Book Who s Buried in Grant s Tomb

Download or read book Who s Buried in Grant s Tomb written by Brian Lamb and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some presidents have been larger than life but none of them have been larger than death. Brian Lamb has visited the gravesites of every American president, living and dead, in order to put together this book, with assistance from the staff of C-SPAN. Heavily illustrated and with contributions from historians Richard Norton Smith and Douglas Brinkley, Who's Buried in Grant's Tomb? is about the presidents' lives as much as it is about their final resting places. The book's collection of the presidents' last words, from Franklin Delano Roosevelt's "I have a terrific headache" to John Adams's "Thomas Jefferson still survives" offers a poignant and sometimes humorous look at the last moments of the great men. This is a great way to encounter the presidents, from the great ones to the near-forgottens. Who's Buried in Grant's Tomb? belongs in the glove box of every traveler and the bedside table of every fan of the American presidency and American history.

Book REGARDLESS THEY WERE THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES

Download or read book REGARDLESS THEY WERE THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES written by DR. RICHARD F. FELICETTI and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Dr. Richard F. Felicetti. I have always been interested in the history of the United States, especially Presidents of the United States. In the early 1960's I started and still do today, collecting Presidential Campaign Buttons. My professional career was in the Field of Education. After two years of Military Service, I began my professional career. I was a Teacher, Principal at three levels-Grade School, Junior High School and High School, Director of a Head Start Summer Program, Adjunct College Professor and Superintendent of a Grade School District. I retired as Superintendent of School District 206, Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois, the high school district that I graduated from in 1951. When I graduated from high school, I went on to receive my Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Northern Illinois University. I received my Ph.D. from Walden University in 1993. When I retired from education in 1994, I asked myself what can I do that would be of interest. With my hobby of collecting Presidential Campaign Buttons, I thought it would be fun, exciting and certainly interesting to visit all the gravesites of the deceased Presidents of the United States. I began my journey in 1999 and completed it in 2012. During that time, I have visited every gravesite of our deceased presidents and in some cases I have visited them on many occasions. When I visited the gravesites, I would take thirty to forty photographs of them. From the very beginning, I knew that someday I would write a book covering my thoughts and experiences that I had while on was on my journey. I have now completed my book. I have written a story about each visit to the presidential gravesites. To go along with each story, I would like to have certain photographs printed of the presidential gravesites. In addition to writing about my visits to the presidential gravesites, I have written my Introduction, Epilogue, Acknowledgements, Dedication and also About the Author. I do feel my story will create interest, make a person smile and at times bring tears to the eyes of the reader. It is a story that was heart warming for me to do and I am hopeful that I may share it with the world. I presently live in Peoria, Arizona with my wife, Sharon. As we continue to travel, we will continue to visit presidential gravesites. Every visit is different, always meaningful, moving, sometimes sad, but always tells me that my story has to be shared.

Book The President Is Dead

Download or read book The President Is Dead written by Louis L. Picone and published by Skyhorse. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Updated Edition* A fun, anecdote-filled, encyclopedic look at the circumstances surrounding the deaths of every president and a few “almost presidents,” such as Jefferson Davis. Packed with fun facts and presidential trivia, The President Is Dead! tells you everything you could possibly want to know about how our presidents, from George Washington to George H. W. Bush (who was the most recent president to die), met their ends, the circumstances of their deaths, the pomp of their funerals, and their public afterlives, including stories of attempted grave robbings, reinterments, vandalism, conspiracy theories surrounding their deaths, and much more. The President Is Dead! is filled with never-before-told stories, including a suggestion by one prominent physician to resurrect George Washington from death by transfusing his body with lamb’s blood. You may have heard of a plot to rob Abraham Lincoln’s body from its grave site, but did you know that there was also attempts to steal Benjamin Harrison's and Andrew Jackson’s remains? The book also includes “Critical Death Information,” which prefaces each chapter, and a complete visitor’s guide to each grave site and death-related historical landmark. An “Almost Presidents” section includes chapters on John Hanson (first president under the Articles of Confederation), Sam Houston (former president of the Republic of Texas), David Rice Atchison (president for a day), and Jefferson Davis. Exhaustively researched, The President Is Dead! is richly layered with colorful facts and entertaining stories about how the presidents have passed. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. Each entry tells the date and place of the player's birth, the number of seasons he spent in the majors, the primary position he played, the number of seasons he spent as a manager in the majors (if applicable), his post-baseball career and activities, date and cause of his death, and his final resting place.
