Book The Impingement of a Circular Jet Normal to a Flat Surface with and Without Cross Flow

Download or read book The Impingement of a Circular Jet Normal to a Flat Surface with and Without Cross Flow written by Paul E. Colin and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flow field resulting from a circular jet impinging on a flat surface in a main cross-flowing stream was investigated. A cross-flowing stream produces considerable changes to the flow field of a jet impinging on a flat surface. Separation of the radial wall jet occurs along a horse-shoe shaped line with the formation of a separation bubble whose dimensions can be large compared to the jet nozzle diameter for large values of the jet to free stream velocity ratio. Because of the very high levels of turbulence encountered in the separation bubble, measurements with pressure or electrical probes were restricted to limited regions of the flow field. As a result, extensive use was made of flow visualization techniques. The results presented bring out some of the typical characteristics of the flow field investigated. An analysis is proposed to explain and predict some of these characteristics. (Author).

Book Impingement Jet Cooling in Gas Turbines

Download or read book Impingement Jet Cooling in Gas Turbines written by R.S. Amano and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2014-05-28 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the requirement for enhanced cooling technologies on modern gas turbine engines, advanced research and development has had to take place in field of thermal engineering. Among the gas turbine cooling technologies, impingement jet cooling is one of the most effective in terms of cooling effectiveness, manufacturability and cost. The chapters contained in this book describe research on state-of-the-art and advanced cooling technologies that have been developed, or that are being researched, with a variety of approaches from theoretical, experimental, and CFD studies. The authors of the chapters have been selected from some of the most active researchers and scientists on the subject. This is the first to book published on the topics of gas turbines and heat transfer to focus on impingement cooling alone.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Joint Institute for Aeronautics and Acoustics at Stanford University was established in October 1973 to provide an academic environment for long-term cooperative research between Stanford and NASA Ames Research Center. Since its establishment, the In stitute has wnducted theoretical and experimental work in the areas of aerodynamics, acoustics, fluid mechanics, flight dynamics, guid ance and control, and human factors. This research has involved Stanford faculty, research associates, graduate students, and many distinguished visitors in collaborative efforts with the research staff of NASA Ames Research Center. The occasion of the Institute's tenth anniversary was used to reflect back on where that research has brought us, and to consider where our endeavors should be directed next. Thus, an International Symposium was held to review recent advances in the fields relevant to the activities of the Institute and to discuss the areas of research to be undertaken in the future. This anniversary was also chosen a.."1 an opportunity to honor one of the Institute's founders and its di rector, Professor Krishnamurty Karamcheti. It has been his creative inspiration that has provided the ideal research environment at the Joint Institute. The International Symposium on Recent Advances in Aero dynamics and Aconstics was held at Stanford University, Stanford, California, U.S.A., August 22-26, 198:~. Thirty-five distinguished scientists were invited to present a comprehensive review on the fol lowing subject areas: unsteady aerodynamics, jets and shear layers, V /STOL aircraft aerodynamics, rotor dynamics and aerodynamics,.
