Book Status of the CEBAF Injector

Download or read book Status of the CEBAF Injector written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The injector for the CEBAF cw superconducting linac consists of a 100 keV electron gun, two choppers and a buncher. A short, room temperature, graded-Beta, sidecoupled accelerator is used to increase the electron beam energy to about 500 keV to produce a good match into the first superconducting accelerator cavity. Eighteen five-cell superconducting cavities are used to produce an energy of 45 MeV before injection into the first linac. All of the room temperature centerline hardware has been installed on a strongback. Testing of the 100 keV electron gun and transport system is in progress. The rf system for the choppers and buncher is nearly complete and the first rf tests are in progress.

Book Multipass Beam Breakup in the CEBAF Superconducting Linac

Download or read book Multipass Beam Breakup in the CEBAF Superconducting Linac written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam breakup (BBU) instabilities in superconducting linacs are a significant issue due to the potentially high Q values of the cavity higher order modes (HOMs). The CEBAF accelerator, which employs high CW current and 5- pass recirculation through two superconducting linacs, poses unique instability problems. An experimental investigation of multipass BBU along with energy recovery has been completed using a single recirculation through the CEBAF injector linac. Experimental results are compared with computer simulation of multipass BBU.

Book The CEBAF Superconducting Accelerator An Overview

Download or read book The CEBAF Superconducting Accelerator An Overview written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CEBAF accelerator is a CW linac based on RF superconductivity and making use of multiple recirculation. Its major components are a 50 MeV injector, two linacs segments of 0.5 GeV energy gain each, and recirculator arcs connecting the two linac segments. Each linac segment consists of 25 cryomodules, separated by warm sections with quadrupoles, steering magnets, and beam diagnostics. Each cryomodule contains 8, 1500 MHz, 5-cell, Cornell type cavities with waveguide couplers for fundamental power and HOM damping, each cavity being powered by its own klystron. Recirculator arcs are vertically stacked, large radius, strong focusing beam lines that minimize synchrotron radiation effects. A high quality (delta-E/E~10 & -4, Xi ~ 10^-9 m) beam of 200 micro-amp, 100% duty factor, with 0.5 GeV

Book Handbook of Applied Superconductivity Volume 2

Download or read book Handbook of Applied Superconductivity Volume 2 written by B Seeber and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Applied Superconductivity, Two-Volume Set covers all important aspects of applied superconductivity and the supporting low-temperature technologies. The handbook clearly demonstrates the capabilities of superconducting technologies and illustrates how to implement these technologies in new areas of academic and industrial research and development. Volume One provides an introduction to the theoretical background of both low and high Tc superconductivity, followed by details of the basic hardware such as wires, tapes, and cables used in applications of superconductivity and the necessary supporting science and technology. Theoretical discussions are in most cases followed by examples of real designs, fabrication techniques, and practical instrumentation guidance. A final chapter examines materials properties at low temperatures. Volume Two provides examples of current and future applications of superconductivity. It covers medical systems for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), high field magnets for research, superconducting magnets for accelerators, industrial systems for magnetic separation, and transportation systems. The final chapters look to future applications in power and superconducting electronics. With fully referenced, peer-refereed contributions from experts in various fields, this two-volume work is an essential reference for a wide range of scientists and engineers in academic and industrial research and development environments.
