Book The Land Where I Found It All

Download or read book The Land Where I Found It All written by Buddhadeva Bose and published by Parabaas. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buddhadeva Bose belonged to that generation of Bengali writers of the thirties and forties who fought tooth and nail to escape the all-pervading influence of Rabindranath Tagore to establish their personal idioms. He succeeded, but the fascination, admiration, and awe of the older poet remained. He twice visited Shantiniketan with his family, once in 1938 and then in the summer of 1941, invited by the poet himself. The younger poet, who in youth rebelled against him, now worshipped him and truly loved him. The title of this memoir Sab Peyechhir Deshe (‘The land where I found it all’) says it all. He intended to give this book personally to Rabindranath as a gift of his deep appreciation, but, sadly, by the time the book came out of the press, Rabindranath had passed away. And what had been conceived as a gift of gratitude now turned into an elegy, a younger poet’s homage to his Master. This book has been ever a favourite with Bengali readers, and constitutes an invaluable addition to the study of Tagore and his life.

Download or read book The World As I Found It written by Bruce Duffy and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2011-12-28 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “wicked, melancholy, and . . . astonishing” novel reimagines the lives of three wildly different men adrift in the 20th century: Ludwig Wittgenstein, Bertrand Russell, and G. E. Moore (Newsday). When Bruce Duffy’s The World As I Found It was first published, critics and readers were bowled over by its daring reimagining of the lives of three very different men, the philosophers Bertrand Russell, G. E. Moore, and Ludwig Wittgenstein. A brilliant group portrait with the vertiginous displacements of twentieth-century life looming large in the background, Duffy’s novel depicts times and places as various as Vienna 1900, the trenches of World War I, Bloomsbury, and the colleges of Cambridge, while the complicated main characters appear not only in thought and dispute but in love and despair. Wittgenstein, a strange, troubled, and troubling man of gnawing contradictions, is at the center of a novel that reminds us that the apparently abstract and formal questions that animate philosophy are nothing less than the intractable matters of life and death.

Book Levels 3 4 English Reading for Understanding Analysis and Evaluation Skills

Download or read book Levels 3 4 English Reading for Understanding Analysis and Evaluation Skills written by Jane Cooper and published by Hodder Gibson. This book was released on 2017-01-09 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the essential close reading skills needed by students taking part in the Broad General Education, Levels 3-4 (in S1 to S3). Split into two parts, the first section uses examples, models and active-learning tasks to teach key concepts of reading for understanding, analysis and evaluation. The second section provides 15 practice assessments, based on a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts, which become progressively more challenging. As well as allowing learners to demonstrate BGE reading skills, this section serves as a useful precursor to the style of assessment encountered later on at National levels. This book will help students to: - develop their close reading abilities - understand the distinction between key ideas and supporting details - analyse writers' language and style via a broad range of sample texts.
