Book excerpt: A volcano erupts in Iceland, its primordial smoke and ash blanket Europe, resulting in the worst air travel grounding since the ourbreak of World War II. On an oil rig far out in the Gulf of Mexico, an explosion marks the start of the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history, devastating the seafood and oil industries across the Gulf Coast. A rash of tornados, thought to be the worst in world history, strike over a four-day period leaving widespread destruction in their wake. Were these terrible events nothing more than random acts of God? Picking up where THE ISRAEL OMEN left off, THE ISRAEL OMEN II looks at the continuing sage of disasters coinciding with efforts to remove the fabled "Promised Land" from Israel. But it also goes beyond to consider what they all may be leading to. Does the continuation of these strange, even eerie events since 1991, represent a litany of Divine warnings that have been repeating like a broken record to gain the attention of mankind? THE ISRAEL OMEN II explores the possibility that a truly world shaking cataclysm is approaching, and that the strange, and even historically severe disasters that continue to coinide with diplomatic efforts against the "Promised Land" may represent a growing Biblical warning to mankind. With the sharp turn in U.S. policy against Israel under President Obama, is the stage now set for the culmination of these warnings?

Book Divination in Ancient Israel and its Near Eastern Environment

Download or read book Divination in Ancient Israel and its Near Eastern Environment written by Frederick H. Cryer and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1994-05-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this revealing study, the author suggests that ancient Israel was a 'magic society' like those around it, and similar in many respects to a number of magic-using 'savage' societies studied by modern social anthropology. Although the Old Testament attempts to distinguish between priestly and prophetic divination, this distinction was not sharply drawn in ancient times. References to divination in fact are found in all genres of Israelite literature, implying that many of these practices were performed throughout Israelite society. 'Cryer's investigation of divination in ancient Israel is a masterful synthesis of social and historical analyses of an important yet neglected topic' (Ronald E. Simkins, Catholic Biblical Quarterly).

Book The Origin of the Modern Jewish Woman Writer

Download or read book The Origin of the Modern Jewish Woman Writer written by Michael Galchinsky and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1830 and 1880, the Jewish community flourished in England. During this time, known as haskalah, or the Anglo-Jewish Enlightenment, Jewish women in England became the first Jewish women anywhere to publish novels, histories, periodicals, theological tracts, and conduct manuals. The Origin of the Modern Jewish Woman Writer analyzes this critical but forgotten period in the development of Jewish women's writing in relation to Victorian literary history, women's cultural history, and Jewish cultural history. Michael Galchinsky demonstrates that these women writers were the most widely recognized spokespersons for the haskalah. Their romances, some of which sold as well as novels by Dickens, argued for Jew's emancipation in the Victorian world and women's emancipation in the Jewish world.

Book Why Did Yahweh and His Son Yahshuah Say What They Said

Download or read book Why Did Yahweh and His Son Yahshuah Say What They Said written by Dr. Justin G. Prock and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YAHWEH (The LORD God) and His Son YAHSHUAH (Jesus Christ) made statements with regard to Eschatology that have been “Spiritualized” for over a Millennium, which has led to the belief in Universalism, the belief that YAHSHUAH died for EVERYONE. Well, after one studies the original languages of the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, the message of the Kingdom of God was preached to and accepted by a certain House in the Bible. The other House rejected this message, and YAHSHUAH punished that House by taking the Kingdom away from them and giving It to another nation bringing forth fruit. There are only the House of Israel, the House of Judah, and the House of David, mentioned in the Bible. All three existed then, as they do today. However, most of today’s Babylonian Priesthood/Churchianity refuses to accept the secular historical position with regard to the House of Israel, and who they are today. The people groups, which YAHWEH and YAHSHUAH addressed, still exist today. However, these people are all mixed-up, and known by different names, but they DO exist. This book goes back to the origin of these people groups in the Bible, and brings them forward to the present using their old names, in order to understand Eschatology. This brings us to the major question of, “Is the Bible only about Israel?” And, if so, how does it affect our Eschatology today? This book answers these hard questions...

Book Challenge and Conformity

Download or read book Challenge and Conformity written by Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthodox Jewish women are increasingly seeking new ways to express themselves religiously, and important changes have occurred in consequence in their self-definition and the part they play in the religious life of their communities. Drawing on surveys and interviews across different Orthodox groups in London, as well as on the author’s own experience of active participation over many years, this is a thoroughly researched study that analyses its findings in the context of related developments in Israel and the USA. Sympathetic attention is given to women’s creativity and sophistication as they struggle to develop new modes of expression that will let their voices be heard; at the same time, the inevitable points of conflict with the male-dominated religious establishment are examined and explained. There is a focus, too, on the impact of innovations in ritual: these include not only the creation of women-only spaces and women’s participation in public practices traditionally reserved for men, but also new personal practices often acquired on study visits to Israel which are replacing traditions learned from family members. This is a much-needed study of how new norms of lived religion have emerged in London, influenced by both the rise of feminism and the backlash against it, and also by women’s new understanding of their religious roles.

Book Israeli Prisoner of War Policies

Download or read book Israeli Prisoner of War Policies written by Alexander Bligh and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Israeli Prisoner of War Policies: From the 1949 Armistice to the 2006 Kidnappings examines the development of Israel’s policies toward prisoners of war across multiple conflicts. Taking POWs is an indication of strength and a method of deterrence. However, the conditions leading to the release of POWs are often the result of the asymmetry in diplomatic power between two parties, or, as in the case of Israel, the gap between military might and diplomatic weakness within a single country. Consequently, the issue of POWs and their military and diplomatic significance represents at least two levels of actors’ behavior: what the criteria should be for taking POWs and what mechanism should be employed and what price should be paid in order to secure their release. Studying the prisoner exchange deals involving Israel reveals three eras in the emergence of Israeli POW policy. Israel has had no comprehensive policy or guiding set of directives. The lack of a well-established policy was not only the result of the unstable nature of Israeli politics, but was to a large extent the result of the tendency of most Israeli cabinets to delay critical decisions. Successive Israeli governments have witnessed three distinct periods of conflict requiring unique approaches to POWs: a confrontation with nation states, 1948/49 to the June 1967 War; a mixed challenge posed by national and sub-national players, 1967 to the aftermath of the October 1973 War; and the long battle with sub-national actors, first Palestinians and later Shi’ite and Sunni Muslims. This volume seeks to apply the lessons of Israel’s complex POW policies to conflicts around the world.
