Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Real Lincoln The Genius of History will surely vindicate her right to truth, though a whole people conspire against her. So the man behind the mask, whether it be placed there by himself or others, must at length come forth in his own true character. We have seen, as has been well said, the Lincoln legend in actual process of evolution, and cannot again be surprised at the historical myths that have come down to us from more uncritical ages. But legend and myth must give way before conscientious investigation, an investigation which brings out suppressed facts and points an unerring finger at fallacies and fabrications. Book A Lincoln Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Lincoln Classic Reprint written by Ross F. Lockridge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-02-25 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A. Lincoln The modern Lincoln quest is to know Lincoln personally. Studies are being especially directed toward disclosing the human elements that made Lincoln what he was. The Lincoln of history is well known; but the quest to find out how he became what he was is endless. For young students who are for the first time making his acquaintance, and for adult readers who do not wish to labor through critical biographies, a short and simple portrayal of the human aspects of the historic Lincoln may be helpful. The presenting of such a narrative is the object of this book. The author has made an effort to seek out all the con tacts of his life, particularly the more obscure ones. Almost every book of the many hundreds that have been written about Lincoln has been given more or less careful study. All the places in which he ever lived or where any important episodes in his life took place have been visited again and again. Above all else, all existing records of Lincoln's actual words have been carefully studied in their various relationships. Book Lincoln Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lincoln Classic Reprint written by A. Clark and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lincoln This history is mainly taken from MS. sources, viz., the College registers and muniments. In all places of special importance the actual words of the documents have been given, or a translation of them. The dates arc, throughout, those of the year beginning on January 1. At some very interesting periods in the history, the Civil War, for example, and the Commonwealth, the College records are altogether silent, and it has been necessary to fill up the gaps from external sources, such as the Register of the Parliamentary Visitors, and the contemporary notes of Brian Twyne and Anthony Wood. In its later stages, the history of the College involves matter even of personal controversy. I have, therefore, submitted none of my proof-sheets to the censure of friends, in order that, for the opinions expressed, I, and I only, might be responsible. Download or read book The World s Lincoln Classic Reprint written by John Drinkwater and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-05 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The World's Lincoln But even where the witnesses have been diligent, more than much remains in obscurity. Boswell on Johnson and Pepys on himself tell us a great deal that is significant, but their copious notes leave untold more than they tell. It must inevitably be so. The full story of a man's life would take as long to read as to live, and twenty times as long to write. The amplest compilation of facts, say Lockhart on Scott or Moore on Byron, amounts at last to a slight and more or less fortuitous selection. Far from being regrettable, this is fortunate; but it is a fact. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Dual Personality of Abraham Lincoln

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Dual Personality of Abraham Lincoln: A Brief Psychological Study This paper in no sense denies that the character of Abraham Lincoln was singularly rich in what may be re, garded as contrasting if indeed not conflicting strains of personality. It aims simply to indicate the psychological sources of error and scientific unreliability of much that has heretofore been regarded as evidence, thereby inaugurating a rather unusual criteria in the consideration of historical data. Applying this method to a study of what is regarded popularly as the most flagrant example of contradictoriness in the life of Lincoln, namely his Religion, we find the element of contradiction in this as in other instances to be found in the individual differences existing among the many witnesses. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life of Lincoln Standing like a tower, Our children shall behold his fame, The kindly-earnest, brave, foreseeing man, Sagacious, patient, dreading praise not blame, New birth of our new soil, the first American. Born on the twelfth day of February, 1809, Abraham Lincoln was a descendant of those hardy pioneers, who with no capital but strength and courage, a keen axe and an unerring ri e, carved new states from the solid Wilder ness, and built a great nation. In 1780, the grandfather of Abraham Lincoln, after whom President Lincoln was named, moved from Virginia to the fertile valleys of Kentucky, to settle near his friend and relative, Daniel Boone. Choosing a pleasant location, he built a log cabin and for six years worked diligently at clearing his new farm, always with his ri e near at hand, for the Kentucky forests were full of Indians, who, hidden behind trees or in thickets, watched for an opportunity to kill the white man and his helpless family, or to burn and destroy their dwellings. He was the genius of common sense. His steps forward were always well timed, and some one said that he was never oppressed with that curse of genius, the self-consciousness of petty things. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Lincoln Ideals, His Personality and Principles as Reflected in His Own Words I was born Feb. 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. My parents were both born in Virginia, of undistinguished families second families, perhaps I should say. My mother, who died in my tenth year, was of a family of the name of Hanks, some of whom now reside in Adams, and others in Macon counties, Illi nois. My paternal grandfather, Abraham Lincoln, emigrated from Rockingham County, Virginia, to Kentucky, about 1781 or 2, where, a year or two later, he was killed by indians, not in battle, but by stealth, when he was laboring to open a farm in the forest. His ancestors, who were quakers, went to Virginia from Berks County, Pennsylvania. An effort to identify them with the New England family of the same name ended in nothing more definite, than a similarity of Christian names in both families, such as Enoch, Levi, Mordecai, Solomon, Abraham, and the like.
