Download or read book The Influence of Stiffening Rings on the Strength of Thin Cylindrical Shells Under External Pressure written by Charles Trilling and published by . This book was released on 1935 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report considers the strength of the frames or circumferential stiffening rings of thin circular cylindrical shells subjected to external pressure, and the influence of the size of the stiffeners upon the strength of the shell."--P. [1].

Book The Stress Analysis of Pressure Vessels and Pressure Vessel Components

Download or read book The Stress Analysis of Pressure Vessels and Pressure Vessel Components written by S. S. Gill and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-04-06 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stress Analysis of Pressure Vessels and Pressure Vessel Components, Volume 3 deals with the basic principles and concepts underlying stress analysis of pressure vessels and related components used in the nuclear energy industry. Among the components subjected to stress analysis are pressure vessel branches, pressure vessel ends, local attachments, and flanges. Smooth and mitered pipe bends, externally pressurized vessels, and creep effects in structures are also analyzed. This book is comprised of 11 chapters that explore the main problems of structural analysis related to the design of metal pressure vessels and components. After introducing the reader to the basic principles of stress analysis, it turns to nozzles in pressure vessels. The shakedown analysis of radial nozzles in spheres is described for pressure, thrust, moment, shear, and combined loading. The problem of pressure vessel ends is treated next, along with local loads applied to pressure vessel shells at nozzles and local attachments such as support points. An analysis of pressure vessels using a computer is also presented. The final chapter describes the analysis of ligament stresses in pressure vessels and includes a discussion on arrays of holes with reinforcement. This volume will be of value to nuclear and structural engineers as well as designers and research workers in the nuclear industry.

Book Buckling of Thin Metal Shells

Download or read book Buckling of Thin Metal Shells written by J.G. Teng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-06-28 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin-walled metal shell structures are highly efficient in their use of material, but they are particularly sensitive to failure by buckiling. Many different forms of buckling can occur for different geometries and different loading conditions. Because this field of knowledge is both complex and industrially important, it is of great interest and concern in a wide range of industries. This book presents a compilation and synthesis of a wealth of research, experience and knowledge of the subject. Information that was previously widely scattered throughout the literature is assembled in a concise and convenient form that is easy to understand, and state-of-the-art research findings are thoroughly examined. This book is useful for those involved in the structural design of silos, tanks, pipelines, biodigestors, chimneys, towers, offshore platforms, aircraft and spacecraft. Buckling of Thin Metal Shells is essential reading for designers, researchers and code writers involved with thin-walled metal shell structures.

Book Pressure Vessel Design Manual

Download or read book Pressure Vessel Design Manual written by Dennis R. Moss and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2012-12-31 with total page 825 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressure vessels are closed containers designed to hold gases or liquids at a pressure substantially different from the ambient pressure. They have a variety of applications in industry, including in oil refineries, nuclear reactors, vehicle airbrake reservoirs, and more. The pressure differential with such vessels is dangerous, and due to the risk of accident and fatality around their use, the design, manufacture, operation and inspection of pressure vessels is regulated by engineering authorities and guided by legal codes and standards. Pressure Vessel Design Manual is a solutions-focused guide to the many problems and technical challenges involved in the design of pressure vessels to match stringent standards and codes. It brings together otherwise scattered information and explanations into one easy-to-use resource to minimize research and take readers from problem to solution in the most direct manner possible. - Covers almost all problems that a working pressure vessel designer can expect to face, with 50+ step-by-step design procedures including a wealth of equations, explanations and data - Internationally recognized, widely referenced and trusted, with 20+ years of use in over 30 countries making it an accepted industry standard guide - Now revised with up-to-date ASME, ASCE and API regulatory code information, and dual unit coverage for increased ease of international use

Book Effect of Eccentricity of Stiffeners on the General Instability of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Under Torsion

Download or read book Effect of Eccentricity of Stiffeners on the General Instability of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Under Torsion written by Manahem Baruch and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analysis of eccentrically stiffened cylindrical shells, developed earlier, is applied to buckling under torsion. In the calculations about 350 shells covering a wide range of shell and stiffener geometries have been considered. It is found that for long cylinders rings are the important stiffeners, and internal rings stiffen more than external rings. For short cylinders the effect is inverted, external rings yielding higher critical loads than internal rings. Stringers have little effect in long cylinders, but in short cylinders they stiffen the shell against buckling in torsion as much as rings. Outside stringers always stiffen the shell more than inside stringers. (Author).
