Book The Impact of Intellectual Capital on Organizational Effectiveness

Download or read book The Impact of Intellectual Capital on Organizational Effectiveness written by Tannu Verma and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to significant global market opportunities and challenges, organizations are seeking to become strategy-focused, encouraging the management researchers globally to study strategically progressive and fruitful management practices that could maximize overall organizational effectiveness. Intellectual capital is widely considered as a dynamic value concept which positively affects the organizational performance (Bontis, 1998). Since organizational effectiveness is considered as a wholesome and a comprehensive measure to gauge organizational performance (Lee and Choi, 2003), this study attempts to explore the impact of intellectual capital and its components on organizational effectiveness of public and private sectors in India. Collective sample response of 420 respondents, from both the sectors, was collected through standardized questionnaires and subjected to regression analysis through SPSS v20. The findings reveal that the impact of intellectual capital on organizational effectiveness is higher in public sector organizations than in private sector organizations. Human capital and structural capital, and not customer capital, impact the organizational effectiveness in public sector organizations, whereas all the three components of intellectual capital impact organizational effectiveness in private sector organizations.

Book Intellectual Capital and Organizational Performance

Download or read book Intellectual Capital and Organizational Performance written by Francesca Sgrò and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides empirical evidence on the relationship between intellectual capital (IC) and organizational performance of social cooperative enterprises (SCEs) that work in the non-profit sector. The author presents a survey of a sample of SCEs located in Italy to identify the main components of IC for SCEs and to investigate the effect of IC sub-dimensions on a firm's performance. The book thus presents new empirical evidence on IC in non-profit organizations along with a revelation of the main value drivers by using the survey method as an IC measurement tool combined with a principal components analysis. Finally, considering the difficulties related to the data gathering process in the non-profit sector and in measuring intangible assets, this book helps in increasing the understanding of IC features with a focus on the hybrid organization as SCEs.

Book The Dynamics of Intellectual Capital in Current Era

Download or read book The Dynamics of Intellectual Capital in Current Era written by Muhammad Shahbaz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an authoritative, inter-disciplinary, and up-to-date survey of relevant concepts, research areas, and applications of intellectual capital. Until now, the literature had lacked a comprehensive analysis of intellectual capital (IC) in regard to sustainability, block chain, and other related technologies and virtual environments. This book shows the importance of intellectual capital for contemporary organizations: how it contributes to theories of the firm, how it affects organizational performance, how is it linked with the organizational ambidexterity, how it connects to the technological developments like block chain and digital technologies, and what would be its association with sustainability. Central to our thesis is the systemic nature of intellectual capital in organizations: how intellectual capital interacts with and complements other organizational resources and developments. This book also shows as to how applying the notion of intellectual capital to organizations requires us to consider how intangible forms of capital differ from more traditional forms, implying the need for a theory of firm that accommodates a concept of dynamic, heterogeneous intellectual capital. Although a lot has been written on IC, this book proves to be the first with scholastic and action-oriented perspective on as to how a firm can manage its IC to create value. This book also demonstrates as to how the subjective aspects of IC can be measured and what can be their strategic implications. A discussion on IC disclosure also appears in the latter part of the book. In doing so, this book reveals as to how the value creation of today’s businesses is driven by the IC. This book also introduces the readers to the new application of IC and its association with the contemporary disruptive technologies. This is a book for IC researchers and academicians who want to understand the diverse aspects of IC, for business managers who want to be at the cutting edge, for those early in their careers who seek a challenging new path, and for the top-level managers of the world who have their eye on the future.

Book Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital

Download or read book Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital written by Hsiu-Yueh Hsu and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neoclassical economics brings up the importance of knowledge and "capital" to the business processes. Followed the stream of the importance of knowledge and capital, this current research attempts to clarify the intertwined properties between intellectual capital (IC) and knowledge management (KM), and at the same time, establish an integrated framework for either IC or KM fields. With very little information about KM practices in the United States, this research investigated KM with a process perspective and its relationship to IC. The focus is to examine the effects of human capital and innovation capital on organizational effectiveness, accounting for the mediation of knowledge process capabilities and structural capital with organizational effectiveness in turn leading to a firm's competitive advantage. One hundred and twenty-five usable questionnaires were collected through an email and Web survey method. Respondents to the questionnaire were middle to top managers who worked in companies that held patents in various industries. Partial Least Squares was utilized to estimate the theoretical model; the unidimensionality, discriminant validity, convergent validity, and reliability were also established. Four out of six research hypotheses were supported by the results, and they were: (1) Human capital had an indirect effect on organizational effectiveness via the paths of knowledge management process capability; (2) Human capital had an indirect effect on organizational effectiveness via the paths of structural capital; (3) Knowledge process capability had a positive effect on organizational effectiveness; (4) Organizational effectiveness had a positive influence on organizational competitive advantage. The hypotheses related to innovation capital were not supported by the model estimation and path analyses. However, the revised model opened up three significant paths when one path: from innovation capital to human capital was added. These three paths supported the position that innovation capital was facilitated by human capital. Several contributions of this research project were realized. First, an integrated model of KM and IC was empirically tested. Second, emergent KM processes as enablers of organizational effectiveness and the relationship with other IC components, including human networks, knowledge infrastructure, and organization configuration, were established. Third, the importance of innovation capital and its potential influence on organizational performance and competitive advantage was investigated and could be important to further academic research and organizational practitioners. A revised model was presented that may lead to future research in this area.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroeconomic research on human capital - the stock of human capabilities and knowledge - has been extensively published but to date the literature has lacked a comprehensive analysis of human capital within the organization. The Oxford Handbook of Human Capital has been designed to fill that gap, providing an authoritative, inter-disciplinary, and up to date survey of relevant concepts, research areas, and applications. Specially commissioned contributions from over 40 authors reveal the importance of human capital for contemporary organizations, exploring its conceptual underpinnings, relevance to theories of the firm, implications for organizational effectiveness, interdependencies with other resources, and role in the future economy. Unlike neoclassical macroeconomic concepts of human capital, human capital in organizations is shown to be dynamic and heterogeneous, requiring new theories and management frameworks. The systemic role of human capital is explored, revealing it as the lynchpin of social, structural and other forms of intangible and tangible capital. Connections between human capital and organizational performance are investigated from HR management, procurement, alignment, value appropriation, and accounting perspectives. Links between micro and macro perspectives are provided through analyses of inter firm human capital mobility, national and regional human capital formation regimes and industry employment relations practices. This Handbook is designed for scholars and graduate students of organization and management theory, strategy, entrepreneurship, knowledge and intellectual capital, accounting, IT, HR, IR, economic sociology and cultural studies. For policy makers and practitioners it should provide an up to date guide to the nature and role of human capital in contemporary organizations and the roles that government, industry and other extra firm institutions can play in facilitating its development.

Book Intellectual Capital in Organizations

Download or read book Intellectual Capital in Organizations written by Patricia Ordoñez de Pablos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a global competitive economic environment, resources that are scarce or irreplicable are a source of sustained competitive advantage for companies and organizations. Knowledge-based resources are a major and increasing driver of long term competitive advantage. Most accounting standards however do not allow for knowledge-based resource calculations, including the most important of these, intellectual capital. Intellectual capital is the collective knowledge, documented and otherwise, of individuals in an organization. In the absence of accounting standards to numerically evaluate intellectual capital, some institutions have devised their own reports and statements. But why should companies, universities, and research centers measure these resources? How are intellectual capital statements built? How does one set targets, and what indicators should they include? This book reviews the development of the field of intellectual capital reporting, including core concepts, latest developments, the main components of intellectual capital, how a statement is built, and key indicators of each component. It further analyzes experiences from a variety of pioneering companies and institutions around the globe in measuring intellectual capital, including case studies from educational and research institutions, and provides crucial transnational comparisons. Authors Ordóñez de Pablos and Edvinsson examine the challenges and next steps for the harmonization of intellectual capital reports, consider the creation of a special international agency for intellectual capital reporting standards, and evaluate the weaknesses of current standards and how they might be overcome.
