Book excerpt: A groundbreaking story about a teenage girl who discovers she's intersex . . . and what happens when her secret is revealed to the entire school. Incredibly compelling and sensitively told, None of the Above is a thought-provoking novel that explores what it means to be a boy, a girl, or something in between. What if everything you knew about yourself changed in an instant? When Kristin Lattimer is voted homecoming queen, it seems like another piece of her ideal life has fallen into place. She's a champion hurdler with a full scholarship to college and she's madly in love with her boyfriend. In fact, she's decided that she's ready to take things to the next level with him. But Kristin's first time isn't the perfect moment she's planned—something is very wrong. A visit to the doctor reveals the truth: Kristin is intersex, which means that though she outwardly looks like a girl, she has male chromosomes, not to mention boy "parts." Dealing with her body is difficult enough, but when her diagnosis is leaked to the whole school, Kristin's entire identity is thrown into question. As her world unravels, can she come to terms with her new self?

Book Red White and Blue the Issue

Download or read book Red White and Blue the Issue written by Franklin E. Rutledge and published by Author House. This book was released on 2007-05-17 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book speaks to all Americans in one way or another. It is a true story of Americas beginning, and Gods divine providence. We are founded upon a principle that believes in the worship of the true God. It was and still is our belief that He designed this country to be a light and a savior for the world. This is evident by the fact most people are trying to come here, or seek our help. America has had its share of internal problems; the enslavement of the Black Africans, the killing of the Native Indians, the suppression of women, and the harsh treatment of Black Americans (Africans). Through all of this, God caused her to prosper. This book is the only book that states emphatically that in 1492, God designed a plan for many people from across the globe to make this country their home, and it gives the proofs as evidence. The means of getting us into this country may not be understood, but the ends can not be denied and are much appreciated. Every American needs this book. This book will help us to become better Americans. This book teaches us the importance of our citizenship; The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Statue of Liberty and the Flag (which embodies all that we are). It shows us where we came from and where we are going. There is a divine guidance system at work in America. America is the Promised Land. The poem engraved on Lady Libertys pedestal epitomizes this very philosophy. This book is a correspondence panacea to heal the past wounds of the Blacks, the Indians, the Women and the Whites in America. As we forgive the past, we can enjoy the spiritual and material prosperity that God promised to us through Abraham.

This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A USA TODAY BESTSELLER! The cozy comedy of Joe Pera meets the darkly playful illustrations of Joe Bennett in A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape, a funny, warm, and sincere guide to regaining calm and confidence when you're hiding in the bathroom. “Nothing says ‘class’ to your dinner guests more than a Joe Pera book next to the can.” —Seth Meyers Joe Pera goes to the bathroom a lot. And his friend, Joe Bennett, does too. They both have small bladders but more often it’s just to get a moment of quiet, a break from work, or because it’s the only way they know how to politely end conversations. So they created a functional meditative guide to help people who suffer from social anxiety and deal with it in this very particular way. Although, it’s a comedic book, the goal is to help these readers: 1. Relax 2. Recharge 3. Rejoin the world outside of the bathroom It’s also fun entertainment for people simply hiding in the bathroom to avoid doing work. A Bathroom Book for People Not Pooping or Peeing But Using the Bathroom as an Escape will be waiting in the bathroom like a beacon for anxious readers looking to feel calm, confident, and less alone. “Nothing says ‘class’ to your dinner guests more than a Joe Pera book next to the can.” —Seth Meyers “A beautiful and funny book about something I have done all my life. Thank you, Mr. Joseph Pera.” —Aidy Bryant At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book The Two Majorities

  • Publisher : Johns Hopkins University Press
  • Release : 1995-07-25
  • ISBN : 9780801850189
  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book The Two Majorities written by Byron E. Shafer and published by Johns Hopkins University Press. This book was released on 1995-07-25 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do Democratic political candidates avoid the one issue on which the general public is most in agreement with them? Why do Republicans consistently raise the one issue their advisors urge them to avoid? Why do voters so often exhibit patterns of policy preference vastly different from what analysts and strategists predict? And why do these same voters consistently cast ballots that ensure the continuation of "divided government?" In The Two Majorities Byron Shafer and William Claggett offer groundbreaking political analysis that resolves many of the seeming contradictions in the contemporary American political scene. Drawing on an unusually large sample of all Americans, taken by the Gallup organization, Shafer and Claggett argue that the recent turbulence in American politics is in some ways superficial. Below the surface, they contend, the political preferences of the American people remain remarkably stable. Shafer and Claggett find that American public opinion is organized around two clusters of issues—both of which are favored by a majority if voters: social welfare, social insurance, and civil rights, which constitute an economic/welfare factor (associated with Democrats), and cultural values, civil liberties, and foreign relations, a cultural/national factor (associated with Republicans). Provocatively, the authors argue that each party's best strategy for success is not to try to take popular positions on the whole range of issues, but to focus attention on the party's most successful cluster of issues.

Book Still a Work in Progress

Download or read book Still a Work in Progress written by Jo Knowles and published by Candlewick Press. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a return to middle-grade fiction, master of perspectives Jo Knowles depicts a younger sibling struggling to maintain his everyday life when his older sister is in crisis. Noah is just trying to make it through seventh grade. The girls are confusing, the homework is boring, and even his friends are starting to bug him. Not to mention that his older sister, Emma, has been acting pretty strange, even though Noah thought she’d been doing better ever since the Thing They Don’t Talk About. The only place he really feels at peace is in art class, with a block of clay in his hands. As it becomes clear through Emma’s ever-stricter food rules and regulations that she’s not really doing better at all, the normal seventh-grade year Noah was hoping for begins to seem pretty unattainable. In an affecting and realistic novel with bright spots of humor, Jo Knowles captures the complexities of navigating middle school while feeling helpless in the face of a family crisis.
