In order to do it, we have based on the definition and the characteristics of knowledge in organizations and their relation with the creation of sustainable competitive advantages. Specifically, we suggest a set of actions to be used by managers. We examine the structure by which the organizations acquire knowledge, process to which we denominated accumulation. Within this last section, the present work is dedicated to one of the essential elements that comprise the knowledge management, as it is the understanding of the process by means of which the organizations make the accumulation of the necessary knowledge for the obtaining of sustainable competitive advantages. One considers, from the point of view of the management, the existing tools of management within this field, as it is the influence of the networks and the technologies in all the process and what tools we dispose to develop it. El presente trabajo pretende ampliar la metodología existente sobre cuales son los contenidos específicos de la gestión del conocimiento. Para ello, partiremos de la definición y las características del conocimiento en las organizaciones y su relación con la creación de ventajas competitivas sostenibles. Para ello incidiremos en una propuesta de acciones vinculadas a la Gestión del Conocimiento, mediante la delimitación de la estructura por la cual las organizaciones adquieren conocimiento, proceso al que denominamos acumulación. Dentro de este último apartado el presente trabajo se circunscribe a uno de los elementos esenciales que forman parte de la gestión del conocimiento en la actualidad como es la comprensión del proceso mediante el cual las organizaciones realizan la acumulación del conocimiento necesario para la obtención de ventajas competitivas sostenibles. Se plantea, desde el punto de vista de la dirección, cuales son las herramientas de gestión existentes dentro de este campo, cual es la influencia de las redes y de las tecnologías en todo el proceso y qué medios se disponen para desarrollarlo.

Book excerpt: In this article, we consider a knowledge accumulation problem within an organization that cannot prevent the worker from quitting and using the knowledge outside the organization. We show that knowledge accumulation is delayed: The fraction of working time allocated to knowledge creation is highest at the early career stage, falls gradually, then rises again, before falling finally toward zero. We determine the effect of a change in the severity of the enforcement problem (or the specificity of knowledge). We also discuss the form of the optimal life-cycle wage profiles, the role of the initial knowledge level, and the role of discounting.

Book excerpt: Information technology organizations often assume that to improve knowledge sharing, a knowledge management system must be independently developed or purchased. The intent of this dissertation is to illustrate that a knowledge sharing strategy can be designed by combining existing technologies and techniques. While some software development work may be required, it should be largely limited to the integration required to fill gaps that are critical to a usable knowledge framework. This recommended approach will be demonstrated through participatory action research in a globally diverse corporate environment. There are many stakeholders in the information technology (IT) domain, including the business community and software development and infrastructure support staff. This project explores to what degree knowledge sharing will be enhanced across IT stakeholders by employing a strategy that exploits existing technology investments and capitalizes on the social aspect of software engineering. The context chosen to address this question consists of the activities required to define, analyze, and achieve the non-functional requirements of a software system. Conclusions from the work include the following recommendations. Organizations must recognize the importance of processes in the enablement of knowledge sharing and the impact that immature processes can have on intended collaboration. Process must first enable knowledge sharing, and organizational changes may be a part of that process improvement. A technology layer can then be added to improve knowledge creation and sharing. Workflow automation within communities of practice enables the flow of knowledge between knowledge workers with common goals. Enterprise knowledge sharing capability can be evolved by focusing the scope of each effort on a community of practice. Cultural change can be achieved incrementally through these communities. .
