Book Lifting the Veil on the Lost Continent of Mu the Motherland of Men

Download or read book Lifting the Veil on the Lost Continent of Mu the Motherland of Men written by Jack Churchward and published by Ozark Mountain Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A re-issue of the 1926 classic by James Churchward, The Lost Continent of Mu: Motherland of Men supplemented with fresh research and new material by the author's great-grandson. In the 1920s, James Churchward wrote a series of groundbreaking books about the lost continent of Lemuria which he called the land of Mu. The basic premises are these: • The Garden of Eden was not in Asia, but on a sunken continent in the Pacific Ocean. • The Biblical story of creation came not from the peoples of the Nile, but from this now submerged continent of Mu—the Motherland of Men. • Mu was an advanced civilization of 64 million inhabitants… He obtained the information by living with monks and translating unknown manuscripts. Over the years, his books have come to be considered occult classics. Now his great-grandson, Jack Churchward, has resurrected this valuable work and added his own research. Included: · The Lost Continent · The Land of Man’s Advent on Earth · Egyptian Sacred Volume, Book of the Dead · Symbols of Mu · North American’s Place Among the Ancient Civilizations · The Geological History of Mu · Ancient Religious Conceptions · Ancient Sacred Mysteries, Rites and Ceremonies

Book Veiled Empire

    Book Details:
  • Author : Douglas T. Northrop
  • Publisher : Cornell University Press
  • Release : 2016-06-08
  • ISBN : 1501702963
  • Pages : 627 pages

Download or read book Veiled Empire written by Douglas T. Northrop and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-08 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on extensive research in the archives of Russia and Uzbekistan, Douglas Northrop here reconstructs the turbulent history of a Soviet campaign that sought to end the seclusion of Muslim women. In Uzbekistan it focused above all on a massive effort to eliminate the heavy horsehair-and-cotton veils worn by many women and girls. This campaign against the veil was, in Northrop's view, emblematic of the larger Soviet attempt to bring the proletarian revolution to Muslim Central Asia, a region Bolsheviks saw as primitive and backward. The Soviets focused on women and the family in an effort to forge a new, "liberated" social order. This unveiling campaign, however, took place in the context of a half-century of Russian colonization and the long-standing suspicion of rural Muslim peasants toward an urban, colonial state. Widespread resistance to the idea of unveiling quickly appeared and developed into a broader anti-Soviet animosity among Uzbeks of both sexes. Over the next quarter-century a bitter and often violent confrontation ensued, with battles being waged over indigenous practices of veiling and seclusion.New local and national identities coalesced around these very practices that had been placed under attack. Veils became powerful anticolonial symbols for the Uzbek nation as well as important markers of Muslim propriety. Bolshevik leaders, who had seen this campaign as an excellent way to enlist allies while proving their own European credentials as enlightened reformers, thus inadvertently strengthened the seclusion of Uzbek women—precisely the reverse of what they set out to do. Northrop's fascinating and evocative book shows both the fluidity of Central Asian cultural practices and the real limits that existed on Stalinist authority, even during the ostensibly totalitarian 1930s.

Book Sherlock Holmes The Veiled Lodger and The Land of Mist

Download or read book Sherlock Holmes The Veiled Lodger and The Land of Mist written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When one considers that Mr. Sherlock Holmes was in active practice for twenty-three years, and that during seventeen of these I was allowed to cooperate with him and to keep notes of his doings, it will be clear that I have a mass of material at my command. The problem has always been not to find but to choose. There is the long row of year-books which fill a shelf and there are the dispatch-cases filled with documents, a perfect quarry for the student not only of crime but of the social and official scandals of the late Victorian era. Concerning these latter, I may say that the writers of agonized letters, who beg that the honour of their families or the reputation of famous forebears may not be touched, have nothing to fear. The discretion and high sense of professional honour which have always distinguished my friend are still at work in the choice of these memoirs, and no confidence will be abused. I deprecate, however, in the strongest way the attempts which have been made lately to get at and to destroy these papers. The source of these outrages is known, and if they are repeated I have Mr. Holmes’s authority for saying that the whole story concerning the politician, the lighthouse, and the trained cormorant will be given to the public. There is at least one reader who will understand. It is not reasonable to suppose that every one of these cases gave Holmes the opportunity of showing those curious gifts of instinct and observation which I have endeavoured to set forth in these memoirs. Sometimes he had with much effort to pick the fruit, sometimes it fell easily into his lap. But the most terrible human tragedies were often involved in those cases which brought him the fewest personal opportunities, and it is one of these which I now desire to record. In telling it, I have made a slight change of name and place, but otherwise the facts are as stated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Author: My God is kind, compassionate, merciful, and he loves me. Yet, there are questions that arise; there are accounts of God that seem contradictory to my simplicity, and there are accusations against God that can leave me struggling for an explanation. At times I’ve been confused by the concept of God’s love and the reality of life, and there often existed a dichotomy between the two. I wrote this book after numerous conversations with friends who, regardless of their spiritual journey have experienced similar thoughts, or have simply ignored some of the hard questions of life and faith. Common societal thinking in many areas is moving towards a position where people regard God as an outdated fairy-tale with a sinister undertone leading to apathy or resentment towards God. This is far removed from my notion of a living and loving God who is kind, compassionate and merciful. Embarking on my personal journey of discovering God’s reputation, I have a hunch that I’m not alone. I need to explore God and find comfort with the answer. Would you join me on this journey of discovery? Maybe all the dots haven’t been joined, and some of the joined dots remain open to interpretation, yet the line I’ve used to join the dots is what I know of the underlying nature and character of God.
