Asaro The Sacred Chronicles: Wild Dreams is a dark fantasy that is uniquely written with an odd sense of humor. A young singer raised in a small town tries to make it to fame and fortune. His destiny for the spotlight is suddenly changed into a journey that leads him to a remote hotel in the middle of nowhere with guests and an innkeeper who is suspected of being some kind of shape-shifter. Maurice LaShore is an owner of a small music label in the sleepy town of Darlington who sends his new client, Dustin Mendez, on a simple, but mysterious assignment to an old, shaggy hotel called Yu Ji Cove to pick up a young woman by the name of Lydia Delino. During Dustin’s stay, he stumbles upon a terrifying secret about all the inhabitants at Yu Ji Cove: a secret that is brought to light and causes the whole hotel to burn for it. After the fire, Dustin finds himself on the run from hunters while he is in desperate search for Lydia Delino. Filled with werewolves, were-cats, hunters, possessions and more, this novel explores another world beyond the ordinary that will either destroy Dustin or save him from total despair.

Book Xenophobe s Guide to the Kiwis

Download or read book Xenophobe s Guide to the Kiwis written by Christine Cole Catley and published by Xenophobe's Guide. This book was released on 2008-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Straight laced and straight faced A good Kiwi bloke plays things down and does not stand on ceremony. The rugby player who scores a try is no longer expected to look as if he is bravely accepting a death sentence but, other than in sport, emotion is not something to be shown in public, and not much in private either. A blokess is allowed more latitude. She is even expected by men to "carry on a bit." Optimists one and all Whether or not there is a need to worry about something, the obliging Kiwis tell one another that it will be "good as gold," "right as rain," and "no prob" (short for problem), usually qualified by one of those great reassurers in any situation, "She'll be right," or "Piece of cake." Good citizenship To Kiwis, politeness is synonymous with warmth and generosity of spirit. Thus North Islanders, when complimented by visitors on their scenery, will ask anxiously, "But have you seen the South Island yet?" They do not want to be seen as hogging the best bits for themselves. Even handed Kiwis love receiving praise about their country. However, since self-deprecation is wired deeply into the national psyche, praise is looked upon suspiciously. Kiwis fear they are being buttered up, or somebody is having them on. Both praise and criticism are reported by the media, and are hotly debated.

Book The Chronicles of Major Peabody

Download or read book The Chronicles of Major Peabody written by Galen Winter and published by CCB Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07-08 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major Nathaniel Peabody, USA (ret.) first saw the light of day in December of 1987 in Vol. 1, Issue 1 of the Shooting Sportsman magazine. Since that date, he has lived on the back page of every issue of that magazine. Peabody is a consummate waterfowl and upland bird hunter. Excepting those times when his profligacy assumes more than usual proportions, a well-endowed Spendthrift Trust allows him to hunt wherever he wants and whenever he wants. He has left his boot prints from southern Argentina to northern Canada - wherever geese or grouse or ducks or woodcock can be found. Dogs display a sincere affection for him. His shotguns have no time to collect dust. He is not infected with the disease of politically correct posturing. Gun Controllers and Pseudo-Environmentalists don't like him. This is the second volume of Major Peabody's shotgunning tales. About the Author An attorney, Galen Winter lived in Latin America and, for fifteen years, specialized in international law. He became a corporation counsel in Milwaukee, then in Chicago and, finally, engaged in the private practice of law in northern Wisconsin where, he says, "A man can associate with dogs and shotguns without arousing too much suspicion." Winter began writing about his passions - hunting and fishing - in 1984, contributing many articles to several national and regional outdoor magazines. He compiled a wild game cookbook, and wrote two novels. THE CHRONICLES OF MAJOR PEABODY is his fifth volume of short stories and essays. Winter has hunted and fished all over the western hemisphere - in arctic islands north of Canada's Nunavut Territory, in the Amazon basin, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua, the Argentine Patagonia, Uruguay and various places within the United States where game birds are found. Jessine, his wife of over fifty years, put up with him through it all.

Book Australian Rock Chronicles 1955 1964

Download or read book Australian Rock Chronicles 1955 1964 written by Paul Vincent and published by Paul Vincent. This book was released on 2024-08-28 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australian Rock Chronicles 1955-1964 retraces the evolution of Australian rock music during the first ten years or what is commonly referred to as the 'first wave’. The book tells the story of how rock music in Australia grew from its early troubled beginnings to what it is today - readily accepted by society as a part of a thing called ‘pop culture’. It is as much about the people – the artists, the promoters, the generation of teenagers who ensured its survival and the adults who tried in vain to quell the revolution – as it is about the music. It also touches briefly on the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, Australian music scene during and after World War II, American entrepreneur Lee Gordon’s arrival in Australian and his impact on the local entertainment business and the birth of the ‘teenager’. Read all about the artists from the early pioneers of Alan Dale, Johnny O’Keefe and Col Joye to the early Sixties stars like The Atlantics, The Denvermen, Little Pattie and Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs.

Book The Peppermint Tea Chronicles

Download or read book The Peppermint Tea Chronicles written by Alexander McCall Smith and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest book in Alexander McCall Smith's popular 44 Scotland Street series is a sheer delight. Summer has come to Scotland Street. The long days have prompted its denizens to engage in flights of fancy. Some, like the Duke of Johannesburg’s plan to create a microlite seaplane, are literal flights, and some, like the vain Bruce Anderson’s idea of settling down with one of his many admirers, are more metaphorical. With the domineering Irene off pursuing academic challenges, Stuart and Bertie are free to indulge in summer fun. Stuart reconnects with an old acquaintance over refreshing peppermint tea while Bertie takes his friend Ranald Braveheart Macpherson to the circus. But their trip to the big top becomes rather more than the pleasant diversion they were hoping for. Once again, Scotland Street teems with the daily triumphs and challenges of those who call it home, and provides a warm, wise, and witty chronicle of the affairs in this corner of the world.
