Book excerpt: *Shortlisted for a 2017 RoNA Award* With her whole life ahead of her, beautiful young Grace’s world changes forever when she’s married off to a much older judge. Soon, feeling lonely and neglected, Grace meets and falls in love with an Indian doctor, Vikram—he’s charming, thoughtful, and kind, everything her husband is not. But this is 1950s Ireland, and when she falls pregnant, the potential scandal must be dealt with. As soon as she has given birth, Grace is sent to an asylum by the judge, while Vikram, told that Grace died in childbirth, returns to India heartbroken. Thirty years later, after the judge’s death, his estranged daughter Emma returns home to pack up his estate, where she finds Grace’s diaries and begins to piece together the life of the mother she never knew. Meanwhile, Vikram is planning a long-awaited return to Ireland with his much-loved niece Rosa—who has grown up hearing all about her uncle’s long-lost love—to stand, at last, at the grave of the woman he adores. When the judge’s will is finally read, revealing he has sent letters to Vikram and Emma, the deception spanning both decades and continents finally begins to unravel, exposing long-buried family secrets along the way and raising the question of if true love can last a lifetime.

Book excerpt: Donna was the Judges wife. She was my mentor and lover while I lived in Las Vegas. She was connected to people that ran the city. They were powerful and rich. At fourteen years old I'd seen a lot, some good and a lot of bad. My Drama teacher, Miss Roberts and the girls gym teacher Shirley, selected me to do a sports endurance test. I had no idea what their requirements of me would entail! As she went into the class room she turned to me and gave me a smile and a wink; I'd seen that smile and wink before. I was older and street smart. Even though I was just fifteen; I knew when a woman wanted me. She looked like a young Barbara Eden, from the show, I Dream of Jeanie. Mrs. Wilkins was a Beautiful and classy lady, with a walk that expressed confidence and grace. I guessed her age to be in her late thirties. If she hadn't had her daughter there, I'd thought she was in her late twenties. It was our turn to see the teacher. On her way out Mrs. Wilkins slipped me her card and said "I'm a modeling agent, call me." I thanked her for the card and went in to my classroom with my mom. So why do they call you the Vegas flash?" I told her it was a nickname given to me by my coaches. "I'd come from Vegas and I have fast moves. I do like the title and work hard to live up to it." "Fast moves, huh, do you want to try any of your moves on me?" She said with a seductive smile. "What about Mr. Wilkins, what would he say?" She popped her chest out and replied, "I live my own life; he stays up north most the time with his business. We are legally separated and have an open relationship. He comes and visits me every once and awhile. If you know what I mean" She was confident, independent, and wealthy, very similar to the Judges wife. I could understand why I was attracted to her. She was everything that Donna was when she'd seduced me. Tara was definitely a cougar luring me into her den. "I told her I have a girl friend, and was she okay with that?" She shared with me that she knew that from her daughter. "I need to tell you something, she said. The time you and your girl friend Beth, thought you were alone in the girls' locker room. Well, my daughter was hiding in there. You guys walked in on her and she got scared and hid. She told me about everything that went on in there. I had to have a talk with her about the birds and the bees, if you know what I mean. But don't worry, my daughter won't tell on you, however I do want you to show me some of your magic," as she unbuttoned her blouse. "No worries cutie pie, I wouldn't tell anybody about us or the shower scene at the school. Maybe we can make an agreement for my silence." I asked her, "Tell anybody what? Are you trying to blackmail me? Are we about to do something that we'd have to keep it a secret?" She smiled and then unzipped her skirt. It dropped to the floor. She was braless and her blouse was unbuttoned; I could see her erected nipples. Perfect breast, her body was built for sex. Tina was wearing pretty blue laced panties. "Come on stud," and she walked toward the bedroom. I focused on her beautiful ass as she walked away. Oh she looked good. I thought about it, I'm going to ride that beautiful women.
