This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'While there already exists a crowded body of publications addressing the effect of an aging population on the economy, this monograph is most outstanding in presenting a global, in-depth analysis of the implications thereby generated for 23 developed and developing countries. . . Scholars, researchers, and practitioners everywhere will benefit immensely from this comprehensive work.' – H.I. Liebling, Choice 'Ron Lee and Andrew Mason's Population Aging and the Generational Economy is a demographic and economic tour-de-force. Their collaborative, intercontinental. . . study of aging, consumption, labor supply, saving, and private and public transfers is the place to go to understand global aging and its myriad and significant economic challenges and opportunities.' – Laurence Kotlikoff, Boston University, US 'The culmination of. . . work by Lee, Mason, and their collaborators from around the world to extend Samuelson's framework to accommodate realistic demography, empirical measurement of age-specific earnings, consumption, tax payments, and benefit receipts, the studies. . . demonstrate the power of this integrated economic-demographic framework to advance our understanding of critical public policy challenges faced by countries at different stages of demographic transition and population aging.' – Robert Willis, University of Michigan, US 'Lee and Mason have done scholars and practitioners a magnificent service by undertaking this comprehensive, compelling, and supremely innovative examination of the economic consequences of changes in population age structure. The book is a bona fide crystal ball. It will be a MUST READ for the next decade!' – David Bloom, Harvard School of Public Health, US 'Population Aging and the Generational Economy provides an encompassing account of what we know about population aging and the impact that this process will have on our economies. It does not confine itself to the advanced industrial countries, where aging has already been largely studied, but adopts a truly global perspective. I am sure it will become a key reference for researchers, students and those involved in policy-making in areas that are affected by population aging.' – Giuliano Bonoli, Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP), Switzerland Over coming decades, changes in population age structure will have profound implications for the macroeconomy, influencing economic growth, generational equity, human capital, saving and investment, and the sustainability of public and private transfer systems. How the future unfolds will depend on key actors in the generational economy: governments, families, financial institutions, and others. This path-breaking book provides a comprehensive analysis of the macroeconomic effects of changes in population age structure across the globe. The result of a substantial seven-year research project involving over 50 economists and demographers from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States, the book draws on a new and comprehensive conceptual framework – National Transfer Accounts – to quantify the economic lifecycle and economic flows across generations. It presents comprehensive estimates of both public and private economic flows between generations, and emphasizes the global nature of changes in population age structure that are affecting rich and poor countries alike. This unique and informative book will prove an invaluable reference tool for a wide-ranging audience encompassing students, researchers, and academics in fields such as demography, aging, public finance, economic development, macroeconomics, gerontology, and national income accounting; for policy-makers and advisers focusing on areas of the public sector such as education, health, pensions, other social security programs, tax policy, and public debt; and for policy analysts at international agencies such as the World Bank, the IMF, and the UN.

Download or read book Everyday Social Justice and Citizenship written by Ann Marie Mealey and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-20 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social justice is a concept which is widely touted and lauded as desirable, yet its meaning may differ depending on whether its focus is on the underlying values of social justice, the more specific objectives these entail, or the actual practices or policies which aim to achieve social justice. In the current global political context, we need to re-examine what we mean by social justice, and demonstrate that "making a difference" and contributing to human flourishing is more achievable than this context would suggest. The book aims to increase our sense of being able to enact social justice, by showcasing different ways of contributing to social justice, and "making a difference" in different settings and different ways. Part 1 introduces a fluid and contextual approach to social justice. Part 2 examines social justice and faith perspectives, such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam and community organisations. Part 3 illustrates perspectives on children, the family, sport and local government. Part IV provides perspectives of social justice in education. Considering concepts of citizenship and social justice from a variety of contemporary perspectives, Everyday Social Justice and Citizenship should be considered essential reading for academics and students from a range of social scientific disciplines with an interest in social justice, as well as those working in education, community work, youth work and chaplaincy.

Download or read book Pelvic Floor Re education written by Bernhard Schüssler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pelvic Floor Re-education encompasses a variety of techniques for increasing the strength of, and control over, the pelvic floor muscles. These techniques are now emerging as an effective and viable alternative to surgery in the treatment of urinary incontinence and related conditions. This volume presents a reasoned, scientific approach to the use of pelvic floor re-education. Starting with the latest theories on anatomy, pathophysiology and possible causes of pelvic floor damage, the text then describes the importance of pelvic floor evaluation in determining the type of treatment required. A number of re-education techniques are assessed including isolated muscle exercise, vaginal cones, biofeedback control and electrical stimulation. Recent research work is also reviewed which allows the reader to evaluate the different modalities advocated in the management of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This White Paper sets out the Government's plans for a second phase of reforms of the police service in England and Wales. The reforms detailed have three broad objectives: i) the creation of dedicated neighbourhood policing teams across the country, including police constables, community support officers (CSOs) and wardens, designed to make the service more accessible, accountable and visible in the community; ii) further modernisation of the police workforce with more capacity for front-line policing, including 25,000 new community support officers and wardens by 2008, a new improvement agency to ensure policing is driven by intelligence, good practice and performance monitoring, and an enhanced training and career development structure to improve leadership and management skills at all levels; and iii) greater citizen involvement in determining how their local communities are policed, including minimum national service standards for every force by 2006, that can be built on locally. These reforms are designed to embed a strong, responsive customer service culture throughout the police service, and to help build trust and confidence in relations between the police and the public.
Download or read book Male Rape is a Feminist Issue written by C. Cohen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-02-13 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to problematize knowledge and practices regarding 'male rape' and its relationship to feminism, examining this issue from a Foucauldian perspective. Feminist constructions of 'male rape' can plausibly be claimed to operate as a 'regime of truth', but one must question whether this is running counter to patriarchy.
Download or read book Review of the Criminal Courts of England and Wales written by Robin Auld and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 2001 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report examines the purpose, structure and working of the criminal courts in the criminal justice system. In particular it considers: re-structuring and improving the composition of the criminal courts and the better matching of courts to cases; introducing a new structure for direction and better management of the criminal justice system; removing work from the criminal process that should not be there; improving preparation for trial and trial procedures and reform of the law of criminal evidence; simplification of the appellate structure. In proposing change attention is paid to the law of human rights and the potential of information technology to re-shape practices. However a central concern is the need to enhance public confidence in the whole system.
