This study explored the impact an after-school program had on academic performance in reading among low-income African American adolescent males. The researcher utilized the Star Renaissance Reading Assessment to observe a group of African American males' academic growth.The purpose was to also understand the benefits of the program through the perceptions of the after-school program staff and parent participants. The researcher utilized a survey tool from the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) to examine parents and staff members most knowledgeable about the students who participated in the program June 2018.
