This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Thoughts on the Coming and Kingdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ It is a cause for joy, that there arc so many things in religion in which God's people are agreed; while there is much reason to mourn, that there are still so many things about which they differ, and that at present the church is very far removed from any thing like unity of faith. The former shows the power of the Spirit of God, the latter the force of prejudice; for it is this principle which is the great bar to unity. May the Lord in mercy remove it; make us all willing to submit to his word; ready to unlearn what is wrong; and willing to give up every system or sentiment, however cherished, which will not bear the test of truth. It must be acknowledged, that against the sentiments advocated in the following pages, a strong tide of prejudice is running. These doctrines are, the pre-millennial coming of Christ: the first resurrection of the saints; their reigning with Christ on earth; the restoration, and future glory of the Jews; and the renovation of creation. Now it is well known, that many good people will scarcely hear these things mentioned; so strong is their prejudice. Could the author of the following pages believe that those who thus despise these views, and who also despise, or else pity those who advocate them, had dispassionately attended to their claims, and prayerfully studied God's word on this subject, unfettered by a system received from others, he would blot out the word prejudice, and supply its place with a softer word. But he cannot think that many who cry out against millenarianism have thus done; and therefore painfully feels that, in speaking or writing upon this subject, he has so great an enemy as prejudice to contend against. Still, he docs not question the sincerity of those who thus act, though he believes them to be sincerely wrong; neither is the existence of this difference, a draw-back upon Christian affection. No, wherever God's image is, there he would wish his love to rest: even though he sees not every sentiment he considers scriptural reflected in the mind of his fellow saint. Book The Coming Kingdom Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Coming Kingdom Classic Reprint written by C. A. Rominger and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Coming Kingdom It is the purpose of this little book to set forth, in Scripture language, as far as possible, a clear-cut distinction between the Church and the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus, the Christ. So few people seem to have grasped the real idea of the Kingdom, which is so clearly set forth in the Scriptures, that the author has been burdened for more than ten years with the need for such a work. John the Baptist came preaching, "Repent; for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." Jesus also preached the gospel of the Kingdom from the same text. So prominent was the thought of the Kingdom in the mind of our Lord that the word is used 124 times in the four gospels, whereas the word Church is used only 3 times. In the use of Scripture quotations, we shall use the Authorized, the Revised, and the American Revised versions, and Leeser's translation of the Old Testament. Aware of the fact that only a few readers will make the references to the Scriptures, where only the number of the chapter and verse is given, it is the plan of this book to embody the full text into the work. Let no one object to the length, or the number of the quotations given; for it is the opinion of the author that these will be the strength of the work. It is his purpose to put together in close connection all the Scriptures bearing directly and unmistakably on the subject in hand. We shall not hesitate either to use the same texts in different chapters as they bear on the thought in each chapter; for the same texts are pertinent to two, three, or even more thoughts; viz., the Kingdom, the King, the Throne, and the Nations. In the minds of many the Church and the Kingdom are synonymous terms. Indeed, that has been the teaching of the pulpit for many years, but they are essentially different, and must be so recognized or confusion follows, and the mind of the reader becomes clouded. Let each text have its most apparent meaning. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Kingdom of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Kingdom of God Classic Reprint written by Ian Maclaren and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of God When the forerunner's voice was stifled in the dungeon of Herod, Jesus caught up his word and preached the Utopia of John with a wider vision and sweeter note. The hereditary dream of the Jew passed through the soul of Jesus and was transformed. The local widened into the univer sal; the material was raised to the spiritual. A Jewish state with Jerusalem for its capital, and a greater David for its king, changed at the touch of Jesus into a moral kingdom whose throne should be in the heart and its borders coterminous with the race. The largeness of Jesus' mind is its glory and its misfortune. The magnificent conception was refused by His countrymen because their God was a national Deity; it has been too often re duced by His disciples because they have no hori zon. They have been apt to think that Christian ity is an extremely clever scheme by which a lim ited number of souls will secure Heaven - a rocket apparatus for a shipwrecked crew. Perhaps there fore outside people should be excused for speaking of Christianity as a system of the higher selfish ness, because they have some grounds for their misunderstanding. Every one ought to read Jesus' own words and he'would find that Jesus did not live and die to afford select Pharisees an immunity from the burden of their fellow men, but to found a Kingdom that would be the salvation of the world. Book The Theocratic Kingdom Lord Jesus the Christ Vol 1

Download or read book The Theocratic Kingdom Lord Jesus the Christ Vol 1 written by Geo N. H. Peters and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-24 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theocratic Kingdom Lord Jesus, the Christ, Vol. 1: As Covenanted in the Old Testament, and Presented in the New Testament IN this work it is proposed to show what the Covenants demand, and what relationship the second coming, kingdom, and glory of The Christ sustains to the same, in order that perfected Redemption may be realized. This, logically, introduces a large amount of converging testimony. The history of the human race is, as able theologians have remarked, the history of God's dealings with man. It is a fulfilling of revelation; yea, more: it is an unfolding of the ways of God, a comprehensive confirmation of, and an appointed aid, in interpreting the plan of redemp tion. Hence God himself appeals to it, not merely as the evidence of the truth declared, but as the mode by which we alone can obtain a full and complete view of the Divine purpose relating to salvation. To do this we must, however, regard past, present, and future history. The latter must be received as predicted, for we may rest assured, from the past and present fulfilment 'of the word of God, thus changed into historical reality, that the predictions and promises relating to the future will also in their turn become veritable history. It is this faith, which grasps the future as already present, that can form a decided and unmistakable unity. And there was given Him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages, should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and Hi; Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Download or read book The Theocratic Kingdom of Our Lord Jesus the Christ Vol 3 written by George Nathaniel Henry Peters and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theocratic Kingdom of Our Lord Jesus, the Christ, Vol. 3: As Covenanted in the Old Testament and Presented in the New Testament This already appears from (lie contemplated cessation of all Gentile domination, the complete overthrew of all kingdoms and states, and the bringing of all nations directly (by the rule of the saints, etc.) under tile one great central Theocratic authority. For, whatever purposes the institution of human government, in the past and the present dispensation, may subserve, it is distinctly announced that so much of imperfection and evil is attached to it in all its varied forms that it is incompatible with the new order of things which shall be presented in "the age to come." Obs. 1. In the consideration of this subject men have been apt to rush to extremes, presenting conclusions which are not warranted by Scripture. One party lands and magnifies human government, as it has existed and now exists, as a Divine institution, speaking loudly of "the divine rights of kings," or of "the sovereignty of the people," etc. - so numerous writers of the past and present. Another party, only regarding the threats, etc., against such government, and misapprehending the time, manner, etc., of God's kingdom to replace it, undertake to break down such government by substituting one of their own; so the Anabaptists, Fifth Monarchy Men, in the days of the Reformation, the Mormons, etc. Still another party so decry all human government, that they insist upon it, that it is the duty of believers to avoid having any personal connection with them in any official capacity, or in upholding them in any form as a participator; so e.g. Quakers, Christadelphians. some Adventists, Seventh Day baptists, etc. We avoid all such extravagant deductions by allowing the Scriptures to testify to three things pertaining to human government, viz., (1) its necessity; (2) its character; (3) its ultimato destiny.
