Book excerpt: The Cost of a Deadbeat is a thought-provoking study that takes both a humorous and cynical approach to identifying and defining the major types of deadbeats, and the hidden monetary and emotional costs they bring to society. With over forty years of experience in the workplace, author Michael Webb applies his business knowledge and observation skills to illuminate what most of us unknowingly tolerate each day from the selfish and lazy in our culture. In each chapter, Webb provides personal examples of DNA (Deadbeat Negligent Activities) and categorizes the types of deadbeats, such as: Workplace deadbeats--slackers, sickies, tenure train riders, and slacking supervisors Criminal deadbeats--pilferers, prisoners, cyber slugs, scam artists, and petty thieves Daylight deadbeats--porky politicians, bumbling bureaucrats, and deadbeat voters Cheater deadbeats--fraud finders, tax evaders, and bankruptcy bums New generation deadbeats--poor parents and weak schools The Cost of a Deadbeat will encourage you to join the fight against deadbeats by examining your own behavior and contributing common sense and decency to your own life.

Download or read book Green Fraud written by Marc Morano and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you care about America's future, read this book."—Mark Levin "A must-read book that shows how the Green New Deal is dangerous, impractical, misguided, and guaranteed to fail with disastrous results for the American people.”—Sean Hannity A New Lockdown to "Save" the Climate That’s what’s in store for us if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Democrats pass their radical climate plan—the Green New Deal. It is packed with guarantees so completely irrelevant to the problem it purports to “solve” (like “free college” and incomes for everyone “unable or unwilling to work”) that even its boosters have admitted it’s not really about the climate. The intrepid Marc Morano, author of the bestselling Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change, breaks down the science and the politics to expose the truth about the Green New Deal: • The science is settled: copious evidence—and prominent defections from the “climate consensus”—make clear we are not facing a man-made climate disaster • “Climate change” is the perfect Trojan horse for the socialist agenda of the Left • Fossil fuels lifted the West out of poverty—but our elites now want to deny them to the world’s poor • The Green New Deal is on a collision course with self-government and our fundamental rights Climate change has already been “solved” multiple times over the past two decades—with highly touted international agreements—and yet it never goes away as an excuse for leftist policies that will cripple our economy, impoverish the world, and take away our freedoms. Packed with telling statistics, damning quotations, and real science, Green Fraud is your source for all the facts you need to understand—and resist—the threat.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “One of the most useful books I’ve read about mental illnesses . . . It demystifies our complicated medical and legal system.” —Pete Earley, New York Times-bestselling author of Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness Finally, a book that explains everything you ever wanted to know about psychiatry! In Shrink Rap, three psychiatrists from different specialties provide frank answers to questions such as: • What is psychotherapy, how does it work, and why don’t all psychiatrists do it? • When are medications helpful? • What happens on a psychiatric unit? • Can Prozac make people suicidal? • Why do many doctors not like Xanax? • Why do we have an insanity defense? • Why do people confess to crimes they didn’t commit? Based on the authors’ hugely popular blog and podcast series, this book is for patients and everyone else who is curious about how psychiatrists work. Using compelling patient vignettes, Shrink Rap explains how psychiatrists think about and address the problems they encounter, from the mundane (how much to charge) to the controversial (involuntary hospitalization). The authors face the field’s shortcomings head-on, revealing what other doctors may not admit about practicing psychiatry. Candid and humorous, Shrink Rap gives a closeup view of psychiatry, peering into technology, treatments, and the business of the field. If you’ve ever wondered how psychiatry really works, let the Shrink Rappers explain. “A fascinating peek into the minds of those who study minds.” —The Washington Post “Most of us easily understand how to treat a broken arm, but a fractured psyche? That’s an entirely different matter. Or is it? This clear-headed presentation of psychiatric services and methods covers a lot of ground and achieves a conversational tone that’s both educational and entertaining.” —Baltimore Magazine

Download or read book Economy Ecology Towards Sustainable Development written by F. Archibugi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a period of relative silence, recent years have been marked by an upswing of interest in environmental issues. The publication of the report of the World Commission on Environment and Development on 'Our Common Future' (1987) has acted as a catalyst for a revival of the environmental awareness, not only regarding local and daily pollution problems, but also -and in particular- regarding global environmental decay and threats to a sustainable development. In a recent study by W.M. Stigliani et al., on 'Future Environments for Europe' (Executive Rep~rt 15, IIASA, Laxenburg, 1989) the environmental implications of various alternative socioeconomic development pathways with respect to eleven environmental issues that could become major problems in the future are analysed. These issues include: Managing water resources in an era of climate change. Acidification of soils and lakes in Europe. Long-term forestry management and the possibility of a future shortfall in wood supply. Areas of Europe marginalized by mainstream economic and agricultural development. Sea level rise. Chemical pollution of coastal waters. Toxic materials buildup and the potential for chemical time bombs. Non-point-source emissions of potentially toxic substances. Transportation growth versus air quality. Decreasing multi-functionally of land owing to urban and suburban land development. Increasing summer demand for electricity, and the impact on air quality.

Download or read book Disease Eradication in the 21st Century written by Stephen L. Cochi and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experts explore the biological, social, and economic complexities of eradicating disease. Disease eradication represents the ultimate in global equity and the definitive outcome of good public health practice. Thirty years ago, the elimination of smallpox defined disease eradication as a monumental global achievement with lasting benefits for society. Today, the global commitment to eradicate polio and guinea worm and heightened interest in the potential eradication of other infectious diseases, including measles/rubella, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, and malaria, dominate public health concerns. But what does it take to eradicate a disease? This book takes a fresh look at the evolving concepts of disease eradication, influenced by scientific advances, field experience, societal issues, and economic realities. A diverse group of experts from around the world, representing a range of disciplines, examines the biological, social, political, and economic complexities of eradicating a disease. The book details lessons learned from the initiatives against polio, measles/rubella, and onchocerciasis. Further chapters examine ethical issues, the investment case, governance models, organizational and institutional arrangements, political and social factors, feasibility of eradication goals, priority setting, and the integration of disease eradication programs with existing health systems.
