Book Gospel Coach

    Book Details:
  • Author : Scott Thomas
  • Publisher : Zondervan
  • Release : 2012-05-08
  • ISBN : 0310494346
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book Gospel Coach written by Scott Thomas and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2012-05-08 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to help pastors and other Christian leaders to lovingly lead God’s flock to Jesus Christ and into God’s mission, Scott Thomas and Tom Wood clarify a process of coaching and shepherding that is rooted in the patterns of the Good Shepherd himself, a process in which leaders stir up the gifts, passion, and calling upon others’ lives. This book addresses the needs of the leader, his or her sinful tendencies, and church leadership issues. It directs the leader to the person and work of Jesus. It provides a system to intentionally shepherd leaders to glorify God in their personal, spiritual, and missional lives. Many ministry leaders serving in churches find themselves overwhelmed, disillusioned, and depressed by the enormous and challenging task of leading and ministering in a congregation. As a result, the ministry suffers, the leaders suffer, and the result is often an unhealthy church existent with little or no Gospel influence. These leaders need someone to shepherd their soul so that they can lead others to the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We suggest that coaching for the church leader looks less like corporate consulting or humanistic psychology and more like biblical-shepherding. We suggest that every church leader needs a Gospel Coach to come alongside with words of truth, wisdom and experience to encourage, admonish, comfort and help—words drawn from Scripture and godly wisdom, grounded in the gracious saving work of Jesus Christ, and presented in the context of a trusting relationship. Gospel Coaching is an intentional relationship to skillfully care for others with four ancient shepherding principles: 1) Know the sheep, 2) Feed the sheep, 3) Lead the sheep, and 4) Protect the sheep. A Gospel Coach both inquires about the personal, spiritual, and missional aspects of a ministry leader’s life in a loving yet focused manner, and also probes the church leader for compulsive unbelief or selfish motivation, or disobedience and sin, and leads the ministry leader back to the Gospel, through belief, repentance and obedience. Churches that desire to be rich in a Gospel application toward their city, their relationships with one another, their communication and worship, as well as their service, will benefit to a greater degree by having their leaders being coached by a Gospel-centered leader.

Book Assessing the Impact of Leadership Coaching on Elements of Ministry Identity for Effective Change in God s Purposes for Ministry

Download or read book Assessing the Impact of Leadership Coaching on Elements of Ministry Identity for Effective Change in God s Purposes for Ministry written by LaTresa Hiawatha Grantham and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to provide ministers with applicable guidance through principles of leadership coaching to gain awareness of God's will for the Church as it relates to their unique ministry identity. The problem that this project addressed was that there has not been an effective evaluation on the impact of leadership coaching on the self-concept of ministers in the local church. There are two questions that this project sought to answer. First, will a Leadership Coaching seminar provide an assessment of the elements of ministry identity? Second, will a gift assessment allow ministers to assess the impact of leadership coaching? Implemented over a four week period, coaching sessions were provided for ministers of God's Place of Purpose Church in Dallas, Texas. A questionnaire was distributed with an initial self-scoring gift assessment that provided an evaluation of the current, latent and active gift usage of each participant. During the final session of the leadership training, a final questionnaire assessed the ministers' perceived level of change in ministry effectiveness. The presenter compared the results of the initial questionnaire with the final questionnaire to assess the changes in gift effectiveness as indicated by participants. Finally, the facilitator compiled the results of the pre-evaluation and post-evaluation assessments scores to compare the change in gift usage experienced by participants."--Abstract.

We long to see the day in which every pastor has a coach and in turn is coaching someone else. In this book, you'll hear three coaches who have successfully coached pastors for many years. They will share their history, dreams, principles, and what God is doing through coaching. Download or read book The Art of Coaching Clergy written by Chris Holmes and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-03 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coaching clergy has become the fastest growing and most effective means to leadership effectiveness over the past ten years. It is now an organic movement within the Christian Church! The Art of Coaching Clergy is a generous gift to church leaders and the coaching movement from a foremost thought-leader in the field. The book illustrates a variety of ways coaching is applied to strengthen the work of clergy and laity, and describes various means of developing coaching systems and peer coaching networks. It takes a deep dive into the theology and biblical foundations for coaching, as well as offering helpful "how to" sections for hiring a coach, becoming a coach and living the life of a coach. Coaching differs from the long list of latest and greatest "quick fixes" to come along to save the church, in that it is not a formula, or a program, or a curriculum. It is a relationship of authenticity. Coaching is an affiliation that is highly personal, deeply intentional, and always contextual. It helps pastors and laity be the best leaders they can be for the sake of their congregations. Think of clergy coaching as the art of purposeful conversation applied to the archaeology of the soul. Whether you are clergy, lay, or a denominational leader, in these pages you will find a clear picture of the art of coaching with a spiritual context.

Book Coaching Based Ministry

Download or read book Coaching Based Ministry written by Mike McGervey and published by . This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional models of spiritual transformation and leader development depend on the ability of experts to impart their knowledge, experience, and advice to others. But what we have discovered is that receiving information and advice alone does not lead to transformation and growth. This happens only when a person becomes internally motivated to change. Coaching empowers people to change without telling them what to do. To be empowered means to take ownership of and responsibility for shaping your own future. This is based on the principle that the people you coach will understand, value, and apply for themselves what you help them to discover, not what you tell them. We are also convinced that as churches and faith-based organizations discover the power and possibilities of coaching, there will be a growing effort to rebuild ministries and develop leaders around what we call the Coaching-Based Ministry(TM) model. This book is built around helping you find answers to three key questions. - Why coaching? - What is it like to be coached? - What does it take to become an effective coach? It is our hope and prayer that you will find meaningful answers to those questions and will then join us in bringing Coaching-Based Ministry(TM) to the churches and faith-based organizations in your area. Mike McGervey & Tim Cosby

Download or read book The Changeover Zone written by Jim Ozier and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How clergy and congregations can navigate the tricky transition from one pastor to the next. The Changeover Zone addresses a critical and perennial need in the church: the process of handing the baton of pastoral leadership from one person to the next. Authors Jim Ozier and Jim Griffith offer practical, clear instructions and guidance for both clergy and congregations. They provide detailed sections especially for clergy who are taking over from a founding pastor and for those replacing long-tenured pastors. The book is packed with real-church examples, helpful tips and tactics that have been proven successful. This resource will expertly guide pastors, supervisors, and congregations in nearly any church setting or denomination. I just love this quote from the book: "How fast you run will keep you in the race; how well you hand off will win it". Over the next 10 years we will see one of the largest pastoral leadership transitions in our history. How well we handle this hand-off to the next generation may well determine our future. The Changeover Zone is timely, helpful and insightful as we approach these transitions in leadership. Every personnel committee, pastor, judicatory leader, district superintendent and bishop should read this book before approaching any major leadership changes. --Bob Farr, Director of Congregational Excellence, MO Conference, UMC; author, The Necessary Nine The Changeover Zone provides a roadmap for how to make healthy pastoral transitions, especially in churches making their first transition or first transition in a long time. This book will help you learn how to not only survive a church pastoral transition but how to thrive and gain momentum through the transition. We have utilized this roadmap in East Ohio and it works. I recommend this book to anyone involved with pastoral transitions at any level. --Kelly P. Brown, Director of Congregational Vitality, East Ohio Conference, UMC A great resource for pastors and churches who are going through transitions. I love how the change in a church pastor is seen not as an event, but as more of a process and from various key perspectives. This will be a valuable tool for my coaching with pastors and churches who are entering a season of transition. --Ken Willard, leadership coach, certified church consultant, and author, Time Management for the Christian Leader When our church learned that both long tenured pastors were leaving at the same, we knew we needed expert help. Jim Ozier led our leaders in a workshop based on The Changeover Zone to prepare us for this scary change. In this book the authors use sound biblical footing to show you what to do and how to do it, as you go through a pastoral change. --Cheryl Lee, SPPR Chairman, Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Suffolk, VA The action plan for the 100 days before and after a change of pastors (the Changeover Zone) is brimming with time-tested wisdom. Pastors, churches, and supervisors will be prepared to not only minimize the pain and confusion that comes with pastoral transitions, but actually maximize the potential for growth and new life in congregations. --Ken Irby, Shreveport District Superintendent, Louisiana Annual Conference, UMC This book is filled with insight and excellent counsel. I have been using the authors’ advice on making a great handoff for several years. You will nod your head as you read, and say, Of Course. Keep nodding. It will make a difference in raising up stronger leaders and building reproducible systems. And that’s what we all want. --Cathy Townley, Townley Coaching FINALLY! A simple, straightforward way to think about an essential part of ministry - transitions. Transitions can make or break a ministry and too often they happen without the purposeful thought that can make them successful. Whether your context is a new start pastor moving on or a long tenured pastor receiving a new appointment, this book will be your comprehensive guide in the process of ending well and starting strong.- Rev. Nicole Reilley, Director of New Ministries, Cal-Pac Conference
