Book excerpt: "In business, imitation gets a bad rap: some business leaders see imitators as 'me too' players forced to copy because they have nothing original to offer. In Copycats, Oded Shenkar challenges this viewpoint. He reveals how imitation - the exact or broad-brushed copying of an innovation - is as critical to prosperity as innovation, especially when the two are used together."--Inside jacket.

Luckily, with the help of her family, new friends, and a touch of magic, Ali might just survive middle school after all. They’ve moved in with Ali’s great-grandmother?a lively ninety-nine-year-old with a quirky old house and room for all of them. Ali wants to believe it will be their last move, but everything seems too perfect to be true. To Ali’s surprise, things are different this time, but not in the way she’d hoped. She's inherited the Sloane family power?the ability to change her appearance into any living thing. Ali is a Copycat. Literally. And being the new kid at school is hard enough without worrying about turning into your teacher. Luckily, Ali’s new friends are eager to help. But as Ali soon learns, being a Copycat is no substitute for being yourself. The Copycat is a magical middle grade read for fans of Diana Wynne Jones, by the author of The Frame-Up.
Download or read book The Copycat Effect written by Loren Coleman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2004-09-14 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VIOLENCE BEGETS VIOLENCE BEGETS VIOLENCE... A disturbed student shoots up his classroom -- and suddenly a wave of mass murder is sweeping through our nation's schools. A young child is taken from her home -- and for months afterward child abductions are frantically reported on an almost daily basis. A surfer is attacked by a shark -- and the public spends an entire summer fearing an onslaught of the deadly underwater predators. Why do the terrible events we see in the media always seem to lead to more of the same? Noted author and cultural behaviorist Loren Coleman explores how the media's over-saturated coverage of murders, suicides, and deadly tragedies makes an impact on our society. This is The Copycat Effect -- the phenomenon through which violent events spawn violence of the same type. From recognizing the emerging patterns of the Copycat Effect, to how we can deal with and counteract its consequences as individuals and as a culture, Loren Coleman has uncovered a tragic flaw of the information age -- a flaw which must be corrected before the next ripples of violence spread.

This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There’s a lot to like about this book; firstly, it’s a clear labor of love, and many people have worked to make it what it is. It also gives great and personal insight into Agnes, who was unmistakably way ahead of her time in terms of her thoughts and actions; and many of Agnes’s thoughts and still relevant today. Maybe even more so! ~ ScriptAcuity Studios, Dog Ear editors Some people are defined by their times, and others redefine them. Agnes Edwards Partin was among the latter. Through Agnes’s letters spanning the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, and beyond, readers will discover firsthand accounts of the changing face of Los Angeles, from its modest roots to its postwar expansion. During her years in California, Agnes stepped away from the home, defying the traditions of her day, to seek employment and education—ever eyeing her goal of earning a doctorate. Alongside her husband, Leo, whose ideas were as progressive as Agnes’s, the Partin family faced numerous challenges and heartbreaks during the changing eras, but also many joys and accomplishments. Rising to the Challenge in Los Angeles: The Letters of Agnes Edwards Partin, 1926–1956 is the chronicle of a woman far ahead of her time, standing up against the societal expectations of gender. Her views, her thoughts, and her lessons are still as relevant today as when they were written decades ago.

Book excerpt: It’s obvious that, sometimes the high rated percentages of happiness is brought to us by doing our own ways, that’s why we always need to breathe and figure out on how we can build a better version of our own selves. A lot of things in life have got so many sadness bonded in, more than happiness. That’s why it’s very easy to fake a smile but it’s comparatively hard to fake sorrow in reality, because everyone needs and deserves to be happy. Sometimes we may feel less, like we need someone or something to cover up what we have been passing through or the things we encounter here and there, but trust me … None of them things matters. We only need to be open in the eyes again and again every day when we see something is not right, because we are not the first ones to face challenges and we are not special, means anything can happen to us in any time and it can hurt us sometimes or make us happy. This is more often, depends on the personality and the attitude. Trust me you need no one to make things happen, I mean no one from inside but you. You can keep your friends and family and you can be so happy with them, but again when you think in a deep thoughts you will return to what I’m saying here. President Barrack Obama needed no one but himself on his ways of becoming the first black president of America originated from East Africa (Kenya). The same thing happened to all successful people who have made changes in some sort of fields like politics, football, basketball, music, mechanics, computing, etc. It is clearly open that, people who are surrounding you right now are nothings to you…. You give them respects and you are happy with them, but they are completely nothing when it comes to you, including your parents sometimes.

Download or read book Building a Customer Service Culture written by Bob Hobbi and published by IAP. This book was released on 2008-08-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tenets of excellent customer service are central to any organization that creates or delivers products or services In fact, excellent customer service is a bigger differentiator today than it was twenty years ago. Customers are hungry for good service; they are hungry to establish long-term relationships with those who provide not only a one-time solution but serve as a long-term resource. There is a problem, however. Organizations and the people who work within them have difficulty implementing the principles of customer service. The vast majority of books and training materials on customer service teach the concepts, but do not provide the tools to implement them. In The Seven ServiceElements of Customer Success, we take you on an enjoyable journey where you will learn about the foundational principles of customer service and acquire the tools to implement those principles. These application tools will help make you more successful in your job and simultaneously contribute to an enhanced service culture in your organization. In the pages that follow, we blend classic knowledge with new information to create valuable insights about how to make customer service a sustainable competitive advantage in your job and for your organization.
Download or read book Copycats Contrarians written by Michelle Baddeley and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Why we run with—or avoid—the crowd, and why it matters, from choosing a restaurant in a tourist trap to believing fake news. I learned a lot” (Tim Harford, author of The Undercover Economist). Rioting teenagers, tumbling stock markets, and the spread of religious terrorism appear to have little in common, but all are driven by the same basic instincts: the tendency to herd, follow, and imitate others. In today’s interconnected world, group choices all too often seem maladaptive. With unprecedented speed, information—or misinformation—flashes across the globe and drives rapid shifts in group opinion. Adverse results can include speculative economic bubbles, irrational denigration of scientists and other experts, seismic political reversals, and more. Drawing on insights from across the social, behavioral, and natural sciences, Michelle Baddeley explores contexts in which behavior is driven by the herd. She analyzes the rational vs. nonrational and cognitive vs. emotional forces involved, and she investigates why herding only sometimes works out well. With new perspectives on followers, leaders, and the pros and cons of herd behavior, Baddeley shines vivid light on human behavior in the context of our ever-more-connected world. “Her observations on how both risk-taking and conformism contributed to Donald Trump’s election, and on how social media affects ‘copycats,’ make for a well-timed and valuable study.” —Publishers Weekly “This might well become the defining book, for this decade and more, on the topic of herding and social influence.” —Cass Sunstein, co-author of Nudge
Download or read book Global Wikipedia written by Pnina Fichman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dozens of books about Wikipedia are available, but they all focus on the English Wikipedia and assume an Anglo-Saxon perspective, while disregarding cultural and language variability or multi-cultural collaborative efforts. They address the impact of Wikipedia on society, processes of mass knowledge production, and the dynamics of the Wikipedia community. However, none of them focus on Wikipedia’s global features. This lack of attention presents a serious problem because more than 80% of Wikipedia articles are written in languages other than English---in fact, Wikipedia includes articles in 285 languages. Global Wikipedia: International and Cross-Cultural Issues in Online Collaboration is the first book to address this gap by focusing attention on the global, multilingual, and multicultural aspects of Wikipedia. The editors showcase research on Wikipedia, exploring a wide range of international and cross-cultural issues. Online global collaboration, coordination, and conflict management are examined in this rich socio technical environment. Special emphases include International and cross-cultural collaboration; Intercultural synergy on Wikimedia; Conflict and collaboration in editing international entries; Case studies of Chinese, Finnish, French, and Greek Wikipedias; and, Cross-cultural studies that compare more than one Wikipedia, focusing on content, structures, policies, contributions, interactions, processes, motivations, and challenges.
