Book Secret Instructions of the Jesuits

Download or read book Secret Instructions of the Jesuits written by and published by . This book was released on 1857 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the Secret Instructions of the Jesuits includes both the original Latin text and the translation of its chapters into English. The chapters include various methods by which the Society of Jesus are to gain influence. The manual covers all manner of aspects; recruiting men for the order, how to acquire wealth for the order, and gaining rank and influence in the wider Catholic church. Known also as the Monita Secreta, the document was purported to have originated from the office of Claudio Acquaviva, who was the Fifth Superior General of the Society of Jesus. With time and analysis, modern scholars generally agree that the Secret Instructions are a forgery. However, the exacting detail with which they are written led settles to assume the text was authored by Jerome Zahorowski, a disgruntled former Jesuit expelled from the order for misconduct in 1613. Over the centuries, various translations and editions appeared, which kept the Instructions in public view. In opposition to their content, encyclopedist John Gerard pointed out that many private notes and letters between Jesuits have found their way into the public domain; their contents directly contradict the Secret Instructions.

Download or read book The Doctrine of the Jesuits Classic Reprint written by Paul Bert and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Doctrine of the Jesuits The members of the Society are dispersed in every corner of the world, and divided into as many nations and kingdoms as the earth has limits: division, however, marked only by the distance of places, not of sentiments; by the difference of languages, not of affection; by the dissemblance of faces, not of manners. In that family the Latin thinks as the Greek, the Portuguese as the Brazilian, the Hibernian as the Sumatran, the Spaniard as the French, the English as the Flemish; and amongst so many different geniuses, no controversy, no contention; nothing which gives you a hint to perceive that they are more than One... Their birthplace offers them no motive of personal interest... Same aim, same conduct, same vow, which like a conjugal knot has tied them together... At the least sign, one man turns and returns the entire Society, and shapes the revolution of so large a body. It is easy to move, but difficult to shake. Imago primi s culi Societatis Jesu; published with the authorization of Mutio Vitelleschi, General; 1640. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Secret Instructions of the Jesuits: Faithfully Translated From the Latin of an Old Genuine London Copy, With an Historical Sketch, &C. &C "Swear - forswear - and the truth deny!" "Jura, perjura, veritatemque denega!" Jesuit maxim. The Society of the Jesuits was founded in 1540, just eleven years after the Christian church had come out of the Roman sect, and assumed the name of Protestants. The singular originator of the new order, was Ignatius Loyola, a native of Biscay. He had, when a soldier, received a severe wound in the service of Ferdinand V. of Spain in 1521; and he had been long confined in a place where he had access, probably, to no other books than The Lives of the Saints, It is not to be wondered at that his mind was thence turned away from military enthusiasm, to ghostly fanaticism. When recovered, he speedily gave proofs of his insane fanaticism by assuming the name and office of "Knight of the Virgin Mary." And like a good type of the future Don Quixote, he pursued with solemn gravity, a course of the wildest and most extravagant adventures; in the belief that he was her most exalted favourite. Having conceived the plan of a new monastic order, he submitted the constitution thereof, to Pope Paul III. Book excerpt: This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1883 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER IV. THE DEVELOPMENT OF CATHOLICISM INTO JESUITISM; OE, THE JESUIT PAPAL INFALLIBILITY. In the foregoing chapter we have spoken of the extraordinary extension of the Order of Jesus during the first half of the 19th century, and have examined the way in which the Society employed its freshly-acquired power, so that all thinking people must consider the proposition to be firmly established that " the Jesuits remain the same as of old." But with this the Fathers are far from being satisfied, their great aim and object being still " the most complete sway over Church and State." In the Church it has reached as far as this, that the Jesuitical tendency has become sole and unconditional mistress; that only those make use of the name Catholic who think, believe, and act as the Jesuits wish them to think, believe, and act; that Jesuitism and Catholicism signify one and the same thing; in short, that these words are synonymous terms. In and out of the State, however, all that is antagonistic to Jesuit principles and Jesuit views and teachings has to disappear, even, it may be said, the very State itself. Thus, all the different kingdoms and principalities of Catholic Christendom must have nothing but Jesuit principles, morals, and religion, nothing but Jesuit dictates as to marringe and instruction, nought being left to them but to carry out most humbly Jesuit decrees against anti-Catholics. But, naturally, the Fathers are unable to conceal from themselves that to obtain such power will cost a tolerably severe contest, and they are unwilling to open this struggle thoughtlessly. No; the strife must not commence till they are properly armed; and they may venture to make themselves certain of victory by virtue of their powerful position....
