Book The Islamic Laws of Animal Slaughter

Download or read book The Islamic Laws of Animal Slaughter written by Muḥammad Taqī ʻUs̲mānī and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a growing sense of concern today among consumers, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, about the healthfulness of what they eat. Health food stores have gained a prominent status in the US, and many consumers review every last ingredient listed in a food items nutritional facts list to ensure that they meet their dietary standards. Muslims must be even more conscientious of what they consume, as a Muslims diet must, above all, be lawful (halal) under Islamic law, as well as wholesome (tayyib). The Quran states, O people, eat from whatever is upon the earth that is lawful and wholesome (2:168).Of all types of food, one that has become the cause of controversy among Muslims the world over is slaughtered meat. Muslim sources without the guidance of scholars have spread inaccurate information about Islams rules and regulations for animal slaughter, leaving Muslims confused about the facts. Authored by a Muslim scholar recognized worldwide for his mastery of Islamic jurisprudence, The Islamic Laws of Animal Slaughter clears up the confusion. The author presents a brief, structured analysis of Islams laws for animal slaughter, as well an overview of their practical application in the modern world. A couple of articles, appended specially for this translation, round off the discussion by addressing matters particularly relevant to Muslims in the US and other Western nations.

Book The Halal Food Handbook

Download or read book The Halal Food Handbook written by Yunes Ramadan Al-Teinaz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-03-09 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique handbook providing a set of good practice standards for both producers and consumers of Halal food This accessible, authoritative book covers all aspects of Halal from its origins through to how we expect Halal to develop in the coming years. It explains what Halal is, where it came from, how it is practiced, and by whom. In addition to putting Halal in a religious and cultural context, the book provides practical standards for those working in the Halal trade. It explains why there are so many different interpretations of Halal and why this needs to be resolved if international trade is to be developed. Each chapter in The Halal Food Handbook is written by leading experts in their particular field of study. The first one discusses how regulatory bodies have failed to stem the miss selling and adulteration of Halal foods. The next chapters cover the slaughter process and issues around good practice. The book then looks at regulators—covering Sharia law, UK national laws, and the EU—and outlines the legal framework for enforcing the law. It also compares and contrasts different types of religious slaughter for faith foods; examines attempts to set an international standard for trade; and discusses pork adulteration in Halal foods. The final chapter covers other aspects of Halal, including cosmetics, tourism, lifestyle, and banking, and finishes with a look at what the future holds for Halal. Written and edited by leading international experts in Halal who are backed by the Muslim Council of Britain Presents a set of good practice standards for both producers and consumers of Halal food Covers the complexity of the political, legal, and practical dimensions of Halal food production The Halal Food Handbook will appeal to a wide audience, including abattoirs, manufacturers, retailers, regulators, academics, public bodies catering for Muslims, and the broader Muslim community.

Book The Proper Way to Slaughter Animal in Islam

Download or read book The Proper Way to Slaughter Animal in Islam written by Maimuna Iliyasu and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-05-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam teaches us the process of slaughtering animals in the most humane way possible. The Islamic method of slaughtering animals has been a point of great criticism for many people, which has only been festering in this day and age where animal rights movements and scientific advancement are on the rise. Hence, this brings us to the question, what is Islam's take on the subject? Can we back it up with science? According to Islamic law, the Arabic word for the ritual of slaughtering animals is known as Dhabihah, which essentially deems the slaughtered meat as 'halal' or permissible to eat. It is applicable on the slaughter of lawful (halal) animals like chicken, sheep, goat, cow etc., and becomes null and void on the slaughter of unlawful animals like pigs, dogs, cats etc. The method of zabihah is governed by a set of strict rules which need to be followed. 1. The slaughter needs to be carried out by a Muslim or Ahlul Kitab Only a Muslim or someone who is Ahlul Kitab (people of the Book), can carry out the task for the meat to be deemed halal. 2. Start by reciting Allah's (SWT) name The first step is to recite the name of Allah (SWT). This is to take Allah's (SWT) permission and to carry out the slaughter under His name and His name only; the slaughter cannot be made under the name of any other deity. 3. Slaughter the animal with a sharp knife (sharp cutting tool) The animal must be sacrificed with a sharp knife in order to minimize the pain and it must be done quickly. A blunt knife will only prolong the whole ordeal, causing more pain to the animal. 4. Directly pierce the throat, windpipe and blood vessels of the animal The person must place the knife directly over the throat and windpipe of the animal and make the cut as precisely as possible, cutting off all the blood vessels but not the spinal cord itself (cutting the spinal cord can damage the nerve fibers which can cause the animal to go into cardiac arrest, stagnating the blood). This causes the animal to die quickly and with minimal pain. 5. Drain the blood All the blood needs to be drained from the body before the head of the animal is removed. This is to purify the animal's body of any type of bacteria, toxins or germs that may reside in the blood of the animal, which can lead to different types of illnesses. Do you know that it is the undrained blood that contaminates the meat, which makes it unhealthy? What many non-Muslim butchers do is to completely chop off the head because of which the connection between the brain and the heart is lost. Hence, the heart stops pumping or beating almost instantaneously. Therefore, there is no driving force to push the blood out of the body. As a result, the blood stagnates in the veins and arteries and contaminates the meat. Scientifically, blood is one of the best culture mediums to grow bacteria.Consuming meat contaminated with blood makes humans more vulnerable to infections and joint pains due to high uric acid levels in the blood. So, what is the Halal way? We do not chop off the head completely. Instead, we cut the main vein (jugular vein) in the neck first. This vein contains venous blood in high pressure, and it directly connects to the atrium of the heart without any interference. This method of slaughtering preserves the connection between the brain and the heart which allows neural transmissions to be delivered. This keeps the heart pumping until all the blood is drained off completely from every vein and artery in the body making the meat pure and healthy, SubhanAllah! What makes fish Halal? even though it is not slaughtered this way? Allah (SWT) has created fish in such a way that the moment it is removed from the water the entire blood in its body is redirected to a part called the epiglottis in its mouth which turns bright red thus indicating that the blood is drained, and the meat is pure..........

Scholars from a wide range of disciplines, including Thomas Berry (cultural history), Wendy Doniger (study of myth), Elizabeth Lawrence (veterinary medicine, ritual studies), Marc Bekoff (cognitive ethology), Marc Hauser (behavioral science), Steven Wise (animals and law), Peter Singer (animals and ethics), and Jane Goodall (primatology) consider how major religious traditions have incorporated animals into their belief systems, myths, rituals, and art. Their findings offer profound insights into the relationship between human beings and animals, and a deeper understanding of the social and ecological web in which we all live.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From food products to fashions and cosmetics to children’s toys, a wide range of commodities today are being marketed as “halal” (permitted, lawful) or “Islamic” to Muslim consumers both in the West and in Muslim-majority nations. However, many of these products are not authentically Islamic or halal, and their producers have not necessarily created them to honor religious practice or sentiment. Instead, most “halal” commodities are profit-driven, and they exploit the rise of a new Islamic economic paradigm, “Brand Islam,” as a clever marketing tool. Brand Islam investigates the rise of this highly lucrative marketing strategy and the resulting growth in consumer loyalty to goods and services identified as Islamic. Faegheh Shirazi explores the reasons why consumers buy Islam-branded products, including conspicuous piety or a longing to identify with a larger Muslim community, especially for those Muslims who live in Western countries, and how this phenomenon is affecting the religious, cultural, and economic lives of Muslim consumers. She demonstrates that Brand Islam has actually enabled a new type of global networking, joining product and service sectors together in a huge conglomerate that some are referring to as the Interland. A timely and original contribution to Muslim cultural studies, Brand Islam reveals how and why the growth of consumerism, global communications, and the Westernization of many Islamic countries are all driving the commercialization of Islam.

Book The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam Al Halal Wal Haram Fil Islam

This book was released on 1999-01-30 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam is a long-awaited translation of Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi's well-known Arabic work, Al-Halal Al-Haram Fil-Islam. Over the years since ite first publication in 1960, this volume has enjoyed a huge readership in the Arabic speaking world and is now in its 20th edition. It came to dispel the ambiguities surrounding the honorable Shari'ah, and to fulfill the essential needs of the Muslims in this age. It clarifies the Halal (Lawful) and why it is Halal, and the Haram (Prohibited) and why it is Haram, referring to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be on him). It answers all the questions which may face the Muslims today, and refutes the ambiguities and lies about Islam. In a very simple way, Al-Halal Al-Haram Fil-Islam delves into the authentic references in Islamic jurisprudence and fiqh. It therefrom extracts judgments of interest to contemporary Muslims in the areas of worship, business dealings, marriage and divorce, food and drink, dress and ornaments, patterns of behavior, individual and group relations, family and social ethics, habits and social customs. Referring to authentic texts, it clarifies that "Permission is the rule in everything, unless it is otherwise specified in matters that adversely affect individuals or groups." It also clarifies that "Allah is the only authority who has the right to legislate for the lawful and the prohibited."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Khaled Abou El Fadl is a classically-trained Islamic jurist, an American lawyer and law professor, and one of the most important Islamic thinkers today. In this updated and expanded edition of The Search for Beauty in Islam, Abou El Fadl offers eye-opening and enlightening insights into the contemporary realities of the current state of Islam and the West. Through a "conference of the books," an imagined conference of Muslim intellects from centuries past, Abou El Fadl examines the ugliness that has come to plague Muslim realities and attempts to reclaim what he maintains is a core moral value in Islam-the value of beauty. Does Islamic law allow, or even call for, the gruesome acts of ugliness that have become so commonly associated with Islam today? Has Islam become a religion devoid of beauty, compassion and love? Based on actual cases, this book tackles different issues and problems in each chapter through a post-9/11 lens, discussing such topics as marriage, divorce, parental rights, the position of women, the veil, sexual abuse, wife-beating, terrorism, bigotry, morality, law, and the role of tradition. Abou El Fadl argues that the rekindling of the forgotten value of beauty is essential for Muslims today to take back what has been lost to the fundamentalist forces that have denigrated their religion.
