Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jacobite Arab Synaxarium is a hagiographical volume on the life of the saints of the Jacobite church. This is commonly a collection of the saints that would be venerated in the Arabic or West Syriac churches, traditionally part of the Syriac Orthodox Church. This synaxarium stands apart from other calendars of saints, as it is composed specifically for this church tradition, and has not previously been available in the English language. This third volume consists of the second month of the Coptic calendar- Hathor, corresponding roughly to the month of November.

This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theodore (تواضروس أبو قرة) appears to have composed this treatise in defense of the Christian faith against the political and intellectual attacks many many of of his Jewish and Islamic contemporaries. He is also deeply concerned with the question of Christological Orthodoxy, defending the doctrines of the Council of Chalcedon against the Nestorian polemicists who seek to battle with Theodore's own West Syriac orthodoxy. His apologetic work would be preserved for some centuries with the aid of the Byzantine Church.
Download or read book The Martyrdom of St Bartholomew Greek Arabic and Armenian versions written by D.P. Curtin and published by Dalcassian Press. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Bartholomew is long remembered for the gruesome nature of his martyrdom. It is an image popularized by Renaissance art, and famed for its brutality. However, the legends that surrounds the life, ministry, and death of this apostle are varied. All accounts name Armenia as the region of his death, and as the founder of the church in that nation. Yet, there is still considerable mystery to his activity. This text contains three different account regarding his life, all from different time periods and cultures. The Greek account grants few details, and was likely composed in North Mesopotamia by a Nestorian author in the 6th century. The Arabic account if likely from the 7th or 8th century and is also terse. The Armenian account is the version that is by far the most complete and detailed. It is here published in its unabridged form in English for the first time.

Download or read book Christology After Chalcedon written by Iain Torrance and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 1998-04-29 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first part of the sixth century, variant forms of Monophysitism existed. In 'Christology after Chalcedon', Iain Torrance provides a theological introduction and a translation of the letters between Severus of Antioch and Sergius the Grammarian. Severus was the Monophysite Patriarch of Antioch - a leader of the moderate Monophysites whose doctrine adhered more closely to Catholic teaching and whose primary divergence from orthodoxy was terminological. Though little is known of Sergius, it is apparent from his letters that he was a Monophysite of the more extreme sort. The correspondence between Sergius and Severus comprises three letters from Sergius, three replies by Severus, and an apology by Sergius.
