This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Inspiration of the Bible If the Bible is the Word of God; if it stands on an in finitely exalted plane, all alone; if it immeasurably tran scends all the greatest productions of human genius; then, we should naturally expect to find that it has unique cre dentials, that there are internal marks which prove it to be the handiwork of God, that there is conclusive evidence to show that its Author is superhuman, Divine. That these expectations are realized we shall now endeavor to show; that there is no reason whatever for any one to doubt the Divine inspiration of the Scriptures is the purpose of this book to demonstrate. As we examine the natural world we find innumerable proofs of the existence of a Personal Creator, and the same God who has manifested Himself thro' His works has also revealed His wisdom and will thro' His Word. The God of creation and the God of written revelation are One, and there are irrefutable arguments to show that the Almighty who made the heavens and the earth. Is also the Author of the Bible. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bible Inspiration: Plenary and VerbalInspiration, on the other hand, cons1sts in that actu ating, controlling, and guiding influence of the Holy Spirit, under which God's chosen messengers spoke and wrote the original Scriptures. In short, it denotes that extraordinary divine influence, under the direction and control of which all parts of the original Scriptures were recorded, whether they be direct revelations or mere historical facts. So that the entire Bible and every part of it was written by Inspiration, and there fore is true.N ow, Inspiration pertains, not so much to the writers, as to their writings. Accordingly, says Paul: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profit able, etc. 2 Tim. Iii. 16. The meaning of this passage is the same, whether it be rendered, All Scripture is inspired by God (revised Version), or, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. In both, the apostle equally attests the fact that all Scripture is divinely inspired. Inspiration, therefore, is to be viewed rather in the Book, than in the men; the Book was inspired for all time, the men merely for the time being. Most of the errors on this subject have arisen from viewing inspiration in the writers, rather than in their writings.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. How, it is asked, can the Scriptures, written, as they are, in the language, styles, and idioms of men, be properly declared to be the infallible Word of God? If I have done any thing towards a satisfactory solution of this chief difficulty, I shall not doubt of your agreeing with me in the main positions which I have advanced, as well as in the cardinal doctrine which I endeavor to defend, whether my auxiliary reasonings and illustrations do, or do not, in all respects meet your approbation. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of the Bible The following Essay on the Inspiration of the Bible, has been prepared from the first part of an interesting book entitled Lucilla, or the Reading of the Bible. Originally written in French by Rev. Mr. Monod, recently translated and published by the London Religious Tract Society. The design of the Author in that work is to show, in the first - place, that the Bible is the W ord of God, and consequently of Divine authority; and in the second place, that it is at once the privilege and the duty of all men to read it with reference to their personal salvation. The first part, the substance of which is given in the following pages, is in the form of Letters, and a Dialogue between a French Abbe, Mr. Lasalle and Lucilla, the iwife of Mr. L., which for several reasons it was thought best to abridge and condense into a continuous discourse. In doing this, great care has been taken to preserve Mr. Monod's argument entire, and his language so far as was practicable. The portions omitted belong not to the substance but the form of the discussion; and. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Doctrine of Inspiration Explained and Vindicated For more than a quarter Of a century it has been my privilege and duty, in giving theological instruction, to discuss the subject of Inspiration. As each year I have studied it afresh, my sense Of its importance has increased; and in examining the accumulating litera ture on the topic in books, reviews, and newspapers, I have felt moved to get closer to the original sources, and have determined to ask the attention of the public to a study Of it specially from a Biblical standpoint. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of Scripture, Vol. 2: Its Limits and Effects That such supernatural communication and direction were really concerned in the origin of Scripture, and form its distinctive characteristics: this is assumed as granted; not, indeed, as being necessarily self-evident, or incapable of dispute, but simply as belonging to another and earlier stage of inquiry than that here intended to be followed out. The object of the present work is not to discuss the fact of inspiration, still less the general Divine authority of Scripture, but (these being supposed to be admitted) to investigate the further and independent question of the practical results arising from such inspiration. In other words, to inquire how far, and in what respects, the Bible, thus written under supernatural direction, difere from what we might reason ably suppose it would have been if written without such supernatural direction. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration and Authority of Holy Scripture: A Study in the Literature of the First Five Centuries Canons came to be accepted by the Church as part of the one Revelation of God: and the fact that for fifteen centuries no attempt was made to formulate a definition of the doctrine of the inspiration of the Bible, testifies to the universal belief of the Church that the Scriptures were the handiwork of the Holy Ghost. This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pauline Theory of the Inspiration of Holy Scripture A subject which related to the operations of the Divine Spirit on the spirit of man, is, no doubt, intrinsically abstruse. Nevertheless, it has for many years appeared to me that there must be some influential cause besides at work, largely contributing to the present unsettled state of opinion on inspiration. What in the pure light of Scripture is clear, may become cloudy when compressed within the artificial enclosure of an arbitrary definition. Thus it really happened that the Pauline idea of inspiration has been lost sight of in the surrounding gloom of human improvement. In fact, the impossibility of adjusting the deductions of reason which proceed on uncertain principles, to the explicit statements of Holy Scripture, accounts for much of the present discontent occasioned by the inconsistencies abounding in many modern treatises on the subject. Book The Inspiration of Scripture

Download or read book The Inspiration of Scripture written by James Macgregor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration of Scripture: Its Nature and Extent Of the verb to inspire the literal meaning is, to breathe into and fill with one's breath. The ordinary meaning is, to fill and in form with the Spirit of one's mind. Thus a melody is said to be inspired by the musician, because it is not mere sound, but melodious sound, expressing his mind, his idea of the beautiful. Any true word of man is thus given by inspiration of the man, because it expresses his thought, or feeling, or desire, or will; because it is filled and informed by his mind or spirit - it is the inspiration of the man that makes the word to be his. And if the word should be committed to writing, so as to give per manent written expression to his idea, his thought, emotion, aspiration, resolve, it still retains its character, of being inspired of him, and becomes a scripture given by inspiration of the man. So when a scripture is said to be theopneust, God-inspzi'ed, or given by inspiration of God, the meaning is, that the word is God's, that it is filled and informed by His Spirit, that it expresses Hz}; mind, His thought, or feeling, or desire, or will; so that He speaks in the word, what the Scripture says is said by Him. This book was released on 2016-11-08 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Human Element in the Inspiration of the Sacred Scriptures But it appeared to me that men in Evangelical religious circles were for the most part too cautious in speaking with candor, or in making any conces sions not absolutely wrung from them by the force of circumstances, and that the tendency of much of the teaching in our Theological Seminaries is to sti e deep thorough and candid enquiry on all these points, and therefore to leave our rising Ministry quite unprepared for the work of the age before them. To adhere only to that which is old, seemed to me the final tendency of the exhortations of even such men as Dr. Mccosh when at Andover last summer. This was the great lesson he appeared to bring over from his past experiences in Europe. It is with regret I see so little real and hearty fellow ship with that which is living and therefore growing, and which must be more warmly welcomed by the religion that is to guide the coming age. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Inspiration and Authority of the Bible The First Edition of this book sold very rapidly, and enquiries have been repeatedly made for a second issue. That issue has been delayed so that I might give consideration to the criticisms passed upon some of the statements I have made. One reviewer suggested that I should shew "the constant Divine element in the Bible, the permanent Truth underneath all changing forms." At the risk of repetition I have, in response to that counsel, added the chapter on "Why the Bible Lives." But the greater part of the controversy excited by the book bore upon the problem of "the Inerrancy of the Bible." This accounts for the addition of chapters four and five. In reply to hints from those who have used the book in College Class work, I have expounded and confirmed some statements, sometimes in the text, and at others, in appended notes.
