Book excerpt: True Grip-Lit To Keep You In Suspense When Kirsty Cartwright takes herself off to France to lick her wounds, it's partly out of shame over her father's actions and partly out of shame over her own, for her betrayal of her fianc. Then she hears that her father has been seriously injured in an accident. Forced to come home and face her demons - and her ex-fianc - she soon begins to suspect there is more to her father's accident than meets the eye. Driven by the need to make amends, she resolves to unravel the truth - but the deeper she digs, the more her own life becomes embroiled in the dangerous forces she is unleashing. Things start to spiral out of control until her very survival is under threat. Can she even trust the ones she loves?DS Harry Briscombe is back, and facing a personal dilemma that threatens his career. Already investigating a local murder, Dominic Cartwright's accident raises the possibility that the two cases could be linked. Between the two of them, Harry and Kirsty get caught up in a trail that is increasingly perilous. It's becoming a race against time ... and time is running out.- If you love Clare Mackintosh and Rachel Abbott, you'll love this book Questions to the Author How did the plot idea come to you?- In drabs and drabs - it was very irritating! I started off with just an idea in my head of a character meeting up with her estranged father because of some secret he was going to tell her, but I didn't know what that secret was. I wrote that whole scene and a couple of others before I ditched it. The current theme (no spoilers) was as a result of a real case that I heard on the radio and I just thought how easily every day people can get caught up in that sort of thing, tempted by the money. The various sub-plots along the way are themes that interest me - and I think everyone has views on them one way or another. The title The Jagged Line is more about the fine line we draw between truth and the stretching of it; between morality and immorality ... and how easy it is to cross those lines.Harry's got a new side-kick in Beth. Will you continue their stories on?Definitely! Beth has a very interesting back-story to develop, which was hinted at in The Jagged Line. It will come into its own in my new novel (yet to be named!). We already know that she comes from a tough background but even she will be surprised at what comes out!And now for the Big question ... when will your 4th novel be published? That really is the big question! I've literally only just started it, so it depends how quickly I can get it done. At the moment I'm struggling with the finer details of the plot, which is slowing things up a bit, but I'm sure I'll get it sorted and I'm hoping that it will be out in the next 6-9 months. Book The Perfection of Freedom

Download or read book The Perfection of Freedom written by D. C. Schindler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Perfection of Freedom seeks to respond to the impoverished conventional notion of freedom through a recovery of an understanding rich with possibilities yet all but forgotten in contemporary thought. This understanding, developed in different but complementary ways in the German thinkers Schiller, Schelling, and Hegel, connects freedom, not exclusively with power and possibility, but rather most fundamentally with completion, wholeness, and actuality. What is unique here is specifically the interpretation of freedom in terms of form, whether it be aesthetic form (Schiller), organic form (Schelling), or social form (Hegel). Although this book presents serious criticisms of the three philosophers, it shows that they open up new avenues for reflection on the notion of freedom; avenues that promise to overcome many of the dichotomies that continue to haunt contemporary thought--for example, between freedom and order, freedom and nature, and self and other. The Perfection of Freedom offers not only a significantly new interpretation of Schiller, Schelling, and Hegel, it also proposes a modernity more organically rooted in the ancient and classical Christian worlds.

Book New Business and Regulatory Strategies in the Postal Sector

Download or read book New Business and Regulatory Strategies in the Postal Sector written by Pier Luigi Parcu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-13 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses major issues facing postal and delivery services throughout the world. Worldwide, there is currently a considerable amount of interest in postal and delivery economics. The industry is reacting to a state of near crisis and is implementing different drastic changes. The European Commission and member States are still wrestling with the problem of how to implement entry liberalization into postal markets, how to address digital competition, and how to maintain the universal service obligation (USO). The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 in the U.S. has perhaps created and exacerbated the problems faced by USPS. Digitalisation, technological development and online platforms are strongly affecting both the way postal and delivery operators are managing their services as well as their role on the market. Strong emphasis was attributed to the assets of Postal Operators (POs) and their added value in the digital age as well as on new business strategies. This volume presents original essays by prominent researchers in the field, selected and edited from papers presented at this year’s 26th Conference on Postal and Delivery Economics held in Split, Croatia, from May 30- June 2, 2018.Topics addressed by this volume include quality of service, last mile solutions, and competition in the liberalized market. This book will be a useful tool not only for graduate students and professors, but also for postal administrations, consulting firms, and federal government departments.

Book Mathematical Structures for Computer Graphics

Download or read book Mathematical Structures for Computer Graphics written by Steven J. Janke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-09-18 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive exploration of the mathematics behind the modeling and rendering of computer graphics scenes Mathematical Structures for Computer Graphics presents an accessible and intuitive approach to the mathematical ideas and techniques necessary for two- and three-dimensional computer graphics. Focusing on the significant mathematical results, the book establishes key algorithms used to build complex graphics scenes. Written for readers with various levels of mathematical background, the book develops a solid foundation for graphics techniques and fills in relevant graphics details often overlooked in the literature. Rather than use a rigid theorem/proof approach, the book provides a flexible discussion that moves from vector geometry through transformations, curve modeling, visibility, and lighting models. Mathematical Structures for Computer Graphics also includes: Numerous examples of two- and three-dimensional techniques along with numerical calculations Plenty of mathematical and programming exercises in each chapter, which are designed particularly for graphics tasks Additional details at the end of each chapter covering historical notes, further calculations, and connected concepts for readers who wish to delve deeper Unique coverage of topics such as calculations with homogeneous coordinates, computational geometry for polygons, use of barycentric coordinates, various descriptions for curves, and L-system techniques for recursive images Mathematical Structures for Computer Graphics is an excellent textbook for undergraduate courses in computer science, mathematics, and engineering, as well as an ideal reference for practicing engineers, researchers, and professionals in computer graphics fields. The book is also useful for those readers who wish to understand algorithms for producing their own interesting computer images.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tackling a topic that has particular appeal in the age of digital design, this well-founded introduction to the subject of parquet deformation fills a gap. These subtle, intricate geometric transformations, best known through the "Metamorphosis" series by M. C. Escher, were introduced to design curricula by American professor William S. Huff in the 1960s. The book brings together scholarly articles by the most important authors in the field and material collected in the archives of the Ulm School of Design in Germany, juxtaposed with extensive illustrations of two- and three-dimensional works created at the Vienna University of Technology. Written for anyone interested in the fields of design and geometry, this book aims to inform and inspire.
