Book excerpt: The "Three Initiates" who authored The Kybalion chose to remain anonymous. As a result, a great deal of speculation has been made about who actually wrote the book. The most common proposal is that The Kybalion was authored by William Walker Atkinson (1862 –1932), either alone or with others, such as Paul Foster Case (1884 –1954) and Elias Gewurz . The Kybalion is based on the extensive research and study of the world-old Hermetic Teachings. The book has dedicated to everyone interested in Secret Doctrines. There has been so little written upon this subject, not withstanding the countless references to the Teachings in the many works upon occultism, that the many earnest searchers after the Arcane Truths will doubtless welcome the appearance of this present volume. The purpose of this work is not the enunciation of any special philosophy or doctrine, but rather is to give to the students a statement of the Truth that will serve to reconcile the many bits of occult knowledge that they may have acquired, but which are apparently opposed to each other and which often serve to discourage and disgust the beginner in the study. Our intent is not to erect a new Temple of Knowledge, but rather to place in the hands of the student a Master-Key with which he may open the many inner doors in the Temple of Mystery through the main portals he has already entered. (Three Initiates, The Kybalion)

Book excerpt: He was the father of the occult, the founder of astrology, the discoverer of alchemy. He was Hermes Trismegistus, and as the scribe of the gods of ancient Egypt, he possessed all divine knowledge... which he passed on to humanity, though only those who have been tutored in its wonders can fully understand it. In this extraordinary 1912 book, three secret initiates to his teachings-who remain anonymous to this day-share their insight with all who seek to understand the mysterious underpinnings of the universe and our relationship with it. An appreciation of Hermeticism, as the basis of all paranormal philosophies still studied today, is an absolute must for anyone fascinated by magic, the supernatural, and the wisdom of the ancients.

Book excerpt: Seven Fundamental Principles That Could Change Your LifeAccording to ancient Greek and Egyptian literature, Hermes Trismegistus, legendary father of the occult and ascribed founder of astrology, practiced a divinely inspired form of mental alchemy focused on transforming the mind rather than physical materials. In essence, he pursued a sort of spiritual ascension, a transmutation of the soul leading to a freeing of one's true self. For millennia, though, the foundational precepts of early Hermetic mysticism remained shrouded in secrecy, known only to a select few. The Kybalion, purportedly written by three anonymous initiates of Hermes' teaching, finally parts the obscuring fog and reveals clear and simple pathways to understanding and applying the transformative spiritual knowledge, regardless of one's religious tradition or belief system. This life-changing treatise outlines seven universal laws upon which the entire Hermetic Philosophy, and possibly even the nature of existence itself, are based. These seven key principles are: mentalism, correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender. With its lucid commentary on aphorisms from original source material, The Kybalion provides modern readers with invaluable insights for achieving personal self-development and living the best life possible. It is also a vital resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of paranormal philosophies, arcane truths, esoteric studies, magic, mysticism, the occult, the supernatural, or the wonders of the universe, or those simply seeking a deeper appreciation for the secret doctrines and powerful wisdom of the ancients. This Echo Point Books edition is complete with index. This book is also available from Echo Point Books in hardcover (ISBN 1635617561).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kybalion is a book originally published in 1908 by "Three Initiates" (often identified as the New Thought pioneer William Walker Atkinson, 1862–1932) that purports to convey the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. While it shares with ancient and medieval Hermetic texts a number of traits such as philosophical mentalism, the concept of 'as above, so below', and the idea that everything consists of gendered polar opposites, as a whole it is more indebted to the ideas of modern occultist authors, especially those of the New Thought movement to which Atkinson belonged. A modern Hermetic tract, it has been widely influential in New Age circles since the twentieth century.

Book excerpt: Here is the flagship edition of the most popular occult work of the past century, now published with a groundbreaking historical introduction that establishes its authentic authorship and a "lost" bonus work by the original author. It is one of the most mysterious and hotly debated occult works ever written-and without question the most popular and widely influential book of arcane philosophy of the twentieth century: The Kybalion has been credited only to the cryptic "Three Initiates" since its first appearance in 1908. Debate rages over the identity of the Three Initiates, the origin of the book's mysterious title and insights, and the nature of the Hermetic teachings on which it is thought to be based. Now the veil is parted. The Kybalion: The Definitive Edition presents the first full- scale analysis of this work of practical occult wisdom. It features the complete text of The Kybalion and the first-ever publication of Atkinson's previously unknown post-Kybalion work: The Seven Cosmic Laws. In an engaging introduction to this unique volume, religious scholar Philip Deslippe surveys the work's context, history, and impact (including as a source of spiritual insight to communities ranging from New Thought to Black Nationalism), and provides a biographical sketch of its elusive author, the New Thought pioneer William Walker Atkinson. As valuable to new fans as it is to longtime readers who crave more knowledge about Atkinson and his work, The Kybalion: The Definitive Edition illuminates the remarkable history of this long-cherished text.
