Book The Best Australian Bush Stories

Download or read book The Best Australian Bush Stories written by Jim Haynes and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories that take us from the Mallee to the back of Bourke and beyond, an indispensable collection about the enduring appeal of the Australian bush. Australia's national character and spirit have always been defined, rightly or wrongly, by 'the bush'. This entertaining, thought-provoking, humorous, nostalgic and, above all, highly readable collection of stories for the modern reader shows why the romance endures. From Jim Haynes, one of our most successful and prolific Australiana authors, comes a collection of classic and iconic stories from the remote outback, cattle station, wheat farm and rural town. The bush is where our iconic characters are found living in, taking refuge or exploring, whether an Aborigine, explorer, squatter, bushranger or stockman. Here are the big names of Australian bush writing and the lesser known writers who have been forgotten, but whose reputations are long overdue for revival. Enjoy these bush gems by Henry Lawson, Marcus Clarke, Banjo Paterson, Henry Handel Richardson, Steele Rudd, Kenneth Cook, Brian James, EO Schlunke, AC McCay, D'Arcy Niland and more.

Our overseas visitors must know the extreme heat in Australia must be addressed and how cold it becomes in our winters. Through Fire Flood and Drought this great country somehow survives, but we do need to address the SPF 30 plus warnings and SLIP SLOP SLAP all the time for our Melanoma cancer rate is sadly the highest in the world. Book Beyond Words

Download or read book Beyond Words written by Jacqueline Kent and published by Univ. of Queensland Press. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1985 Jacqueline Kent was content with her life. She had a satisfying career as a freelance book editor, and was emerging as a writer. Living and working alone, she relished her independence. But then she met Kenneth Cook, author of the Australian classic Wake in Fright, and they fell in love. With bewildering speed Jacqueline found herself in alien territory: with a man almost twenty years older, whose life experience could not have been more different from her own. She had to come to terms with complicated finances and expectations, and to negotiate relationships with Ken’s children, four people almost her own age. But with this man of contradictions – funny and sad, headstrong and tender – she found real and sustaining companionship. Their life together was often joyful, sometimes enraging, always exciting – until one devastating evening. But, as Jacqueline discovered, even when a story is over that doesn’t mean it has come to an end.
