My teacher told me that the two types of kids, who get into the most trouble are, policemans kids. and preachers kids. This year I may just prove it. I hope my dad dont find this, on my computer. He would kill me. Dear God, please show me if your real. I need to know. Or are you just a story like Santa Claus. I just dont know anymore. Please Jesus, help me! I have a mission. The kid said. "Will you lone me enough money to buy lunch? I really mean: Will you give me enough money, because I cant pay you back." I saw a tear in his eye. I just knew, he was telling the truth. I never saw this boy before. I hoped this would be the last time. The boy had long hair, an old green army type shirt, and old blue jeans. I condemned him, as not being good enough. Anyone could wear better than that to school. I gave him the money he wanted. I was surprised to see him walk out of the lunchroom, and down the hallway. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grandmaster Miskel shares his wit and insight into the deeper meaning of martial arts. Essays like, "A Scientific Breakdown of the Strike" discuss the difference between a crushing strike, a compression strike, a jarring strike, a stunning strike, and a shocking strike that will render an opponent unconscious. Grandmaster Miskel explains the foundations and origins of many of the systems developed today. He speaks fondly of the early days and battles and with pride at the direction our brotherhood is going in the future. He talks about martial arts snobbery and petty jealousy that divide us and about the need for unity and tolerance. He reminisces about the old days in Chicago, he speaks of the philosophical principles that form our code of conduct and chivalry, and explains the concept of "coming full circle," so that, in the end, the techniques of the Grandmaster are as simple as those of a beginner, only devastatingly more effective.

Book Warrior Apprenticeship with the Grandmaster

Download or read book Warrior Apprenticeship with the Grandmaster written by Michael Coleman and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What are the martial arts? - This is the most mysterious point which one gains without learning." These cryptic words were spoken by one of the greatest martial artists of the twentieth century, Grandmaster Takamatsu Toshitsugu*. He passed away in 1972, the same year I began studying martial arts. I was too young to question why I liked the training. My family members had been soldiers for generations, and my uncle was even stationed in Asia and studied budo (Japanese martial arts). I guess it follows that my parents' daycare center curriculum included karate for Kindergarteners. But as I grew older and after years of fighting in tournaments, my curiosity about the roots and true meaning behind the discipline grew. At fourteen, I stopped sparring and turned to more substantial forms of research and exercise. Shortly after, I happened to pick up a book written by an American who had gone to Japan and trained with a mysterious master called Tanemura Sensei. The author was greatly impressed but for some reason missed his opportunity to complete his training with Tanemura Sensei. Perhaps I had a chance...I was only from a small city in the Midwest. I had no connection to the Japanese Grandmaster thousands of miles away. Even so I felt that somehow, I'd eventually meet Tanemura Sensei and receive the direct teaching I longed for. Five years of searching went by, and because the internet had not yet been invented, the hunt was even more challenging. I was sometimes overcome by confusion and despair. At times, I even forgot the goal entirely. But eventually destiny reminded me that I had to learn the truth. This book contains the story of how my apprenticeship unfolded.

Harrell has dedicated most of his life to the study and practice of an ancient art of self defence, and to the development of those skills that would allow him to share his knowledge with the next generation. His book tells the story of his personal journey in martial arts and the lessons learned from fifty-three years of training. The book begins with the author’s introduction to martial arts in his home town in Suffolk at a time when segregation usually led to the exclusion of black children and adults from these white-dominated activities. Even at this early stage GM Harrell had a strong desire to teach and he asked his first, and every subsequent teacher to teach him to teach the martial arts. He goes on to describe those things that he learned from each of his teachers about how to share knowledge and skill with students of all ages and ability levels. In addition he reveals numerous insights gained from his many years of teaching and training. The book explains how he makes use of modern teaching methods and resources to replicate and remain faithful to what has been handed down to him by his instructors, including the traditions and values of martial art training.

Download or read book Riding the Tiger s Tail written by Gary Giamboi and published by . This book was released on 2014-09-23 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Riding the Tiger's Tail is the perfect title for this book. On one level, it recounts the story of one person who decided he needed to find a Master (Tiger) and become his student (Ride on its Tail) in order to reach his goal of personal excellence. It is the story of an unlikely encounter between the Grandmaster of traditional Japanese martial arts and a long time dedicated student of the martial arts. On a deeper level, this book explains why choosing the right teacher is perhaps the single most important task a student must accomplish. By providing insight in to how a traditional master of an Eastern Art thinks and feels about his organization, his students and his teachings, Riding the Tiger's Tail explains why it is becoming increasingly difficult for students in today's culture of immediate gratification to become accepted as personal students or disciples by a Grandmaster of a traditional Eastern art. The author met Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura when he was a typical dedicated American martial art student who had no intentions other than becoming a better martial artist. The story spans 26 years from the day they met while attending a Mets baseball game in New York City to the author finishing his annual month long training at Honbu dojo in Japan in 2014. During the those 26 years, Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura and his martial art organizations have earned the highest respect of the world's martial art community. As the Grandmaster's journey progressed, the author slowly, but inexorably, realized his journey was tied to that of his teacher. He had to learn how to be a traditional student before he could learn how to become a high level traditional martial artist. To be perfectly clear, the book is not about martial art techniques. It is about what it takes to become a personal student of an orthodox Grandmaster of a traditional Eastern discipline. The book is about dedication, loyalty and humility. It is about learning to let go of one's ego. If a student wants to be a traditional student, he/she must develop a heart-to-heart connect with their instructor. There is no way around this. Without this kind of relationship, it is nearly impossible to learn to accept your true teacher knows what is best for you to learn, when you learn should learn it and how you should learn it. Indeed, without this kind of relationship, it would be impossible for the instructor to know these things. Equally as important, he will know what is not necessary for you to learn at any particular time. The book makes the two main characters come alive by chronicling many specific teachings and incidents the author witnessed in his twenty six year journey learning a Koryu Japanese Martial Art. Riding the Tiger's Tail is an important read if you want to learn from a master of a traditional Eastern art; and, it is an absolute must read you want to learn a Koryu (Traditional or Classical) Japanese Martial Art.
