Book excerpt: As the Twenty First Century dawns, America is shaken by the worst economic depression since 1929. Terrorism, unemployment, political, racial and social unrest pushes the nation to the brink of political collapse. Free trade, multiculturalism, uncontrolled immigration, moral decline and cultural decadence have divided the nation and undermined confidence in the two-party system, while the special interest groups that control the establishment exploit the nation for their own advancement. Onto the national stage steps George Burton; a young, charismatic, self-made billionaire and war hero, who uses his fortune to build a political movement designed to challenge the powerful political interest groups that control the establishment. Burton's National Association for a Populist America is quickly transformed into the most powerful nationalist movement in American history. Millions of people join the NAPA and help Burton to ignite a Nationalist Revolution. Burton's Americanism becomes a message of hope for a better future, the restoration of the American Dream, and the rebirth of the American Nation to millions, especially the Andersons, a typical American family living in Ohio, who must struggle to survive in the economic, social and moral displacement that has disrupted the lives of millions of Americans like them.

Book The Low FODMAP Diet Cookbook 150 Simple Flavorful Gut Friendly Recipes to Ease the Symptoms of IBS Celiac Disease Crohn s Disease Ulcerative Colitis and Other Digestive Disorders

Download or read book The Low FODMAP Diet Cookbook 150 Simple Flavorful Gut Friendly Recipes to Ease the Symptoms of IBS Celiac Disease Crohn s Disease Ulcerative Colitis and Other Digestive Disorders written by Sue Shepherd and published by The Experiment, LLC. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 150 delectable and digestible recipes perfectly suited to the low-FODMAP diet—scientifically proven to reduce symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other chronic digestive disorders The low-FODMAP diet is changing lives. If you suffer from the pain and discomfort of a digestive condition such as IBS, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or nonresponsive celiac disease, it just might change yours. The Complete Low-FODMAP Diet (cowritten by Sue Shepherd) introduced this revolutionary treatment, which is rapidly becoming the first-line recommendation by doctors and dietitians worldwide. FODMAP is an acronym that stands for a group of difficult-to-digest carbohydrates found in foods such as wheat, milk, beans, soy, and some fruits, vegetables, nuts, and sweeteners. More than three quarters of adults with IBS who reduce their intake of these foods gain relief. Now, this follow-up cookbook brings you 150 simple, delicious, and brand-new recipes that are full of flavor but low in FODMAPs. The mix includes: breakfasts to start the day off right (Blueberry Pancakes; Banana-Chocolate Chip Muffins) starters and sides for every occasion (Spring Rolls; Chicken, Bacon, and Pesto Mini Pizzas; Stuffed Roasted Bell Peppers) soups and salads full of flavor (Vietnamese Beef Noodle Salad; Creamy Seafood Soup) entrées that make you feel good (Chicken and Vegetable Curry; Speedy Spaghetti Bolognese; Beef Satay Stir-Fry with Peanut Sauce) desserts that satisfy (Flourless Chocolate Cake; Almond Cookies; Baked Blueberry Cheesecakes). The low-FODMAP diet puts an end to suffering in silence, fearing the possible consequences of every meal, or confining yourself to a handful of bland, “safe” foods. The only thing missing from this comprehensive collection is the FODMAPs—and you’d never know it!

Book Sovereign Sugar

  • Publisher : University of Hawaii Press
  • Release : 2014-03-31
  • ISBN : 0824840240
  • Pages : 398 pages

Download or read book Sovereign Sugar written by Carol A. MacLennan and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although little remains of Hawai‘i’s plantation economy, the sugar industry’s past dominance has created the Hawai‘i we see today. Many of the most pressing and controversial issues—urban and resort development, water rights, expansion of suburbs into agriculturally rich lands, pollution from herbicides, invasive species in native forests, an unsustainable economy—can be tied to Hawai‘i’s industrial sugar history. Sovereign Sugar unravels the tangled relationship between the sugar industry and Hawai‘i’s cultural and natural landscapes. It is the first work to fully examine the complex tapestry of socioeconomic, political, and environmental forces that shaped sugar’s role in Hawai‘i. While early Polynesian and European influences on island ecosystems started the process of biological change, plantation agriculture, with its voracious need for land and water, profoundly altered Hawai‘i’s landscape. MacLennan focuses on the rise of industrial and political power among the sugar planter elite and its political-ecological consequences. The book opens in the 1840s when the Hawaiian Islands were under the influence of American missionaries. Changes in property rights and the move toward Western governance, along with the demands of a growing industrial economy, pressed upon the new Hawaiian nation and its forests and water resources. Subsequent chapters trace island ecosystems, plantation communities, and natural resource policies through time—by the 1930s, the sugar economy engulfed both human and environmental landscapes. The author argues that sugar manufacture has not only significantly transformed Hawai‘i but its legacy provides lessons for future outcomes.

Book America s Unending Civil War

Download or read book America s Unending Civil War written by William Nester and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2025-06-30 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Civil War fascinates Americans like no other war in their history. Many Americans are still fighting some of the war’s issues in an Odyssey that stretches back to the first settlement and will persist until the end of time. The war itself was an Iliad of brilliant generals like Grant, Sherman, and Sheridan for the Union, or Lee, Jackson, and Forrest for the Confederacy; epic battles like Gettysburg and Chickamauga; epic sieges like Vicksburg and Petersburg; and epic naval combats such as Monitor versus Merrimack, or Kearsarge versus Alabama. It was America’s most horrific war, with more dead than all others combined. Around 625,000 soldiers and 125,000 civilians died from various causes, bringing the total to 750,000 people. Of 31 million Americans, 2.1 million northerners and 880,000 southerners donned uniforms. Why did eleven states eventually ban together to rebel against the United States? President Jefferson Davis began an answer when he said: ‘If the Confederacy falls, there should be written on its tombstone, Died of a Theory.’ That theory justified the enslavement of blacks by whites as a natural right and duty of a superior race over an inferior race; a theory, it was believed, that morally and economically elevated both races. Although slavery was the Civil War’s core cause, there were related chronic conflicts over the nature of government, citizenship, liberty, property, equality, wealth, race, identity, justice, crime, voting, power, and history – some of which issues have never entirely gone away. America’s Unending Civil War is unique among thousands of books on the subject. None before has explored the Civil War’s related and enduring conflicts of ideas and principles through four centuries of a nation’s history.

Book Writings on Reconciliation and Resistance

Download or read book Writings on Reconciliation and Resistance written by Will D. Campbell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If prophets are called to unveil and expose the illegitimacy of those principalities masquerading as "the right" and purportedly using their powers for "the good," then Will D. Campbell is one of the foremost prophets in American religious history. Like Clarence Jordan and Dorothy Day, Campbell incarnates the radical iconoclastic vocation of standing in contraposition to society, naming and smashing the racial, economic, and political idols that seduce and delude. In this anthology Campbell diagnoses a problem afflicting much of the church today. Zealous to make a difference in the world by acquiring the power of legislation and enforcement, Christians employ society's political science rather than the scandalous politics of Jesus. Although well-intentioned, Christians are, Campbell laments, mistakenly "up to our steeples in politics." Campbell's prescription is for disciples simply to incarnate the reconciliation that Christ has achieved. Rather than crafting savvy strategies and public policies, "Do nothing," Campbell counsels. "Be reconciled!" Yet his encouragement to "do nothing" is no endorsement of passivity or apolitical withdrawal. Rather, Campbell calls for disciples to give their lives in irrepressible resistance against all principalities and powers that would impede or deny our reconciliation in Christ--an unrelenting prophetic challenge leveled especially at institutional churches, as well as Christian colleges and universities. In sermons, difficult-to-access journal articles, and archival manuscripts, Campbell then develops what reconciliation looks like. Being the church, for example, means identifying with, and advocating for, society's "least one"-including violent offenders, disenfranchised minorities, and even militant bigots. In fact, in Campbell's ordo the scorned sectarian and disinherited denizen is often closer to the peculiar Christian genius than are society's well-healed powerbrokers. Disciples seeking to discern their calling can hardly do better than taking direction from this "bootleg," pulpitless preacher.

Book Solving the Brain Puzzle

Download or read book Solving the Brain Puzzle written by Bill Code and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Receiving a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, or some other brain-related illness is devastating. It feels like life, as you know it, is over, and you are powerless to do anything about it. Your future may seem like nothing but a long black tunnel of decreasing cognitive function, declining mobility, depression, and premature death. Even your physician may share this gloomy view. The good news is, you have more control over your brain health than you think! With the exception of cancer, many brain illnesses can be reversed through a combination of diet, exercise, supplements, proper sleep, avoiding and removing toxins from the body, and taking an epigenetic (turning good genes on and not-so-good genes off) approach to your healing. Several “jump start” techniques, including oxygen therapy, microbiota therapy (Gut Flora Transplant or GFT), photobiomodulation therapy (PMT), venous angioplasty, and even cannabis can enhance your recovery in as little as a few weeks. Never before have we had so many safe approaches with little or no side effects. Best of all, these treatments are now available on almost every continent, including Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. It is time we let go of our paternalistic concept that “doctor knows best.” This book describes all the above treatments and more, providing a roadmap to enhance your brain recovery. You may not feel like it right now, but you can win the brain game, and this book can show you how!
