Book excerpt: Human capital has been recognized as one of the most valuable assets to business, and this fact is especially true for small businesses. This cross-sectional quantitative research explored the impact of relationships between transformational leadership practices, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment within three Southwestern small business enterprises using a purposive sampling. Freedom to excel, autonomous decision-making abilities, and collaborative relationships are all-encompassing for healthy leader-follower dynamics within the small business community according to the literature. From three businesses 36 Leaders and 103 followers participated. The five research questions and 10 null hypotheses were tested using three instruments: The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI), Job in General (aJIG/aJDI), and Organizational Commitment Scale (OCQ) along with five demographic questions. Correlations and regressions were used to find whether a relationship exists between leadership and employees’ satisfaction and commitment to the organization. The null hypothesizes were rejected.
