Book excerpt: The Prophet (saws) established in a number of narration’s that we should stick to the main body of the Ummah: “My community will not come together on misguidance.”; “A group of my community will continue on truth until the coming of the Hour.”; “Whoever leaves the community or separates himself from it by the length of a span, dies the death of the Jahiliyya (period of kufr prior to Islam).”;”You have to follow the congregation for verily Allah will not make the largest group of Muhammad’s community agree on error.”; “Whoever among you wants to be in the middle of Paradise, let him cling to the congregation.”; “Shaytan is a wolf like the wolf that preys on sheep, taking the isolated and the stray among them; therefore, avoid factionalism and keep to the congregation and the collective and the masjid.”; “Verily Allah has protected my Community from agreeing upon error.”; “Allah’s hand is over the group, and whoever dissents from them departs to hell.”; “Allah’s hand is over the group, follow the largest group, for verily whoever dissents from them departs to hell.” Who the Main body is has not changed for the past 1400 years, and that is the Madhhabs (Hanaf, Shafii, Maliki, Hanbali), this work discusses the implications of these Ahadith in our time and presents demographics for the muslim world showing what the muslim world follows along with an assessment of what this means in relation to the signs of the hour. Download or read book Obedience Ijtihad Taqlid written by M Mushfiqur Rahman and published by . This book was released on 2016-09-12 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BOOK DESCRIPTION Ittiba', Ijtihad, and Taqlid are three important concepts that affect one's practice of Islam whether he is a scholar or an ordinary Muslim. Ittiba' is "obedience," or the understanding of whom we should follow and give our obedience to in practicing or living by our religion. Ijtihad is to strive with utmost sincerity in arriving at the truth or the resolution of a problem. And taqlid is "blind imitation" or accepting the opinion or judgment of a person or a group without checking for its validity or evidence, believing that it is always correct. One who engages in taqlid does not consider any contrary opinion even if it may be backed up by authentic evidence from the Sunnah, since he/she believes that his Imam or madhhab is always correct or has the best opinions already. This work shows that Islam teaches us to submit our intellect to none but Allah and accept opinions based on objective evidence regardless of affiliations. It also points out some of the ill effects of taqlid on the ummah. EXCERPTS "A Muslim, by Qur'anic obligation, has a duty to think, and he submits his intellect to none but the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and then, by His authority, to His prophets. Opinions of all other human beings or entities are subject to test for soundness." - From the Introduction "As the knowledge of the Sunnah spreads among people, its spirit will touch and guide all spheres of human life ... More and more people will come to discover the beauty and essence of this religion. Ignorance among common people will give way to better understanding and practice of our religion and what it means to be Muslim while incompetence, superficial knowledge, sectarian mindset, and even lack of basic manners ... will be replaced by genuine scholarship, deeper understanding and insight, generous outlook, and independent thinking and judgment that is free of fear of enmity and sectarian intolerance. The fresh and revitalizing breeze of the Sunnah can bring about such an atmosphere; it is not utopian but a reality that existed among the early Muslims and many today are yearning for its return." - From the Epilogue

This book was released on 1999-01-30 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam is a long-awaited translation of Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi's well-known Arabic work, Al-Halal Al-Haram Fil-Islam. Over the years since ite first publication in 1960, this volume has enjoyed a huge readership in the Arabic speaking world and is now in its 20th edition. It came to dispel the ambiguities surrounding the honorable Shari'ah, and to fulfill the essential needs of the Muslims in this age. It clarifies the Halal (Lawful) and why it is Halal, and the Haram (Prohibited) and why it is Haram, referring to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be on him). It answers all the questions which may face the Muslims today, and refutes the ambiguities and lies about Islam. In a very simple way, Al-Halal Al-Haram Fil-Islam delves into the authentic references in Islamic jurisprudence and fiqh. It therefrom extracts judgments of interest to contemporary Muslims in the areas of worship, business dealings, marriage and divorce, food and drink, dress and ornaments, patterns of behavior, individual and group relations, family and social ethics, habits and social customs. Referring to authentic texts, it clarifies that "Permission is the rule in everything, unless it is otherwise specified in matters that adversely affect individuals or groups." It also clarifies that "Allah is the only authority who has the right to legislate for the lawful and the prohibited."

Book Ibn Rajab s Refutation of Those Who Do Not Follow the Four Schools

Download or read book Ibn Rajab s Refutation of Those Who Do Not Follow the Four Schools written by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali and published by . This book was released on 2016-01-27 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ibn Rajab's essay Refutation of Those Who Do Not Follow the Four Schools advocates for the necessity of following Islamic scholarship in general, and legal scholarship in particular. A large portion of the essay covers the history of the development of Islamic scholarship and how the Muslim Community came to recognize scholars as the source for authoritative knowledge. Readers of the essay will notice that Ibn Rajab is engaging individuals who saw themselves as equal or superior to prior generations of scholars, free to cast aside scholarship and to reinterpret without any need for requisite skills and knowledge. Although written seven centuries ago, it might as well have written with today's reformers in mind.

Book The Way of the Strangers

Download or read book The Way of the Strangers written by Graeme Wood and published by Random House Trade Paperbacks. This book was released on 2019-05-07 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does ISIS really want? This is the definitive account of the strategy, psychology, and fundamentalism driving the Islamic State. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY FOREIGN AFFAIRS • “Worthy of Joseph Conrad . . . gripping, sobering and revelatory.”—Tom Holland, New Statesman The Islamic State inspired a wave of true believers to travel to Syria from Europe, America, and the Middle East, in numbers not seen since the Crusades. What compelled tens of thousands of men and women to leave comfortable, privileged lives to join a death cult in the desert? Steven Pinker called Graeme Wood’s analysis of this phenomenon in The Atlantic “fascinating, terrifying, occasionally blackly humorous.” In The Way of the Strangers, Wood uses character study, analysis, and original reporting to take us further into the Islamic State’s apocalyptic vision. Though the Islamic State has lost territory, it threatens to rise again, and its followers are plotting on every continent. From the streets of Cairo to the mosques of London, Wood meets with supporters, recruiters, and scholars and asks them why they believe that killing and dying for this cause is the only path to Paradise. With a new afterword, The Way of the Strangers uncovers the theology and emotional appeal of this resilient group and explores its idiosyncratic, coherent approach to Islam. Just as Lawrence Wright’s The Looming Tower explained the rise of Al Qaida, this book will shape our understanding of a new and deadlier generation of terrorists. Praise for The Way of the Strangers “The Way of the Strangers represents journalism at its best: vivid writing, indefatigable legwork, and fearless analysis.”—Robert D. Kaplan, author of The Return of Marco Polo’s World “Wood is a brilliant analyst and storyteller, and his firsthand reporting and language abilities make him the most reliable commentator on the Islamic State that I have read. His wit matches his intelligence (’Well-behaved Salafis seldom make history’)—you don't get through any two pages in his book without a good laugh.”—Peter Theroux, author of Sandstorms: Days and Nights in Arabia “Excruciatingly well observed and devastatingly honest . . . This is the first and only book about the Islamic State to expose, explain, and ultimately undermine its ideology with the relentless irony that comes from blending deep knowledge with hands-on experience. Wood makes it impossible not to laugh, despite the horrors.”—Elisabeth Kendall, senior research fellow in Arabic and Islamic studies, University of Oxford

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of its "Caliphate" declaration in 2014, the self-described Islamic State has been the focus of countless academic papers, government studies, media commentaries and documentaries. Despite all this attention, persistent myths continue to shape--and misdirect--public understanding and strategic policy decisions. A significant factor in this trend has been a strong disinclination to engage critically with Islamic State's speeches and writings--as if doing so reflects empathy with the movement's goals or, even more absurdly, may itself lead to radicalisation. Going beyond the descriptive and the sensationalist, this volume presents and analyses a series of milestone Islamic State primary source materials. Scholar-practitioners with field experience in confronting the movement explore and contextualise its approach to warfare, propaganda and governance, examining the factors behind its dramatic evolution from failed proto-state in 2010 to standard-bearer of global jihadism in 2014, to besieged insurgency in 2018. The ISIS Reader will help anyone--students and journalists, military personnel, civil servants and inquisitive observers--to better understand not only the evolution of Islamic State and the dynamics of asymmetric warfare, but the importance of primary sources in doing so.

Book Salafism in Nigeria

Download or read book Salafism in Nigeria written by Alexander Thurston and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectre of Boko Haram and its activities in Nigeria dominates both media and academic analysis of Islam in the region. But, as Alexander Thurston argues here, beyond the sensational headlines this group generates, the dynamics of Muslim life in northern Nigeria remain poorly understood. Drawing on interviews with leading Salafis in Nigeria as well as on a rereading of the history of the global Salafi movement, this volume explores how a canon of classical and contemporary texts defines Salafism. Examining how these texts are interpreted and - crucially - who it is that has the authority to do so, Thurston offers a systematic analysis of curricula taught in Saudi Arabia and how they shape religious scholars' approach to religion and education once they return to Africa. Essential for scholars of religion and politics, this unique text explores how the canon of Salafism has been used and refined, from Nigeria's return to democracy to the jihadist movement Boko Haram.
