Book The Impact of ICT Integration on Students Academic Performance in Business Subjects A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Lagos Nigeria

Download or read book The Impact of ICT Integration on Students Academic Performance in Business Subjects A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Lagos Nigeria written by Olufemi Adebayo and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of this study is to ascertain the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) integration on students’ academic performance in Nigerian Secondary Schools. As a guide to the study, answers will be sought to the following questions: What is the level of availability and usage of ICT facilities in secondary schools in Lagos State? What is attitude of respondents towards ICT application effect on academic performance? What is the relationship between the usage of ICT and academic performance? What are the constraints to the effective usage of ICT? Change is expected in the pattern of teaching and learning process from the conventional method to a more dynamic and flexible one, presumed learner-centered. The learner-centred approach empowers students; they are in control of their activities, materials and pace of learning, which places them in the centre of the learning process and enhances independent learning. However, despite the glaring relevance of ICT in education, coupled with the huge capital investment of both Federal and State governments through ICT driven project known as “schoolNET” and donations from Non-Governmental Organizations to Secondary schools in Nigeria, some teachers are still reluctant, ineffective and unproductive in using ICT facilities to improve students’ academic performance, especially in Business subjects. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have become inseparable entities in all aspects of human life. The use of ICT has fundamentally changed the practices and procedures of nearly all forms of endeavour within business, governance and civil service. In education, ICT has begun to have a presence but the impact has not been as extensive as in other fields of endeavour. The moving of the world to digital media and information has made the role of ICT in education to become more important and this importance will continue to grow and develop in the 21st century. Information and communication technology (ICT) is an indispensable part of the contemporary world. In fact, culture and society have to be adjusted to meet the challenges of the knowledge age. Undoubtedly ICT has impacted on the quality and quantity of teaching, learning and research in tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.

Book excerpt: This research examines information communication technology (ICT) integration into school administration: A case study of secondary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The research uses a cross-sectional design. Purposeful sampling was used to select 62 of 141 administrators in Ekiti South Senatorial District public secondary schools of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The instrument used to collect data for the study was a questionnaire while the data were prepared and analyzed using a statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS 22.0) for frequency counts and percentages. It was found that ICT resources were not adequately provided to the school administrators, and that the low usage of computers for their jobs was a result of lack of training in the use of computer and other ICT resources. It is concluded that the administrators of the studied schools in Ekiti South Senatorial District of Ekiti State, Nigeria have not really integrated ICT into their administrative jobs. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education, through the State government, should work with the federal government and policy makers to ensure that ICT resources are supplied to the school administrators. Finally, administrators will need to take part in more ICT training, workshops, and seminars to improve their comfort with ICT resources.

Book An Assessment of Secondary School Teachers Uses of ICT s

Download or read book An Assessment of Secondary School Teachers Uses of ICT s written by Adeyinka Tella and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of ICTs in Nigeria and African countries generally is increasing and dramatically growing. However, while there is a great deal of knowledge about how ICTs are being used in developed countries, there is not much information on how ICTs are being used by teachers in developing countries. This study examined Nigeria secondary school teachers' uses of ICTs and its implications for further development of ICTs use in Nigerian secondary schools. The study through census drawn on 700 teachers from twenty five purposefully selected private secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. This comprised 430 males and 270 females. Their age ranged from 25 - 45 years with a mean age of 35 years. A modified instrument tagged Teachers ICT use survey adapted from ICT survey indicator for teachers and staff by UNESCO (2004) and ICT Teachers Survey by New Zealand Ministry of Education MINEDU (1999) were used for the collection of data. The results showed that teachers generally have access to ICTs in their various schools except e-mail and Internet because their schools are not connected. Technical support are lacking in the schools and teachers lack of expertise in using ICT was indicated as being the prominent factors hindering teachers readiness and confidence of using ICTs during lesson. Furthermore, the results show that teachers perceived ICT as being easier and very useful in teaching and learning. For continuous uses of ICTs by teachers, it was recommended among others that teacher training and professional development oriented policies should support ICT-related teaching models that encourage both students and teachers to play an active role in teaching/learning activities. And that emphasis must be placed on the pedagogy behind the use of ICTs for teaching/learning. (Contains 8 tables and 1 figure.).

Book The Awareness Accessibility and Usability of

Download or read book The Awareness Accessibility and Usability of written by Oyeniyi Maryam Mojishola and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of computers and electronic resources has dominated human activities especially in the last two decades (Straker, 2001). Its use is complemented by a whole lot of other electronic devices, all of which are now collectively regarded as Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are information handling tools that are used to produce, store, and process, distribute and exchange information. These different tools are now able to work together and combine to form networked world-wide which reaches into every corner of the globe (UNDP Evaluation Office, 2001). It is an increasingly powerful tool for participating in global markets, promoting political accountability, improving the delivery of basic services and enhancing local development opportunities (UNDP, 2006). To Ogunsola (2005) ICT 'is an electronic based system of information transmission, reception, processing and retrieval, which has drastically changed the way we think, the way we live and the environment in which we live'. Information and communication technology has changed how people live, work or play (Berenfield, 1999).Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has not only witnessed a wide range of application in virtually all human endeavours, it has also actually transformed the world into a global village in such a manner that its contribution to human development over the years cannot be overemphasized. Despite the efforts, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) integration is still marked with apathy on the part of science teachers and students, possibly due to unawareness, inaccessible and lack of basic ICT skills in using the ICT resources available for effective academic activities in schools. This study therefore examined the awareness, accessibility and usability on internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning.
