Book excerpt: Romance, suspense, and adventure explode in the steamy Mexican jungle. A secretive archaeologist guards his discovery, the ruins of a hidden Olmec city, while a driven journalist on the trail of an ancient Olmec curse experiences flashbacks to her past life where shapeshifting is a reality. A journalist determined to unveil the truth ... Journalist Charley Underhill barges in on a Mexican archaeological dig, bent on sifting rumors from truth about several unexplained deaths in the remote region. She has serious doubt it was an ancient curse that killed the men. If it means keeping a watchful eye peeled for hairy, hungry predators or lying to the no-good womanizing archaeologist with a sexy Scottish accent, brilliant scientific mind, and penchant for gaudy Hawaiian shirts, so be it. Only the juiciest of exposes will fund her mother's life-saving treatment. An archaeologist hell-bent on preventing a premature press leak ... Uncovering the past is archaeologist Dr. Alistair Kincaid's purpose in life. Still smarting from a ruthless betrayal, he guards his latest discovery, an ancient Olmec city buried deep in the jungles of Oaxaca, in the hopes of making a dazzling comeback. He won't let a snoopy reporter, even one with a quirky sense of humor, smarts, and a heartwarming smile, destroy his last chance at success. Or steal his heart. Together, they uncover long-buried secrets best left untouched ... Strands from past lives intertwine with the present, drawing the couple deeper into a legacy of shifters and danger, romance and evil, reincarnation and karma. Torn between saving her mother's life and betraying the man she loves, Charley must make an impossible choice. 5 Stars: "An intricately woven tale of mystery, romance and the supernatural ..." 5 Stars: "Hilarious banter, scorching sexual tension, gripping suspense, mysticism-The Jaguar Legacy has it all! ..."

Book The Legacy of Rulership in Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl s Historia de la naci n chichimeca

Download or read book The Legacy of Rulership in Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl s Historia de la naci n chichimeca written by Leisa A. Kauffmann and published by University of New Mexico Press. This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Leisa A. Kauffmann takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the writings of one of Mexico’s early chroniclers, Fernando de Alva Ixtilxochitl, a bilingual seventeenth-century historian from Central Mexico. His writing, especially his portrayal of the great pre-Hispanic poet-king Nezahualcoyotl, influenced other canonical histories of Mexico and is still influential today. Many scholars who discuss Alva Ixtlilxochitl’s writing focus on his personal and literary investment in the European classical tradition, but Kauffmann argues that his work needs to be read through the lens of Nahua cultural concepts and literary-historical precepts. She suggests that he is best understood in light of his ancestral ties to Tetzcoco’s rulers and as a historian who worked within both Native and European traditions. By paying attention to his representation of rulership, Kauffmann demonstrates how the literary and symbolic worlds of the Nahua exist in allegorical but still discernible subtexts within the larger Spanish context of his writing.

Book excerpt: The contributors to this volume describe the many facets shamanism and depth psychology have in common: animal symbolism; recognition of the reality of the collective unconscious; and healing rituals that put therapist and patient in touch with transpersonal powers. By reintroducing the core of shamanism in contemporary form, these essays shape a powerful means of healing that combines the direct contact with the inner psyche one finds in shamanism with the self-reflection and critical awareness of modern consciousness. The contributors' draw from experiences both inside and outside the consulting room, and with cultures that include the Lakota Sioux, and those of the Peruvian Andes and the Hawaiian Islands. The focus is on those aspects of shamanism most useful and relevant to the modern practice of depth psychology. These explorations bring the young practice of analytical psychology into perspective as part of a much more ancient heritage of shamanistic healing.
