a commentary on the primeval stories from the book of Genesis. It is often difficult to recognize the spiritual wisdom contained in these narratives because the current scientific worldview is deeply rooted in materialism. Therefore, instead of looking at these stories through the lens of modern academic disciplines, such as sociology, psychology, or the physical sciences, this commentary attempts to interpret the Bible from its own cosmological perspective.By contemplating the ancient biblical model of the universe, The Language of Creation demonstrates why these stories are foundational to western science and civilization. It rediscovers the archaic cosmic patterns of heaven, earth, time, and space, and sees them repeated at different levels of reality. These fractal-like structures are first encountered in the narrative of creation and then in the stories of the Garden of Eden, Cain and Abel, and the flood. The same patterns are also revealed in the visions of Ezekiel, the book of Daniel, and the miracles of Moses. The final result of this contemplation is a vision of the cosmos centered on the role of human consciousness in creation.

Book Language Creation and Language Change

Download or read book Language Creation and Language Change written by Michel DeGraff and published by MIT Press (MA). This book was released on 1999 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on creolization, language change, and language acquisition has been converging toward a triangulation of the constraints along which grammatical systems develop within individual speakers--and (viewed externally) across generations of speakers. The originality of this volume is in its comparison of various sorts of language development from a number of linguistic-theoretic and empirical perspectives, using data from both speech and gestural modalities and from a diversity of acquisition environments. In turn, this comparison yields fresh insights on the mental bases of language creation. The book is organized into five parts: creolization and acquisition; acquisition under exceptional circumstances; language processing and syntactic change; parameter setting in acquisition and through creolization and language change; and a concluding part integrating the contributors' observations and proposals into a series of commentaries on the state of the art in our understanding of language development, its role in creolization and diachrony, and implications for linguistic theory.Contributors : Dany Adone, Derek Bickerton, Adrienne Bruyn, Marie Coppola, Michel DeGraff, Viviane Dprez, Alison Henry, Judy Kegl, David Lightfoot, John S. Lumsden, Salikoko S. Mufwene, Pieter Muysken, Elissa L. Newport, Luigi Rizzi, Ian Roberts, Ann Senghas, Rex A. Sprouse, Denise Tangney, Anne Vainikka, Barbara S. Vance, Maaike Verrips.

Book Creation and the Patriarchal Histories

Download or read book Creation and the Patriarchal Histories written by Patrick Henry Reardon and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Subtitle: Orthodox Christian Reflections on the Book of Genesis The Book of Genesis is foundational reading for the Christian, concerned as it is with the origins of our race and the beginnings of salvation history. Its opening pages provide the theological suppositions of the entire biblical story: Creation, especially that of man in God's image, the structure of time, man's relationship to God, the entrance of sin into the world, and God's selection of a specific line of revelation that will give structure to history. Early Christian writers such as St. Paul saw no dichotomy between the writings of the Law, of which Genesis is the beginning, and the Gospel. Rather, the Gospel is the key to understanding the Law. In "Creation and the Patriarchal Histories," Fr. Reardon shows clearly how the proper understanding of Creation and the Fall informs all of Christian doctrine, and how the narratives of the patriarchs from Noah to Joseph pave the way for the salvation history that continues in Exodus.

Book Language and the Joint Creation of Knowledge

Download or read book Language and the Joint Creation of Knowledge written by Neil Mercer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-25 with total page 430 pages. Book excerpt: In the World Library of Educationalists series, international experts themselves compile career-long collections of what they judge to be their finest pieces – extracts from books, key articles, salient research findings, major theoretical and practical contributions – so the world can read them in a single manageable volume. Readers will be able to follow the themes and strands and see how their work contributes to the development of the field. Language and the Joint Creation of Knowledge draws on the most prominent writing of Neil Mercer, covering his ground-breaking and critically acclaimed work on the role of talk in education, and on the relationship between spoken language and cognition. The text explores key themes, relating theoretical ideas to research evidence and to practical educational situations that improve children’s lives. Offering students and researchers a clear, accessible and up-to-date account of a sociocultural perspective on the relationship between spoken language and cognition, it explains one of the key themes in Neil Mercer’s work – that humans have uniquely evolved the capacity to think together, or ‘interthink’. The flower opening toward the sun... is that language. The spiritual feeling of being one with God... is that language. The smile on a mother's face when her infant is placed in her arms... is that language. The tears in our eyes when we feel heard or feel seen... are that language. Over the course of time, we have forgotten. But now, once again, something is stirring. And we are Awakening... We are in the midst of a phenomenal global shift. We are awakening to the discovery that much of what we have believed until now, in fact, isn't true. Awakening is no longer secreted away in unconventional thinking. Awakening is what is happening. We just had no idea it would look or feel like it does. We have mistaken awakening for overwhelm, physical exhaustion, mental confusion, emotional anxiety. What we are experiencing, the old systems of understanding cannot sort out. Our minds and bodies are awakening into the Language of Creation. Our entire system is actively restoring this Original Design. We are beginning to remember, once again, that we are an integral part of life. New perceptions and applications are now demanded. After eons of time, we are in a powerful creative process as our Original Design reformats our minds, re configures our bodies, and reboots our physical and non-physical systems. This book is a road-map to navigate your path to your Original Design. Through the use of template-writing exercises you reconfigure your neural pathways to be life-enhancing rather than life-defeating, manifesting your life in the majesty of what it was always meant to be. The Language of Creation is a tool for re-formatting HOW you think to create the life you want.
