Book The Prologue of the Fourth Gospel

Download or read book The Prologue of the Fourth Gospel written by Peter Phillips and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2006-02-16 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phillips undertakes a sequential reading of the Prologue of John's Gospel. By using the reading strategies of Iser, Emmott, and Eco, the book establishes a reading strategy termed sequential disclosure, which is then applied to the text. In order to arrive at the reading, preliminary chapters focus both on historical interpretation of the Prologue in terms of reader response and on the role of the author, the use of persuasion and the development of irony. Special focus is given to the role of the dramatic prologue, as well as the interaction between rhetoric, irony and community. As such, the book discusses the role of the reading process in developing a specific community language. The book focuses on the didactic role of the Prologue in teaching readers this language and so including them into the Johannine community. The reading of the Prologue highlights the key aspects of the reading process: ambiguity and disambiguation; resemanticization; antilanguage; community development and intertextuality. A sequential reading of the Prologue highlights the didactic and evangelistic role of this text. JSNTS 294

Book Quintilian on the Teaching of Speaking and Writing

Download or read book Quintilian on the Teaching of Speaking and Writing written by Quintilian and published by SIU Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quintilian on the Teaching of Speaking and Writing, edited by James J. Murphy and Cleve Wiese, offers scholars and students insights into the pedagogies of Marcus Fabius Quintilianus (ca. 35–ca. 95 CE), one of Rome’s most famous teachers of rhetoric. Providing translations of three key sections from Quintilian’s important and influential Institutio oratoria (Education of the Orator), this volume outlines the systematic educational processes that Quintilian inherited from the Greeks, foregrounding his rationale for a rhetorical education on the interrelationship between reading, speaking, listening, and writing, and emphasizing the blending of moral purpose and artistic skill. Translated here, Books One, Two, and Ten of the Institutio oratoria offer the essence of Quintilian’s holistic rhetorical educational plan that ranges from early interplay between written and spoken language to later honing of facilitas, the readiness to use language in any situation. Along with these translations, this new edition of Quintilian on the Teaching of Speaking and Writing contains an expanded scholarly introduction with an enhanced theoretical and historical section, an expanded discussion of teaching methods, and a new analytic guide directing the reader to a closer examination of the translations themselves. A contemporary approach to one of the most influential educational works in the history of Western culture, Quintilian on the Teaching of Speaking and Writing provides access not only to translations of key sections of Quintilian’s educational program but also a robust contemporary framework for the training of humane and effective citizens through the teaching of speaking and writing.

Book Big Fishes Make the Best Sushi

Download or read book Big Fishes Make the Best Sushi written by Pasi A. Pietikainen and published by PRJID. This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There Are No Enemies, Only Catalysts. Any big hitter, top dog or head honcho will have gone the extra mile to make an impression on the lives of their subordinates, from the very beginning of educating these subordinates and building up their awareness of the relevant codes and conventions, through to setting expectations and creating demand and momentum that will bear fruit regardless of disruptive intrusions. In business, by virtue of the positions of these big guns within the market, this translates into substantial advantages including pricing power, brand recognition, control of distribution channels, a satisfied customer base, and more. However, only the very best of the best of them - the Big-Fishes - are able to keep on dominating and growing within the lives of their subordinates, and can preemptively suppress their competition, in a manner that makes them Natural Monopolists. For a Rising Star in the midst of its own “period of disruption,” a period where any forward vision and guidance has become uncertain or even non-existent, the Monopolists are an invaluable tool for marketing, something akin to a GPS, and provide a foothold in terms of their standards as being adopted and co-opted as a Rising Star’s own, in the process of iteratively migrating from relative weakness to absolute strength. The Monopolists are not the enemy, but, on the contrary, they are catalysts. In his book “The Big Fishes Make the Best Sushi,” Pasi A. Pietikainen establishes a brave new world of Natural-Monopolist-powered Rising-Star-marketing, through tracing and classifying the prospects’ comfort-zone-autopiloted thinking into pronounced circumstances of the mind known as Occupational-Psychoses, and redefines marketing as getting the prospects caught responding to things that have already changed. Keywords: New Growth, Renewal, Disruptive Innovation, Asymmetric Marketing, Business Development, Industrial Management, Leadership, Management, Strategy, Research & Development, Preemptive Market Leader, Proprietary Technology, Start-Up, Innovator's Dilemma, Crossing the Chasm, Clayton M. Christensen, Geoffrey A. Moore

Book Legacy The Apocryphal Correspondence between Seneca and Paul

Download or read book Legacy The Apocryphal Correspondence between Seneca and Paul written by David Mitchell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-08-03 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 4th Century AD, a correspondence between the Apostle Paul and the Stoic philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca surfaced and circulated among the scholarly elect of the recently liberated, corporate Catholic Church. Although the letters are spurious in nature, no Church Father trained in deciphering the legitimacy of interpolated and amended writings of first century documents thought it necessary to denounce these letters as such. One even chose to endorse the pagan Seneca as beneficial to the Church on account of these letters. This endorsement actually secured the survival of Seneca´s other works and his impact on history´s notable scholars. Legacy: The Apocryphal Correspondence between Seneca and Paul follows the Correspondence as it toured Europe passing through the hands of the men who profoundly shaped the world we live in today. Would Seneca have had such an influence on Petrarch, John Calvin, or William Shakespeare (to name a few) had not a 4th century renegade crafted these letters?
