This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of God, or Reign of Heaven Among Men The law in hermeneutics The Unity of Truth has been fully recognised and it is the greatest joy to see all Scripture, whether in the Old or New Testament, that bears upon this theme brought into complete harmony. Every verse has been given its most obvious meaning; for most certainly the Lord knows how to express truth in the clearest way and He means what He says, and says exactly what He desired to say; and all twisting or strain ing of the Scriptures is insulting to God. Beware of the commentator who magnifies obscure truths, putting them in a place of great promlnence. God's light is not put under a bushel waiting for some visionary to lift it Off. AS it is absolutely necessary for a surveyor to find first his beginning corner before he runs his lines, so it is just as essential for a student to find the beginning of God's kingdom, that John and Jesus proclaimed to be at hand, before he can understand the purpose, nature or place of the kingdom of God in the earth. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of God: Studies From the View-Point of "Our Father" About twenty years ago the author conceived the idea that there must be a theory of religion (which is only another name for. A true life) that will commend itself to the judgment, and receive the approval, of every candid, reasonable Bible student - a theory on which all Christians can and will conscientiously unite. To suppose the contrary is to impeach both the wisdom and goodness of the omniscient and most loving of all fathers. Since He gave us the Bible as a revelation of truth, both respecting Himself and our relations to Him and to one another, and the duties that grow out of those relations, on its pages such a theory must be found. We must remember, however, that the Bible is what the inspiring, Spirit intended to teach; not what sectarian bigots have claimed to find there. Book The Kingdom of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Kingdom of God Classic Reprint written by Ian Maclaren and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kingdom of God When the forerunner's voice was stifled in the dungeon of Herod, Jesus caught up his word and preached the Utopia of John with a wider vision and sweeter note. The hereditary dream of the Jew passed through the soul of Jesus and was transformed. The local widened into the univer sal; the material was raised to the spiritual. A Jewish state with Jerusalem for its capital, and a greater David for its king, changed at the touch of Jesus into a moral kingdom whose throne should be in the heart and its borders coterminous with the race. The largeness of Jesus' mind is its glory and its misfortune. The magnificent conception was refused by His countrymen because their God was a national Deity; it has been too often re duced by His disciples because they have no hori zon. They have been apt to think that Christian ity is an extremely clever scheme by which a lim ited number of souls will secure Heaven - a rocket apparatus for a shipwrecked crew. Perhaps there fore outside people should be excused for speaking of Christianity as a system of the higher selfish ness, because they have some grounds for their misunderstanding. Every one ought to read Jesus' own words and he'would find that Jesus did not live and die to afford select Pharisees an immunity from the burden of their fellow men, but to found a Kingdom that would be the salvation of the world. It is time to recognize that its solution lies not in bio logical analogies, not in the exaltation of the State at the expense of the individual, nor again in the destruction of government, but in that gospel of the Kingdom of God which means the realization of certain ideals at once through social relations and through the highest and fullest development of personality. Book The Growth of the Kingdom of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Growth of the Kingdom of God Classic Reprint written by Sidney L. Gulick and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Growth of the Kingdom of God A satisfactory treatment would require many months of closet application and an entire volume for the presentation of the evidence. In spite of the comparative length of the chapter, he does not pretend to have treated the subject in any exhaustive way. Indeed, this may be said with equal truth of the whole book. Rather than a minute examination of the facts, he has sought to take a bird's-eye view of the outstanding features, the more conspicuous movements and growth of Christianity. The primary purpose, the Japanese audience, and the practical, rather than the theoretical interest and aim of the book, will thus account for certain of its features, which, if produced under different circumstances, it might not have had. Its value, however, may possibly be increased rather than diminished by these factors and features. His indebtedness to various writers and his sources of information are sufficiently indicated in the course of the successive chapters. His thanks are due to personal friends and kindred who have rendered very material assistance in the forms of stimulus, suggestions, and correction of the manuscript. The defects incident to the attempt to cover so much ground in a single brief work, none realise more than the author. Among such a mass of statistics, errors are inevitable. None will be more glad than the writer to have such pointed out and corrected. That this volume may find its niche of usefulness, and may help onward the growth of the Kingdom, is the one desire of its author. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The King and the Kingdom: A Study of the Four Gospels Jesus were actually true. Supposing them to be so, he could not do a wiser thing than submit them to the test of public criticism. His brethren themselves were not only unsympathetic, but unbeliev'ing. For even his brethren did not believe on him.' There is nothing wonderful in that. None believed in him, who did not care to listen to him, who were not moved by his words, or who had not enough of faith to accept facts vouched by others, or of interest to go and see and judge for themselves.
