Book Charmed Meson Production and Decay Properties at the Psi 3770

Download or read book Charmed Meson Production and Decay Properties at the Psi 3770 written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A remeasurement of the resonance near E/sub cm/ = 3.77 GeV in the ee− annihilation is presented. The properties of the resonance are used to deduce branching fractions of charmed mesons into hadronic final states. Several previously unseen decay modes are reported. Decays into Cabibbo suppressed final states are observed. The inclusive properties of D meson decays are studied, including strangeness and charged particle multiplicity. The semileptonic branching fractions for D° and D/sup -+/ are measured, providing a determination of the relative lifetimes of these particles.

Book Charmed Mesons Produced in E e Annihilation

Download or read book Charmed Mesons Produced in E e Annihilation written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We shall begin our review by summarizing the first experimental indications for the existence of charm as obtained from experiments in e+e− annihilation. This will include a brief discussion of the role of charm in the understanding of the ? mesons, as well as the unraveling of the intricate structure present in the e+ e− total hadronic cross section. Next we shall discuss the discovery of the D°, and D+, and detail those properties crucial to their identification as charmed particles. Following will be a review of the properties of the D° and D+ learned through studies at the ?(3770) resonance, Compelling evidence will be summarized indicating that this state decays nearly exclusively into D{bar D}, thus making it particularly useful in establishing inclusive and exclusive D branching fractions. Our discussion of branching fractions will include two particularly important D decay modes, D°→?+?− and D°→K+−. These processes are suppressed relative to D°→K−?+ in the standard charm model, and thus serve as a critical test of that theory. This will be followed by a discussion of the D semileptonic decay modes which provide useful information on the D° and D+ lifetimes. Turning our attention to the data collected beyond the ?(3770) we will discuss the properties and production mechanisms of the excited charm mesons, the D*° and the D*+. D production just above the ?(3770) appears to be dominated by the three quasi-two-body processes e+ e− → D{bar D}, D*{bar D} + {bar D}*D, and D*{bar D}*, in accordance with early theoretical predictions. The relative amounts of each process, on the other hand, is somewhat surprising, and has led to considerable theoretical speculation. Finally, we will summarize evidence for the existence of the F meson which is as yet not on as solid a footing as the D°, D+ isodoublet.

Book Heavy Flavour Physics a Probe of Nature s Grand Design

Download or read book Heavy Flavour Physics a Probe of Nature s Grand Design written by Società italiana di fisica and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures collected in this book present a comprehensive review of the current knowledge of heavy-quark physics, from the points of view of both theory and experiment. Heavy Flavour Physics has accomplished enormous progress during the last few years: the last heavy quark has been discovered and the quality of the collected data on the other relatively lighter quarks has dramatically improved. On the theory side, noticeable progress has been reported on new calculations of decay rates based on various techniques, such as QCD sum rules, heavy-quark mass expansion and lattice QCD. The theory of heavy quark production is constantly improving and awaiting new results. Nevertheless there are strong reasons to believe that the Standard Model of High Energy Physics is incomplete. It exhibits very peculiar patterns for which it offers no explanation. The basic constituents of matter are arranged into three seemingly identical generations or families of quarks and leptons, differing merely in their masses. The pattern in the fermion masses, why they are families and why there are three of them is not yet understood. Furthermore it is known that at least within the standard model there is an intimate connection between the replication of families and the gateway of CP violation, in addition, the latter phenomenon is a crucial ingredient in explaining why our universe is made up almost exclusively of matter rather than being more or less matter-antimatter symmetric. How and to what extent can Heavy Flavour Physics impact on these questions? Does it offer novel windows onto New Physics beyond the Standard Model in general and onto new symmetries, such as Supersymmetry in particular? These questions constitute the central theme of this book. The material treated in this publication may serve as reference for the segment of the high-energy community actively engaged in heavy-quark physics.

Book Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model

Download or read book Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model written by Paul G Langacker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-23 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.
