Download or read book The Japan Christian Yearbook 1964 written by Gordon K. Chapman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-27 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Japan Christian Yearbook, 1964: A Survey of the Christian Movement in Japan During 1963 Except where otherwise indicated, the respective writers of the articles are alone responsible for the views expressed. Their Opinions doubtless represent earnest convictions and as such are worthy of expres sion. It will doubtless be noted that this issue con tains some reference to non-christian or quasi-christian groups. It should be clearly understood that this is solely by way of record and in no sense an endorse ment of views which are an aberration from the verities of the Christian faith. In order to facilitate ready reference, the usual Report section has been eliminated and the material incorporated in the relevant articles. These have been arranged in four major sections, with a well qualified editor assigned to each. In view of the fact that certain topics have not received adequate treatment in recent years, and also in the interest of a broader ecumenicity, considerable background material is in cluded to supplement the account of developments in 1963. It is also a sacred duty for the editor to express his sincere appreciation for the hearty cooperation and help rendered by Christian friends in this country. Different as they may be in their theological, political and social points of view, they are all uhited in trying to describe the events and affairs, religious and otherwise, as objectively and impartially as possible. It is hoped that the articles in this volume will contribute much to the proper understanding and appreciation of Christianity in present day Japan. This year may seem to be a less eventful than the years of the Protestant Centenary (1959) and the World Convention of Christian Education Nevertheless, this has been an eventful year. The significance of the several events must be properly appraised. Mr. Muto is an excellent writ er who gives an unprejudiced observation on social affairs from a Christian point of View. Dr. Kuwada's article on religious freedom will throw much light on our understand ing of the shinto-shrine problem in this country. It is an article worth perusal. This book was released on 2018-02-18 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Japan Christian Yearbook, 1968 As Sadao Watanabe's special jacket for this 1968 Japan Christian Yearbook indicates, this is a special issue. It is a special issue for two reasons: 1) It commemorates the Centennial observance of the Meiji Restoration of 1868; 2) It is the first Japan Christian Yearbook: to be prepared and issued under joint Protestant and Roman Catholic auspices. In connection with the Centennial observance of the Meiji Restoration, which restored Japan as a strong and united nation within the world's community of nations, an attempt has been made by the Editors and Editorial Committee of the 1968 Japan Christian Yearbook to: 1) review and analyze the planting and development of Christianity in Japan; 2) Show the role which Christianity has played in Japan's modernization; and, 3) evaluate the place of Christianity in both present and future Japanese thought and culture. In reference to the second special and unique character of this issue of the Yearbook - its being a product of joint Pro testant and Roman Catholic efforts - the Editorial Committee has from the very beginning rejected any idea of speaking about Protestant or Catholic points of view, no matter how legitimate such a distinction might be theologically or ecclesiastically. In other words, we have resolved to approach our common tasks simply as Christians. This stance has been strengthened by the participation of some' outstanding non-christians in the ecumenical dialogue which is repre sented in these pages. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Japan Christian Yearbook, 1951 The Japan Christian Yearbook once again appears in its prewar format designed to report the events of the single preceding year. Still, the ten stormy years during which this book was not published must receive additional coverage in the following pages. Last year's book could only scratch the surface of momentous happenings hitherto unvoiced. And the Yearbook welcomes to its pages the presence of reports of new missionary groups and the histories of their beginnings reporting for the first time.
