Book excerpt: Many believe Satan was once a lovely angel that rebelled against God and was cast down upon our earth. Ever wonder why God created the devil so we would need a savior? Surely if an angel could be tempted, what on earth will happen to some of us? And…if Satan lived in heaven, who tempted him? How did he become unholy? Why did he have the choice to rebel when other holy beings did not? And finally, when we get to heaven will we have that choice, too? Satan is evil and we all know it. After two thousand years, he is still trying to drag people down with him. His master plan is built on deception, and he has done a fair job at it. Millions believe that rebellion, meanness, and doing evil are acceptable in this age of open-mindedness and technology. He has even changed the doctrines of churches everywhere. Popular doctrines have been accepted as fact, but are they the true doctrines? Is it easier to accept them and go on with your life, or are you bold enough to stand up to the challenge of studying the Scriptures to find out the truth?

Book Beyond Testimony and Trauma

Download or read book Beyond Testimony and Trauma written by Steven High and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2015-03-15 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Survivors of terrible events are often portrayed as unsung heroes or tragic victims but rarely as complex human beings whose lives extend beyond the stories they have told. Beyond Testimony and Trauma considers other ways to engage with survivors and their accounts based on insights gained from long-term oral history projects in a variety of contexts, including factory closures, industrial injury, eugenics and forced sterilization, the Holocaust, genocide in Rwanda and Cambodia, Argentinian torture camps, the Yugoslav Wars, and Jewish emigration from the Maghreb. The contributors, all innovators in the field of oral history, include Henry Greenspan who provides reflections from forty years of listening to Holocaust survivors as well as an insightful afterword. They demonstrate that – through deep listening, long-term relationship building, and collaborative research design – it is possible to move beyond the problematic aspects of “testimony” to shine light on the more nuanced lives of survivors of mass violence. In the process, they offer alternative approaches to the collection of oral history that will shake the foundations of current historiographical practice.

Book The Life and Teachings of Jesus

Download or read book The Life and Teachings of Jesus written by Preston Thomas and published by Center for Quality Education (CQE). This book was released on 2013-03-31 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a restatement of the life and teachings of Jesus as recorded in the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Like an earlier effort by Thomas Jefferson, who produced The Jefferson Bible in the early 1800's, its purpose is to distill from the Scriptures only those verses truly portraying the life and teachings of Jesus. Each major event in his life is treated individually, and then arranged in chronological order. Thus, it presents the story of Jesus as it actually took place, from birth through death and resurrection. This format promotes a better understanding of Jesus' real life and original gospel of the kingdom. Helpful explanatory notes are generously supplied. An exhaustive index is included so that readers can easily find what Jesus said concerning any topic. It also provides a listing of Jesus' parables, miracles, and teachings that outline his philosophy of living.

Book Readings on Igala People Land and Language

Download or read book Readings on Igala People Land and Language written by Idris Ejima Aruwa and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-02-23 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive history of the Igala kingdom (Kogi state, Nigeria), people, land and language based on the study of the oral traditions, cultural practices, articles, published and unpublished works on Igala history. It is a compendium of the history of the Igala people from the Pre-16th century to the present day using the Igala cultural and rituals practices as evidence of historical events. It is a scholarly work on the chronology of the events that led to the establishment of the present dynastic monarchy in Igala land and the creation of the Igala kingdom which became the greatest pre-colonial kingdom in the River Niger-Benue confluence area in Nigeria, with its influence on the cultural, political and commercial developments on the northern Igbo country and along the River Niger down to the Niger-Delta area. The chronology was discussed under three main eras; the Pre-Dynastic Monarchy Era, the Proto-Dynastic Monarchy Era and The Dynastic Monarchy Era. The events that took place in each of these eras were extensively reported. The book illustrates the cultural leadership development of the autochthonous Igala clans, the Benin vassal Aji-Ata dynasty, the Achadu clan and the Empire building escapades of Ayegba oma Idoko starting from his progenitor “Abutu-Ejeh” breakaway from the ancient Jukun led Kwararafa Kingdom. Other subjects discussed include; the real history behind the sacrifice of Princess Inikpi and Oma-Odoko, the funeral rites and coronation rituals for the Ata-Igala and the origin of the name “Igala”. This book is recommended for students of history and those who want to enrich their knowledge on Igala, people, land, language and other related cultural matters.

Book excerpt: Millions of Christians pray daily for the coming of the Kingdom of God: Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The Baha'i Faith makes the astounding claim that the promises of the coming of the Kingdom found in the New Testament have already been fulfilled. The Kingdom is at hand, and the Will of God is even now being worked out on earth. In this new edition that expands and clarifies original content, one Baha'i offers the proof. Carefully, reviewing the prophecies that are found in the Bible, the author presents all the signs that should accompany the coming of a New Day. His startling and original interpretation of familiar verses argues persuasively that three divine calls have been made since the coming of Christ. The readers attention is brought again and again to the number three in the New Testament, referring to the warnings and judgments of God.This is a serious and scholarly book. The author quotes extensively from the Bible and from the Baha'i Sacred Scriptures. Christians and Baha'is will be amazed at the level of detail the Bible provides in helping us understand the Baha'i Revelation and the spirit of our times.
