Book The Inside Story of Jammu Kashmir State

Download or read book The Inside Story of Jammu Kashmir State written by S. P. Bakshi and published by K W Publishers Pvt Limited. This book was released on 2012 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a unique and path breaking book about the invasion and accession of the J&K state to India and its aftermath. The author, who was the Chief Education Officer of the J&K State Forces in Maharaja Hari Singh's times, was very well placed to watch history unfolding. He was very close to the Royal family and has, for the first time, provided some radical new inputs and insights into that exciting period. He has highlighted the Role of a Rasputin like Monk called MahantJi, who had begun to wield inordinate influence on the Maharaja. He filled his head with delusions of grandeur, and prevailed upon him to stay independent and accede neither to India or Pakistan. This prompted Pakistan to muster thousands of Tribal raiders and mount a brutal invasion of the J&K state. The tribesmen were recruited on the simple promise of loot and rape and they set the kingdom to fire and sword. This was a rather strange way of "liberating" the shocked people of the state. The heavily outnumbered State Forces fought heroically to save the state but the odds were simply overwhelming. After the war, the author was asked to compile the official history of the State Forces role in that conflict. In this book he recounts the grim and riveting saga of how the outnumbered state forces fought a tenacious battle to save the state. Finally Brig Rajinder Singh, the Chief of staff of the State Forces, personally sallied forth with a handful of men to stop the Raiders march on to Srinagar. He blew up the strategic Uri Bridge and held the Tribals off for three crucial days which enabled the Indian Army to fly in and save the valley. The subsequent exploits of the Indian Army liberated two - thirds of the state and completely overshadowed the heroic role of the state Forces. This book gives a first person account of that grim battle against impossible odds. The author provides a unique, personal and firsthand account of an historic era and of the issue of accession that has become a subject of so much controversy and conflict. It is amazing that this brutal tribal invasion orchestrated by Pakistan has today been completely erased from the minds of the people of Kashmir by Jihadi propagandists. They need to revisit that shocking period to understand that Pakistan has no love lost for the people of Kashmir and covets only the river waters of the state. It recounts the horrors of rape and massacre that Pakistan had visited upon the hapless people of J&K. This book is a must read for all scholars, statesmen and soldiers dealing with the nettlesome subject of Kashmir. The riveting first person account would equally interest the layman and documents a vital period of our nation's history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative, fresh, and vividly written account of the Kashmir conflict--from 1947 to the present The India-Pakistan dispute over Kashmir is one of the world's incendiary conflicts. Since 1990, at least 60,000 people have been killed--insurgents, civilians, and military and police personnel. In 2019, the conflict entered a dangerous new phase. India's Hindu nationalist government, under Narendra Modi, repealed Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir's autonomous status and divided it into two territories subject to New Delhi's direct rule. The drastic move was accompanied by mass arrests and lengthy suspension of mobile and internet services. In this definitive account, Sumantra Bose examines the conflict in Kashmir from its origins to the present volatile juncture. He explores the global context of the current situation, including China's growing role, as well as the human tragedy of the people caught in the bitter dispute. Drawing on three decades of field experience in Kashmir, Bose asks whether a compromise settlement is still possible given the ascendancy of Hindu nationalism in India and the complex geopolitical context.

Book Jammu Kashmir A Victim

Download or read book Jammu Kashmir A Victim written by Daya Sagar and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After 1945, the face of Indian State of J&K was allowed to be painted by some to the benefit of external and internal disruptive elements. Not only this, questions like delayed accession of Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir, ‘conditional’ accession, Article 370 of Constitution of India, dual ‘citizenship’ for subjects of Jammu & Kashmir and ‘commitments’ made with Kashmiries have not been adequately addressed even by Government of India for six decades. Even Art370 of Constitution of India has been pushed into unfair controversies. Affairs concerning the Indian state of J&K have been the victim of mishandling. Local J&K political leadership has been resting her stakes more only on local governance. In 1950s the school children in J&K were told stories about one Maqbool Sherwani (a 19 yr youth who stood against ‘Pakistani’ invaders in October 1947) where as in 2014 one would hear more of Maqbool Bhat (founder of JKLF who was sentenced to death in 1968, who allegedly also masterminded hijacking of Indian aeroplane in 1971 to Lahore) who was hanged in Tihar Jail on 11th February 1984. All these years focus has remained more on Kashmir Valley only (just 10% of whole area), still common man there has been no less a sufferer, one would ask ‘Why’?

Book Caught in the Crossfire

Download or read book Caught in the Crossfire written by Naseem Akhtar Khan and published by Pen and Sword Military. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A memoir challenging false international narrative about Pakistan, offering insights from four decades of counterintelligence experience. The author believes that all international strategic manoeuvrings in the region, mostly rely on information that is entirely fabricated and portrayed by Pakistan’s adversaries to harm its national interests. In his opinion, knowing a realistic picture of Pakistan and the Pakistan army in its true perspective, is important not only for people inside the country but also for the international community, so that they may pursue their relationships and cooperation in the region based on ground realities. Considering his personal experiences in security and counterintelligence operations during last four decades, he thought of writing this book. He believes that his narrative provides a virtuous material for analysts to ponder history through an authentic premise and predict futuristic security scenarios based on a realistic perspective. To present his arguments with facts and figures, in a cohesive manner, the author has presented the narrative in shape of a memoir of his lifelong experiences in a cohesive manner, taking full measure of the individuals, institutions and organizations that made a strong impression on his life. During the process, an effort has been made to take the readers along the same curve he followed so that they can clearly grasp the dynamics that drives the life of a Pakistani soldier.
