Download or read book The Internally 4 Connected Binary Matroids with No M K 3 3 Minor written by Dillon Mayhew and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors give a characterization of the internally $4$-connected binary matroids that have no minor isomorphic to $M(K_{3,3})$. Any such matroid is either cographic, or is isomorphic to a particular single-element extension of the bond matroid of a cubic or quartic Mobius ladder, or is isomorphic to one of eighteen sporadic matroids.

Book Weighted Shifts on Directed Trees

Download or read book Weighted Shifts on Directed Trees written by Zenon Jan Jablónski and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new class of (not necessarily bounded) operators related to (mainly infinite) directed trees is introduced and investigated. Operators in question are to be considered as a generalization of classical weighted shifts, on the one hand, and of weighted adjacency operators, on the other; they are called weighted shifts on directed trees. The basic properties of such operators, including closedness, adjoints, polar decomposition and moduli are studied. Circularity and the Fredholmness of weighted shifts on directed trees are discussed. The relationships between domains of a weighted shift on a directed tree and its adjoint are described. Hyponormality, cohyponormality, subnormality and complete hyperexpansivity of such operators are entirely characterized in terms of their weights. Related questions that arose during the study of the topic are solved as well.

Book Erdos Space and Homeomorphism Groups of Manifolds

Download or read book Erdos Space and Homeomorphism Groups of Manifolds written by Jan Jakobus Dijkstra and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let M be either a topological manifold, a Hilbert cube manifold, or a Menger manifold and let D be an arbitrary countable dense subset of M. Consider the topological group H(M,D) which consists of all autohomeomorphisms of M that map D onto itself equipped with the compact-open topology. We present a complete solution to the topological classification problem for H(M,D) as follows. If M is a one-dimensional topological manifold, then we proved in an earlier paper that H(M,D) is homeomorphic to Qω, the countable power of the space of rational numbers. In all other cases we find in this paper that H(M,D) is homeomorphic to the famed Erdős space E E, which consists of the vectors in Hilbert space l2 with rational coordinates. We obtain the second result by developing topological characterizations of Erdős space.

Book The Lin Ni s Problem for Mean Convex Domains

Download or read book The Lin Ni s Problem for Mean Convex Domains written by Olivier Druet and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors prove some refined asymptotic estimates for positive blow-up solutions to $\Delta u+\epsilon u=n(n-2)u^{\frac{n+2}{n-2}}$ on $\Omega$, $\partial_\nu u=0$ on $\partial\Omega$, $\Omega$ being a smooth bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 3$. In particular, they show that concentration can occur only on boundary points with nonpositive mean curvature when $n=3$ or $n\geq 7$. As a direct consequence, they prove the validity of the Lin-Ni's conjecture in dimension $n=3$ and $n\geq 7$ for mean convex domains and with bounded energy. Recent examples by Wang-Wei-Yan show that the bound on the energy is a necessary condition.

Book Metrics of Positive Scalar Curvature and Generalised Morse Functions Part I

Download or read book Metrics of Positive Scalar Curvature and Generalised Morse Functions Part I written by Mark P. Walsh and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that isotopic metrics of positive scalar curvature are concordant. Whether or not the converse holds is an open question, at least in dimensions greater than four. The author shows that for a particular type of concordance, constructed using the surgery techniques of Gromov and Lawson, this converse holds in the case of closed simply connected manifolds of dimension at least five.

Book Towards a Modulo p Langlands Correspondence for GL 2

Download or read book Towards a Modulo p Langlands Correspondence for GL 2 written by Christophe Breuil and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors construct new families of smooth admissible $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$-representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(F)$, where $F$ is a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. When $F$ is unramified, these representations have the $\mathrm{GL}_2({\mathcal O}_F)$-socle predicted by the recent generalizations of Serre's modularity conjecture. The authors' motivation is a hypothetical mod $p$ Langlands correspondence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let $X$ be a locally compact Hausdorff space with $n$ proper continuous self maps $\sigma_i:X \to X$ for $1 \le i \le n$. To this the authors associate two conjugacy operator algebras which emerge as the natural candidates for the universal algebra of the system, the tensor algebra $\mathcal{A}(X,\tau)$ and the semicrossed product $\mathrm{C}_0(X)\times_\tau\mathbb{F}_n^+$. They develop the necessary dilation theory for both models. In particular, they exhibit an explicit family of boundary representations which determine the C*-envelope of the tensor algebra.|Let $X$ be a locally compact Hausdorff space with $n$ proper continuous self maps $\sigma_i:X \to X$ for $1 \le i \le n$. Book N harmonic Mappings Between Annuli

Download or read book N harmonic Mappings Between Annuli written by Tadeusz Iwaniec and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central theme of this paper is the variational analysis of homeomorphisms $h: {\mathbb X} \overset{\textnormal{\tiny{onto}}}{\longrightarrow} {\mathbb Y}$ between two given domains ${\mathbb X}, {\mathbb Y} \subset {\mathbb R}^n$. The authors look for the extremal mappings in the Sobolev space ${\mathscr W}^{1,n}({\mathbb X},{\mathbb Y})$ which minimize the energy integral ${\mathscr E}_h=\int_{{\mathbb X}} \,|\!|\, Dh(x) \,|\!|\,^n\, \textrm{d}x$. Because of the natural connections with quasiconformal mappings this $n$-harmonic alternative to the classical Dirichlet integral (for planar domains) has drawn the attention of researchers in Geometric Function Theory. Explicit analysis is made here for a pair of concentric spherical annuli where many unexpected phenomena about minimal $n$-harmonic mappings are observed. The underlying integration of nonlinear differential forms, called free Lagrangians, becomes truly a work of art.

Book Second Order Analysis on mathscr P 2 M W 2

Download or read book Second Order Analysis on mathscr P 2 M W 2 written by Nicola Gigli and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author develops a rigorous second order analysis on the space of probability measures on a Riemannian manifold endowed with the quadratic optimal transport distance $W_2$. The discussion includes: definition of covariant derivative, discussion of the problem of existence of parallel transport, calculus of the Riemannian curvature tensor, differentiability of the exponential map and existence of Jacobi fields. This approach does not require any smoothness assumption on the measures considered.

Book Resistance Forms Quasisymmetric Maps and Heat Kernel Estimates

Download or read book Resistance Forms Quasisymmetric Maps and Heat Kernel Estimates written by Jun Kigami and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assume that there is some analytic structure, a differential equation or a stochastic process for example, on a metric space. To describe asymptotic behaviors of analytic objects, the original metric of the space may not be the best one. Every now and then one can construct a better metric which is somehow ``intrinsic'' with respect to the analytic structure and under which asymptotic behaviors of the analytic objects have nice expressions. The problem is when and how one can find such a metric. In this paper, the author considers the above problem in the case of stochastic processes associated with Dirichlet forms derived from resistance forms. The author's main concerns are the following two problems: (I) When and how to find a metric which is suitable for describing asymptotic behaviors of the heat kernels associated with such processes. (II) What kind of requirement for jumps of a process is necessary to ensure good asymptotic behaviors of the heat kernels associated with such processes.

Book The Goodwillie Tower and the EHP Sequence

Download or read book The Goodwillie Tower and the EHP Sequence written by Mark Behrens and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author studies the interaction between the EHP sequence and the Goodwillie tower of the identity evaluated at spheres at the prime $2$. Both give rise to spectral sequences (the EHP spectral sequence and the Goodwillie spectral sequence, respectively) which compute the unstable homotopy groups of spheres. He relates the Goodwillie filtration to the $P$ map, and the Goodwillie differentials to the $H$ map. Furthermore, he studies an iterated Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence approach to the homotopy of the layers of the Goodwillie tower of the identity on spheres. He shows that differentials in these spectral sequences give rise to differentials in the EHP spectral sequence. He uses his theory to recompute the $2$-primary unstable stems through the Toda range (up to the $19$-stem). He also studies the homological behavior of the interaction between the EHP sequence and the Goodwillie tower of the identity. This homological analysis involves the introduction of Dyer-Lashof-like operations associated to M. Ching's operad structure on the derivatives of the identity. These operations act on the mod $2$ stable homology of the Goodwillie layers of any functor from spaces to spaces.

Book On L Packets for Inner Forms of SL n

Download or read book On L Packets for Inner Forms of SL n written by Kaoru Hiraga and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of $L$-indistinguishability for inner forms of $SL_2$ has been established in the well-known paper of Labesse and Langlands (L-indistinguishability forSL$(2)$. Canad. J. Math. 31 (1979), no. 4, 726-785). In this memoir, the authors study $L$-indistinguishability for inner forms of $SL_n$ for general $n$. Following the idea of Vogan in (The local Langlands conjecture. Representation theory of groups and algebras, 305-379, Contemp. Math. 145 (1993)), they modify the $S$-group and show that such an $S$-group fits well in the theory of endoscopy for inner forms of $SL_n$.

Book Classification of Radial Solutions Arising in the Study of Thermal Structures with Thermal Equilibrium or No Flux at the Boundary

Download or read book Classification of Radial Solutions Arising in the Study of Thermal Structures with Thermal Equilibrium or No Flux at the Boundary written by Alfonso Castro and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors provide a complete classification of the radial solutions to a class of reaction diffusion equations arising in the study of thermal structures such as plasmas with thermal equilibrium or no flux at the boundary. In particular, their study includes rapidly growing nonlinearities, that is, those where an exponent exceeds the critical exponent. They describe the corresponding bifurcation diagrams and determine existence and uniqueness of ground states, which play a central role in characterizing those diagrams. They also provide information on the stability-unstability of the radial steady states.
