The theme was 'breakthrough economic growth: an action plan'. Policymakers focus on achievements of the immediate past and strategies and actions, both short and long term, to achieve sustainable and private sector-led economic growth which will deliver the so-called democracy dividend, and thus sustain Nigeria's nascent democracy. The summit also identifies legal and administrative institutional bottlenecks requiring reform in order to attract foreign investment. Download or read book An Index to Common Law Festschriften written by Michael Taggart and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2006-09-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first ever index of contributions to common law Festschriften and fills a serious bibliographic gap in the literature of the common law. The German word Festschrift is now the universally accepted term in the academy for a published collection of legal essays written by several authors to honour a distinguished jurist or to mark a significant legal event. The number of Festschriften honouring common lawyers has increased enormously in the last thirty years. Until now, the numerous scholarly contributions to these volumes have not been adequately indexed. This Index fills that bibliographic gap. The entries included in this work refer to some 296 common law Festschriften indexed by author, subject keyword, editor, title, honorand and date. It therefore includes over 5,000 chapter entries. In addition, there are more than a thousand entries of English language contributions to predominantly foreign language, non-common law legal Festschriften from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Download or read book The African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights written by U. Oji Umozurike and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an in-depth study of the African Charter of Human and Peoples' Rights, written with the insight of an insider. It assesses the effectiveness of the Charter and of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights in its formative years. It also compares the Charter with other major human rights instruments. The author asserts that respect for human rights made the existence of African societies possible despite the eras of gross violation. The survival of African societies, indeed their continued development, depends on respect for human rights. While conceding the universality of human rights, the author underscores African specificities and pecularities. He discusses the proper limits of `exclusively internal matters', as often claimed by African spokesmen, and puts forward the legitimate concerns of the international community as an effective check to arbitrariness and other violations. The book will be of special interest to international lawyers, law students, the judiciary and foreign office officials. The human rights activist will find it particularly useful in dealing with the African situation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolving environmental justice paradigm is conceptualized differently based on political, economic and historical factors. In developed countries, emphasis is placed on the role of individuals in environmental decision-making and the protection of their access to the prerequisite environmental information and capacity to challenge environmental decisions is the main focus. However, in developing countries, access to land and natural resources are considered integral elements of environmental justice paradigm. This book focuses on the conceptualization, recognition and protection of environmental justice in developing countries. It explores the situation by engaging an analytical discourse of relevant legal provisions in four case study countries including Nigeria, South Africa, India and Papua New Guinea. The comparative analysis of environmental justice in these countries present a framework within which to appreciate the conceptualization of the environmental justice paradigm

The kpim of Social Order boldly captures such ideas and questions for awareness through critical thinking. The current volume in the Kpim Book Series makes the point that for a systematic analysis and significance of Social Order to be attained, we need to ask, What is the kpim or central core of Social Order of things? Where does the deepest layer, notion, symbolism, reality and application of social order, programs, human rights, institutions, communities, diplomacy, uprising, social asset, social power, policy action, inter-culturalism, global forces and all else lie? How can we reach and understand the innermost part of Social Order in the modern world? Download or read book Elements of Cabotage Law in Nigeria written by Obafemi Ademola Adekola and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-03-07 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough examination of the recent economic (mis-)fortunes of Nigeria, the so-called giant of Africa, would reveal the unrealistic economic practice of depending on one major resource to fund the running of government, economic growth, and infrastructural development. This impractical approach to the management of the economy is magnified by the fact that Nigeria, as a country, is put in a precarious situation whenever there is a temporal or permanent price decline in the global crude oil market as this automatically translates to a reduction of the revenue available to government. This work is an attempt to present discussions into developing a Long-term and Strategic Economic Development Module for all regions and government in Nigeria. It is aimed at exposing Nigeria and Nigerians to the numerous benefits accruable in the development of its indigenous maritime economy. An attempt is made here to empirically rationalize the diversification of the Nigerian economy with its recent cabotage policies forming the foundation of an economy that emphasizes on shipping and associated mining and agricultural industries for the majority of its revenue. In order to justify this position, we undertake a careful analysis of the business histories of credible shipping companies like the precolonial Elder Dempster line and also the fast-growing Chinese auto manufacturing industries with a view to magnify their successes worthy of emulation. We have also compared some aspects of the US internal maritime structure with that of Nigeria and have exposed the practice of Japan in developing regions through the establishment of sea ports. It is intended that this book would serve as a personal and patriotic contribution to the Heads of Government as they strategize the reestablishment of Nigeria as the brightest investment destination in the global economic horizon in a bid to spark the recognition of our great nation as an emerging giant in the World Economic Order.
