Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kansas University Science Bulletin, Vol. 12 The first attempt to make a list of the Cicadellidx of Kansas seems to have been made by Professor E. A. Popenoe, who in 1885, in the Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science, vol. IX, p.63, listed a few of the members of this family that he had personally collected in the two preceding years. Nothing more seems to have been done along this line till the year 1905, when there appeared a list of the Kansas species in the Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science, vol. XIX, p.235, by Mr. F.F. Crevecreur, in which some eighty species and varieties were reported, nearly if not all of them taken by himself, within a few miles of his home at Onaga, Kan. He was followed by Mr. E.S. Tucker, who in 1906, in vol. XX, part 2, p. 192, of the same publication, added twenty-three species to Mr. Crevecceur slist, all of these species being taken in Douglas county. A fourth list was published in 1907 by the same writer in the Kansas University Science Bulletin, vol. IV, p. 65, where were listed the species taken by him in Douglas and Sedgwick counties. And finally, in 1911, there appeared a complete list of all the Cicadellidss taken in the state to date, by Mr.S. E.Crumb, who published his list, along with available host plant records, in the Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science, vol. XXIV, p.232. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The University of Kansas Science Bulletin, Vol. 1 The column headed Date refers to the number of days between birth of the litter and the time of sacrifice. The column headed Type gives reference to either experimental or control animals. The succeeding columns are self explanatory and give both the average and the range. The range is the actual raw data of the two animals used in each age group. The red counts, white counts and platelet counts are based on cells per mm3. The differential and normoblast counts are based on 100 counted leukocytes. Those spaces which are blank under range indicate that there was no range, either due to inability to get the count, or due to the absence of that cell type. Those which are blank under average indicate that it was impossible to get a count. The weights Of the 45 and 52-day control animals were not taken. Download or read book The Kansas University Science Bulletin Vol 8 written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kansas University Science Bulletin, Vol. 8: Devoted to the Publication of the Results of Research by Members of the University of Kansas This, the second entomology number of this Journal, is introduced by an account and bibliography of the work of the department of entomology of the University of Kansas. The volume itself is intended as a tribute, in a small measure, to the work of the founder of the department. Doctor Snow, a member of the faculty of the University of Kansas from the foundation of the University, was for many years professor of natural history, and his impress, especially on the museum side, on so many branches of this subject, is such that those who are now going over his work marvel at the wonderful capacity of the man. He was, as well, a great, desirable teacher. Entomology is very early shown to have been his favorite branch. It is especially fitting that the accomplishments in his favorite work should be recorded, and it seems best to present these chronologically. The scope and activity of the department of entomology of the University of Kansas is therefore probably best shown by a transcript from the records of the department giving the work accomplished and official publications issued.
