Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dieter Grimm's accessible introduction to the concept of sovereignty ties the evolution of the idea to historical events, from the religious conflicts of sixteenth-century Europe to today's trends in globalization and transnational institutions. Grimm wonders whether recent political changes have undermined notions of national sovereignty, comparing manifestations of the concept in different parts of the world. Geared for classroom use, the study maps various notions of sovereignty in relation to the people, the nation, the state, and the federation, distinguishing between internal and external types of sovereignty. Grimm's book will appeal to political theorists and cultural-studies scholars and to readers interested in the role of charisma, power, originality, and individuality in political rule.

Book excerpt: Every man is born with just one thing: his sovereignty?his power to respond to his environment and his circumstances.Unfortunately, most men have spent much of their lives giving away that sovereignty. Every time a man passes blame or shirks his responsibility, every time he makes excuses for his performance, and every time he trades his unlimited potential for a little perceived safety and security, he willingly submits himself to the mercy of others. Is it any wonder that men, in general, seem to have lost their way? You don't have to look very far to recognize that men don't seem to possess the same amount of vigor and purpose they once did. Take one sobering statistic?the rate of suicide in men?and you begin to see how damaging the effects of the voluntary subjugation of men to their families, their businesses, and their governments can be.It's not hard to understand why we give up control to others?it's easy and we're expected to. Sovereignty: The Battle for the Hearts and Minds of Men is a call for men to once again rise up and establish themselves as they once were?a revolution if you will.Inside the pages of this book, we'll uncover the battle each man will inevitably engage in, the external forces fighting against the call to masculinity, and the internal struggle all men must overcome. But make no mistake, this revolution is not a call for men to go their own way and rally against society. It's a call for men to become fully the men they are meant to be so they may more adequately take care of themselves and those they are responsible for. Men have always been expected to protect, provide, and preside over themselves, their families, their businesses, and their communities. By embodying the thirteen Sovereign Virtues we detail inside, every man will be more capable of fulfilling his masculine duties and responsibilities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a straightforward, clearly written book dispelling the notion that election and predestination are cold, austere doctrines from the mind of John Calvin. The author conclusively shows that these doctrines of grace are alive, vital and are the very heart of the Gospel itself. Explore useful practical applications of what is often thought of as purely theological matters. Experience the comfort of God's sovereign grace in daily life, here and now. Gain new insights into that paradox of God's sovereignty and yet our sense of freedom of choice and responsibility. Tackle knotty problems, such as, "Why bother evangelizing if election guarantees salvation for the elect?" By compelling and engaging reason, Arthur Custance points out the inconsistencies in the Arminian position (as well as others) and the undeniable necessity of embracing the doctrines known as Calvinism.--Publisher's description.

Book The Road To Sovereignty

Download or read book The Road To Sovereignty written by Alhassan Maliba and published by Alhassan Maliba . This book was released on 2024-05-25 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa is the birthplace of humanity, where our earliest ancestors roamed and crafted the first tools. Even as humans migrated away, we never fully left behind our connection to this continent. Throughout history, people have lived and thrived in Africa, leaving traces of their presence in places like the Sahara Desert and along major rivers like the Nile and Niger. It's in Africa that some of the earliest advanced civilizations emerged, offering a glimpse into the diverse kingdoms and societies of ancient times. Egypt served as a primary hub of knowledge for numerous neighboring kingdoms that were equally prosperous and advanced. However, over time, these kingdoms were forgotten as other civilizations and empires rose to prominence across the continent. It's only in recent years that we're rediscovering the significance of kingdoms like Aksum, the political strength of Kush, and the wealth of the enigmatic Punt. Similarly, ongoing research is shedding light on the medieval kingdoms of Ghana and Mali, celebrated for their distinct pre-Muslim cultures and their interpretations of Islam. The goal of this series is to outline the history of Modern Europe, along with its main colonies and conquests, from the late fifteenth century up to the present day in Ghana. In some cases, the narrative may begin at an earlier time, but for colonies, it typically starts later. Each country's history is usually discussed separately to better understand the connection of events and display the continuity of historical development, except during periods like the French Revolution and Napoleon I. The series aims to be useful for anyone interested in understanding current political conditions, as it believes that understanding the past is essential for grasping contemporary events. By delving into the historical causes behind present circumstances, the series hopes to offer detailed insights into the last four centuries, incorporating significant findings from modern research. It's intended to benefit both beginners and students already familiar with African and European h istory.

Book Living in Indigenous Sovereignty

Download or read book Living in Indigenous Sovereignty written by Elizabeth Carlson-Manathara and published by Fernwood Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-15T00:00:00Z with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, the relationship between settler Canadians and Indigenous Peoples has been highlighted by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the Idle No More movement, the Wet’suwet’en struggle against pipeline development and other Indigenous-led struggles for Indigenous sovereignty and decolonization. Increasing numbers of Canadians are beginning to recognize how settler colonialism continues to shape relationships on these lands. With this recognition comes the question many settler Canadians are now asking, what can I do? Living in Indigenous Sovereignty lifts up the wisdom of Indigenous scholars, activists and knowledge keepers who speak pointedly to what they are asking of non-Indigenous people. It also shares the experiences of thirteen white settler Canadians who are deeply engaged in solidarity work with Indigenous Peoples. Together, these stories offer inspiration and guidance for settler Canadians who wish to live honourably in relationship with Indigenous Peoples, laws and lands. If Canadians truly want to achieve this goal, Carlson and Rowe argue, they will pursue a reorientation of their lives toward “living in Indigenous sovereignty” — living in an awareness that these are Indigenous lands, containing relationships, laws, protocols, stories, obligations and opportunities that have been understood and practised by Indigenous peoples since time immemorial. Collectively, these stories will help settler Canadians understand what transformations we must undertake if we are to fundamentally shift our current relations and find a new way forward, together. Download or read book Sovereignty in China written by Maria Adele Carrai and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-08 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive history of the emergence and the formation of the concept of sovereignty in China from the year 1840 to the present. It contributes to broadening the history of modern China by looking at the way the notion of sovereignty was gradually articulated by key Chinese intellectuals, diplomats and political figures in the unfolding of the history of international law in China, rehabilitates Chinese agency, and shows how China challenged Western Eurocentric assumptions about the progress of international law. It puts the history of international law in a global perspective, interrogating the widely-held belief of international law as universal order and exploring the ways in which its history is closely anchored to a European experience that fails to take into account how the encounter with other non-European realities has influenced its formation.

As the hand of this evil is raised to strike and destroy them they must rely on their faith in the abiding power of love to overcome all and lead them to sovereignty. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devotional Sovereignty: Kingship and Religion in India investigates the shifting conceptualization of sovereignty in the South Indian kingdom of Mysore during the reigns of Tipu Sultan (r. 1782-1799) and Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (r. 1799-1868). Tipu Sultan was a Muslim king famous for resisting British dominance until his death; Krishnaraja III was a Hindu king who succumbed to British political and administrative control. Despite their differences, the courts of both kings dealt with the changing political landscape by turning to the religious and mythical past to construct a royal identity for their kings. Caleb Simmons explores the ways in which these two kings and their courts modified and adapted pre-modern Indian notions of sovereignty and kingship in reaction to British intervention. The religious past provided an idiom through which the Mysore courts could articulate their rulers' claims to kingship in the region, attributing their rule to divine election and employing religious vocabulary in a variety of courtly genres and media. Through critical inquiry into the transitional early colonial period, this study sheds new light on pre-modern and modern India, with implications for our understanding of contemporary politics. It offers a revisionist history of the accepted narrative in which Tipu Sultan is viewed as a radical Muslim reformer and Krishnaraja III as a powerless British puppet. Simmons paints a picture of both rulers in which they work within and from the same understanding of kingship, utilizing devotion to Hindu gods, goddesses, and gurus to perform the duties of the king.
