Book Faith Formation of the Laity in Catholic Schools

Download or read book Faith Formation of the Laity in Catholic Schools written by Sister Patricia Helene Earl and published by IAP. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two major real-world problems prompted this study: maintaining the Catholic identity of the Catholic schools, and increasing interest in character education. Traditionally, Catholic schools in the United States were staffed exclusively by priests, sisters, and brothers. Today, they are predominately staffed by laypersons. This change has influenced the essential religious character and culture of Catholic schools. While Religious filter their teachings through their own religious training and emphasize the mission and charisma of Catholic education, lay staff often lack the same intensely religious experiences to bring to the teaching/learning environment. This qualitative interview study explored the influence that a series of spirituality and virtue seminars had on lay teachers’ perceptions of the Catholic school and character education.

Download or read book Education of the Laity in the Early Middle Ages Classic Reprint written by Patrick Joseph McCormick and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Education of the Laity in the Early Middle Ages In this dissertation the aim has been to show the nature and extent of the provision made in the early Middle Ages for the education of the laity. The period covered is from the fall of the Roman Empire to the rise of the universities, or more precisely, from the fifth to the eleventh century, inclusively. The attempt has been made to describe the state of education in each succeeding century, to indicate the distribution of schools over different areas, and to show the possibilities of education open to those who were not preparing for the clerical or the religious life. In consequence, the great movements which affected the state of culture or learning and revived the educational spirit of the time have come first under consideration, the effect of such movements on general education and particularly on the elementary instruction of the young, being especially noted. The efforts in behalf of educational reform made by those in authority in State and Church, e. g., Charlemagne and Alcuin, Louis the Pious and St. Benedict of Aniane, are shown both by an examination of the capitularies, canons and decrees of councils and synods of their time, and wherever possible, by the actual results which were obtained in the quickening of educational thought and zeal on the part of the leaders, and in the establishment of schools. It is believed that undue importance is not given to the enactments of civil or ecclesiastical law dealing with educational matters. Regarded as evidences of law and precept and not merely as points of recommendation, they are held to he remarkable for their number and variety; they are not thought to he seriously defective because wanting in that detail which so many consider as necessary for the inauguration of any new measures of administration or reform. • Author : R. Paul Stevens
  • Publisher : Regent College Publishing
  • Release : 2002-03
  • ISBN : 9781573830126
  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Liberating the Laity written by R. Paul Stevens and published by Regent College Publishing. This book was released on 2002-03 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every church has far more work than any one person can do. Even a team of professionals is not enough. The New Testament solution was for every member to be a minister. Though the priesthood of all believers was a key idea in the Reformation, it is little practised today. Following secular models, churches usually organize around the clergy, who are paid by the laity to do the ministry. Paul Stevens argues that, according to Scripture, the primary task of a Christian leader is not to do the work but to equip the saints to do it. Exploring new options for pastors, tentmakers and laypeople, this book provides structures and strategies to best equip all the saints for ministry.
